   here were many postings telling that the LaserJet 1010 and 1012
   (perhaps also 1015) sometimes gave the error message "Unsupported
   Personality" in the middle of a job and then crashed, so that it
   needed to be power-cycled. There is a possible solution for the
   problem.

   Robert Krawitz, the leader of the Gimp-Print project has the 1012
   an he never had a problem with "Unsupported Personality". The
   driver he uses is Gimp-Print 4.2.7 and also 5.0.x.

Actually, I've used various late 4.3 and 5.0 alpha/beta versions, but
I expect 4.2.7 would do the same thing.

   The trick is most probably that Gimp-Print uses pure raster PCL and
   HPIJS or the "ljet4" uses some "normal" PCL which the printer does
   not like.

I can state that Gimp-Print uses only raster, as it's a pure raster
driver for all printers.  I can't speak for what the other drivers are
doing; that was purely a WAG on my part.
