   The compile failed for this build when using the following configure
   options:

   ./configure --with-cups --without-foomatic --with-ghostscript
   --disable-nls --without-gimp  --disable-cups-ppds

   It failed at the point where cups-genppd is run, complaining about no
   printer definitions being found and showed a message to report this bug.

Can you try using --disable-shared?

   I am running Slackware 7.0.0 with the 2.2.13 kernel.
   My version of gcc is egcs-2.91.66.

This compiler is quite old.  Also, what version of binutils are you
using?
