1) Does changing the 'default' line in /etc/inittab cause you to boot into a different runlevel? I tried changing it from 3 to 5 but still booted to a console.

2) Does something overwrite kdmrc (the KDM config file) with a list of known sessions? I like to edit the session list and then insert my own Xsession file. If kdmrc is being automatically modified, how can I stop that?
