Works for me. Only things I can think of to check are that you've got 
the double arrow redirect, not a single (if you've got more than one line
of output in fetchurls then you do), and also that you didn't already have
the main xmms tarball in /usr/portage/distfiles from the last time you
emerged it - emerge will not necessarily download eberything the ebuild
asks for, just the ones it doesn't already have.

That's because it's trying to download stuff and it isn't actually doing
it. It might be nice if someone worked someting like this into portage
with a bit more polish, but it works (I think) and the errors are just
cosmetic.
