packages are released on a rigorous "whenever the developers get around 
to it" basis. if you have a request, please submit a bugreport at gentoo 
bugzilla. developers are sometimes unaware that new versions of a 
package have been released, so a bug would alert them to that fact.

to that end, i've submitted a bug, and an ebuild, for developers to add 
to portage. take a look here:
