BUG#48973 is related as it is the same problem. I have posted a
description of the problem there.

For kernel maintainers: I suggest that a description of how patches
where created should be mandatory and included in the patch-packages.

All I know about the patches are the names:
00_gs-sources-2.4.25
01_device_mapper

It would be even better if external patches where kept intact. Like:
01_gs-sources-2.4.25-devmapper
02_linux-2.4.26-rc1-devmapper-ioctl.patch

where 01 just makes sure that 02 applies correctly.
