Subject: [gentoo-dev] WANT_AUTOCONF= and WANT_AUTOMAKE= in ebuilds

(Crossposting to -core and -dev to make sure everyone sees this; this is
fairly important.)

A lot of ebuilds are using the new WANT_AUTO{CONF,MAKE}= syntax to
select a desired version of autoconf (as opposed to the deprecated
WANT_AUTO{CONF,MAKE}_1_?=1 syntax). For autoconf, these ebuilds must
have a DEPEND for >=sys-devel/autoconf-2.58. For automake, they must
have a DEPEND for >=sys-devel/automake-1.7.2. Older versions do not
support the old-style syntax, and since 1.4 stage3s have older versions,
merging these packages after a new install without a full update will
cause them to fail.

Daniel has been making an effort to fix offending ebuilds with this
problem, but everyone really needs to check over their ebuilds. This is
very widespread.

Thanks.
