/usr/portage/sys-devel/gcc/gcc-3.1.1-r1.ebuild is the release version.

But I think most people (especially with pentium4 and athlon-xp) will
want to wait for 3.2 ... optimization code of 3.2 cvs versions already
more stable than that of 3.1.x it seems (this side at least).

I think thus the trend will be to rather get ready for 3.2.
