This is a case where you should have looked at whats in portage before
you ask, Nautilus (2) as you put it is part of the Gnome2 tree, and thus
actually is included in portage. you just need to unmask it and use it
:)

Its current version is something around 1.1.18  

Also included goodies are  eog gedit gthumb gnumeric (1.1.5) gftp ggv
pan gimp xchat mrproject and glade .. this is not counting the core
gnome2

please, those of you who have the time, Find the missing Gnome2 "ready"
stuff and prepare a package, we can then complete this collection :) 

Some general notes about Nautilus for Gnome2 : 
*   Its fast. far faster than Gnome1
*   It does not include a kitchensink, nor does it require mozilla
*   if you want it to browse the web for you, you have to explicitly
   tell it to use nautilus-gtkhtml 
*   it can use FAM for speedups:   rc-update add fam default 
*   you can tell it not to take over your desktop. (Nautilus settings )
