Gnome Desktop's clock applet has a default setting that causes it to
synchronize the time with a time server.  If you use NTP, then its
possible both are competing to set the systems time.  

In a perfect world, this would not be an issue, for everyone's clock
servers would be matched.  But if this was a perfect world, we wouldn't
need to synchronize clocks, would we.

I'm under the opinion that NTP is more accurate and that the clock
applet (by defaulting to ONE clock server) has the potential to skew my
clocks wrong.

I'm using Clock 2.8.0.1
