thanks for the response

yes, I did try the 2.4 kernel also, but that seemed to go to a
lesser degree. the kernel starts to load, the screen blanks and
then its back to SRM console. I use 

"boot dka600 -flags 1" since that seems to be the CD here

the last messages on the screen are shown below

the "uboot:" line seemed a little puzzling though (should be aboot: ?)

thank you for your message too, I haven't yet tried an older
release kernel, but I will and post the results
