Yes, so what ?

As far as OpenBSD is concerned, we made a conscious decision to build
libiberty as a shared library, and we will deal with binary compatibility
issues. Namely, it is no big deal to bump the version number each time an
incompatible change occurs.

(I'll leave other bsd to speak for themselves)
