Attempts to build 3.4.0 or the first 3.4.1 prerelease fail on AIX 4.3.3,
during the build of strstream in libstdc++.  See

for more details.  AIX's assembler apparently can't cope with forward
references for thunks.  Apparently AIX 5.x is not affected.
