This is a bug in the Solaris /bin/sh, documented in the GCC installation
instructions.  The proposed patch is not only non-portable (not all shells
support unset), but also just papers over the bug.  It might very well hide the
problem in your particular version of Solaris' /bin/sh, but the problem may
remain in other patch levels of /bin/sh, as well as /bin/sh binaries for other
versions of Solaris.  Please file a bug report to Sun instead, so that they fix
their shell.
