Sure. I wasn't trying to tell where to split it, just that you can get the
repository root on  only the repository path (which is in the middle).

The fact that you can't automagically tell where to split BASE from DIR is
why I made it -pN:/path (like patch) instead of -p/path; you have to tell
it how much is prefix and how much is common. Since N is basically always 1
or 2 in common repository layouts, I don't think this is particularly
onerous in practice.
