Try stopping and starting the GUI.

/usr/local/etc/mgmt/rc/S300gui stop

(wait a minute or so)
Make sure the GUI is dead. (ps auxw |grep -i gui) or (ps -ef |grep -i gui)

/usr/local/etc/mgmt/rc/S300gui start

Get used to this - you'll have to do it fairly often. Also make sure your
authsrv is turned on in gauntlet-admin and the process is running (it's
called authsrv.)
