Subject:    [FVWM95] Cannot allocate colormap entry

I am having a xfree_svga ver 3.3.1 installed with a matrox mystique 
bios ver 1.50. Under fvwm95 I intermittenly get the following
error messages when runing certain applications.

emacs :
Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "DarkSlateGray"
Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "Orchid"

netscape 3.01 :
Cannot allocate colormap entry for default background

mplot (application program):
Xplot11.gwxallocrgbcolor: can't allocate color.

Anyone knows how to cure the problem, please help....

Also strangely I can't run the Xserver at more than 256 colour 
(8 bits). Thanks.
