  Tue, Dec 16th 2008 07:03

About: Bluewhite64 Linux is an unofficial port of Slackware Linux to the
AMD-64/EM64T architectures. It runs on 64-bit single or multicore AMD64
Sempron, Athlon, Opteron, Phenom, and Intel EM64T (Intel Extended Memory 64
Technology) based servers and computers. The goal of this port is to mimic
the user experience of the Intel x86 distribution at its best. This port
includes the same software and configuration scripts found in the
slackware-current tree.

Changes: Many packages were upgraded. It is now possible to install from a
Samba share. New packages like pm-utils (power management utilities),
sqlite 3.6.6.2 (a simple, self contained database engine), and wicd (a
wired and wireless network manager) were included. Some of the updated
packages include KDE 3.5.10 and xfce 4.4.3 Desktop Environments, Mozilla
Firefox 3.0.4 and Seamonkey 1.1.13 Web browsers, and Mozilla Thunderbird
2.0.0.18 and KMail 1.9.9 email clients.

About: Cromfs is a compressed read-only filesystem for Linux. Cromfs is
best at archiving gigabytes of big files that have a lot of redundancy. It
aims primarily at achieving a strong compression, even at the cost of
memory and CPU time resources. It uses the LZMA compression algorithm from
7-zip and block merging.

Changes: This release adds OpenMP-using parallelization to various
operations in mkcromfs, causing a speedup of at least 30% on multi-core
platforms. The effectiveness of the automatic index was also improved. A
bug that caused a potential crash to occur when a certain combination of
command-line options was used in mkcromfs was also fixed.

  by DaveFX (http://freshmeat.net/users/davefx/)
  Tue, Dec 16th 2008 11:51

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Systems Administration

About: gnoMint is a tool for easily creating and managing certification
authorities. It provides fancy visualization of all the pieces of
information that pertain to a CA, such as x509 certificates, CSRs, and
CRLs. gnoMint is currently capable of managing a CA that emits certificates
that are able to authenticate people or machines in VPNs (IPSec or other
protocols), secure HTTP communications with SSL/TLS, authenticate and
cipher HTTP communications through Web-client certificates, and sign or
crypt email messages.

Changes: This version adds a full brand-new command-line interface:
gnomint-cli. This interface allows any action over a gnoMint database,
getting its orders through standard input. gnoMint is now fully scriptable.
For example, you could create a cron task for generating CRLs at scheduled

  Tue, Dec 16th 2008 19:04

Communications :: Telephony
Office/Business
Security

About: GNU SIP Witch is a pure SIP-based office telephone call server that
supports generic phone system features like call forwarding, hunt groups
and call distribution, call coverage and ring groups, holding, and call
transfer, as well as offering SIP specific capabilities such as presence
and messaging. It supports secure telephone extensions for making calls
over the Internet, and intercept/decrypt-free peer-to-peer audio and video
extensions. It is not a SIP proxy, a multi-protocol telephone server, or an
IP-PBX, and does not try to emulate Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, or Yate.

Changes: This release has a new "forward" plugin to forward registration
when sipwitch is used to manage a secure VoIP realm in conjunction with an
insecure IP PBX. It also provides destination dialing to IP PBX-managed
"insecure" destinations from secure VoIP user agents. This makes it very
easy for any organization to set up and deploy secure user agents in
conjunction with already existing (insecure) VoIP infrastructure.

About: Google Gadgets for Linux provides a platform for running Google
Gadgets under Linux, catering to the unique needs of Linux users. It's
compatible with the gadgets written for Google Desktop for Windows as well
as the Universal Gadgets on iGoogle. There are two main components to the
application: one is a common gadget library responsible for running and
