  Thu, May 24th 2007 10:19

Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: BalanceNG is a modern software IP load balancing solution. It is
small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session persistence,
different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Weighted Random,
Least Session, Least Bandwidth, Hash, Agent, and Randomized Agent) and a
customizable UDP health check agent in source code. It supports VRRP to
set up high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It supports
SNMP, integrating the BALANCENG-MIB with Net-SNMPD. It integrates pcap
packet dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge".

Changes: The commands "bng -I" and "bng -N" were added (displaying
instance information and nodeid). A new command line option "bng purge"
has been added. Preceding the special token "!" to a command suppresses
the output of an interactive prompt afterwards. The new file
/etc/bng.global is pre-evaluated by all instances (allowing global
settings and global licensing). All inherited and unneeded file
descriptors are now closed on startup. The manual has been updated to
release 1.870.0.

About: The Heirloom Documentation Tools provide troff, nroff, and related
utilities to format manual pages and other documents for output on
terminals and printers. They are portable and enhanced versions of the

loop if ".ns" was still active at the last ".bp" of a document. The
generated PostScript code was fixed for included images which discarded
previous changes to the graphics state on the same page. A problem with
".in" at the beginning of a document with paragraph-at-once line breaking
was fixed along with issues concerning ff, ffi, and ffl ligatures with
Type 1 "expert" fonts.

About: Seed7 is a general purpose programming language. It is a higher
level language compared to Ada, C++, and Java. In Seed7, new statements
and operators can be declared easily. Functions with type results and type
parameters are more elegant than a template or generics concept. Object
orientation is used when it brings advantages and not in places when other
solutions are more obvious. Although Seed7 contains several concepts of
other programming languages, it is generally not considered as a direct
descendant of any other programming language.

Changes: The file version.h was removed to force the creation of it with
the "make depend" command. The read_me was changed such that "rm
version.h" is not necessary to compile. Several constant types were
defined in data_rtl.h. The files str_rtl.c, str_rtl.h, set_rtl.c, and
set_rtl.h were changed to use constant types. A bug with compare functions
for array sorts and hash tables was fixed. The makefile mk_linux.mak was
added as copy of 'makefile'. The makefile mk_msvc.mak was added to allow

and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In
this respect, U++ competes with popular scripting languages while
preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.

  Thu, May 24th 2007 13:32

System

About: Untie is a small tool used to create namespaces and lauch processes
in them. It uses Linux's virtualization features. It allows the user to
call clone(2) with any flag as a parameter. Note that superuser privileges
are needed to create namespaces.

Changes: The possibility of running a program as a daemon, the setting of
an alarm timer, the nice level setting, and changing the scheduling policy
as well as its priority were added.

[055] - ustr 0.99.1
  by Nevyn (http://freshmeat.net/users/nevyn/)
  Thu, May 24th 2007 01:26

Software Development :: Libraries

About: ustr (Micro string library) is a string API for C. It has tiny
overhead over just plain strdup(), is much safer, is easier to use, is
faster for many operations, can be used with read-only or automatically
allocated data. You don't even need to link to the library to use it (so
there are no dependencies).

Changes: While ustr is still officially in beta, that is mainly due to
lack of documentation (it has roughly 80% testing coverage).

[057] - Veusz 0.99.0 (Development)
  by Jeremy Sanders (http://freshmeat.net/users/xiox/)
  Thu, May 24th 2007 02:51

Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: Veusz is a scientific plotting package, designed to create
publication-ready Postscript output. It features GUI, command-line, and
scripting interfaces. Graphs are constructed from "widgets", allowing
complex layouts to be  designed.

Changes: The application was largely rewritten and is now based on
Qt4/PyQt4 and Numpy rather than Qt3 and numarray. Linux and Windows
binaries are available. It now features a much improved user interface
with separate formatting and properties and a better import dialog. It can
export PDF and PNG files natively. Other improvements include anti-aliasing
on screen, INF/NaN support, color bars, and different sized subgraphs in a
grid.

[059] - WidgetServer 1.5.0
  by Dirk von der Weiden (http://freshmeat.net/users/dvdw/)
  Thu, May 24th 2007 07:06

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: WidgetServer is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables
an application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server
Swing app, or as a Web app without any change and without loss of
functionality. A rich widget set is supported that includes tree views,
tabbed panes, split panels, and much more. A unified widget-based,
object-oriented programming interface for Web and Swing GUIs is offered to
the developer to control and assemble the GUI. Web applications are fully
AJAX enabled. For Swing client/server applications, the framework handles
client/server communication, including compression and security layers. A
GUI builder is included.

Changes: This release introduces a new "anchored popup" component. The
RCLICK event was added to trigger popups. An enhanced table header
renderer (sort, search, sort and search) has been implemented. A new,
smarter tabbed-pane renderer for HTML/Web applications is included. A new
attribute "wrap" for links, labels, checkboxes, and radiobuttons is
available now. All new features are included in the
HelloWorld-ComponentSet demo.

[060] - x11vnc 0.9.1
  by Karl Runge (http://freshmeat.net/users/runge/)
  Thu, May 24th 2007 10:53

Communications :: Conferencing
Desktop Environment :: Tools
System :: Monitoring

About: x11vnc is a program that allows one to remotely view and interact
with real X displays (i.e. a display corresponding to a physical
monitor, keyboard, and mouse) with any VNC viewer. It is similar to
WinVNC and is designed to be compatible with all Unix variants and
depend on a very small set of standard libraries. It supports a growing
number of command line options, such as -nofb for dual- headed mode with
Win2VNC. It is part of the LibVNCServer project.

Changes: The UltraVNC Java Viewer has been modified to support SSL
encrypted connections. Additional bugfixes and improvements were also
made. A compiled jar file and patches are provided. A Unix username
identification method is available when SSL client certificates are used
to authenticate VNC viewers: the username is retrieved from the
certificate. As in the "-unixpw" mode, the Unix username information aids
per-user X session detection and creation (e.g. in "-svc" mode). The SSL
client certificate is also available via the environment to custom login
programs run by x11vnc.
