Desktop Environment
System :: Monitoring

About: battery_monitor is a small battery monitoring program for Linux
that you can run in the background from your desktop session or launch
from the boot scripts. It is designed with simple goals in mind, and
provides acoustic and/or visual alerts when your battery level is low or
when it is fully charged, so you can take appropriate actions.

Changes: Several bugs have been corrected. They surfaced with recent
releases of the Xorg X server, and made the program behave incorrectly
when displaying signs. The underlying sign code has been rewritten, and
the program is now lighter on resources as a collateral effect. In
addition, CMake support has been added to the build system.

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: CrissCross is a small cross-platform C++ library for threading,
console and file I/O, CPU identification (CPUID), and sockets (TCP and
UDP). The main goal is to provide the ability to write a program using
identical calls on the major platforms (Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD,
NetBSD, and Mac OS X) without needing to rewrite code. CPUID is only
currently supported on Linux and Windows running on x86 processors. There
is also theoretical support for IA-64 and x64 processors in 64-bit mode,
but only 32-bit mode has been tested.

Changes: The CrissCross test suite was added, which tests a majority of
the features. QuickSort and CombSort were added. A Visual C++ 2003 project
was added. An XCode project was added. New CoreIOReader ReadLine was added.
Flush was added in CoreIOWriter::Write, since some platforms wouldn't
display written data until a newline. Winsock 2.2 is now used in Windows
builds. Various UDPSocket functions no longer return false errors.
CrissCross::Data::Compare is now a template function. A dangerous flaw in
the Stopwatch class causing a crash and a bad compile was corrected.

About: LibreSource is a versatile collaborative platform. It is adapted to
the collaborative software development, groupware, community leading,
e-archiving and Web publishing. On a single server, LibreSource can host
several projects, several groups of users, and grant fine-grained access
to the resources. Based on Java/J2EE technology, it is a modular Web
server that users can customize online by combining resources and rights:
wiki pages, forum, trackers, synchronizer, subversion, files, download
areas, a dropbox, forms, etc.

Changes: Integration of the Jabber instant messaging (Tigase server and
Jeti client). LDAP group resource (map groups of users from LDAP groups).
Dropbox resource (upload files to a confidential area). Form resource
(create an electronic form online). Smart security rights behaviour. RSS
feeds on most of the resources, public or private. Files included into a
download area are easier to sort and to comment. Forums show the thread
content inside the response page. A best children macro has been added.
Several bugs have been fixed. Performance improvements. A smaller memory
footprint. Better packaging.

About: NoBug is a library which provides assertions, logging statements,
and annotations for C and C++ programs. It includes pre-/post-condition
and invariant checks, as well as generic assertions. Checks are enabled
based on build-levels and scope tags. It also includes debugger support
(valgrind), dumping of data structures, logging your application's
activities, runtime customizable logging via environment variables,
different logging targets (ringbuffer, stderr, syslog, debugger, etc.),
and annotation of your source code regarding known bugs, things to do, and
planned things.

Changes: The source code location handling (file/line/function) was
improved and centralized. Logging flags in C++ applications can be
initialized and parsed with a simple initializer. The Resource Registry
was stabilized and rewritten and given a new interface. Resources can be
acquired in three states now. Multithreading support for the Resource

on the Internet. This tunneling allows VPN sites to share information with
each other over the Internet without exposing any information.

Changes: This release fixes some memory and resource leaks, and makes
network sockets non-blocking under Windows.

the date format problem seen at locations with a negative offset from GMT.
There are several minor improvements to the Subversion Branch Browser.
There is a new command-line option to start TkCVS with the Annotation
Browser. A contrib directory has been added, containing useful adjunct
programs.

Software Development
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Debuggers

About: Ultimate++ is a cross-platform C++ rapid application development
suite. It includes set of libraries (for things like GUI and SQL) and an
integrated development environment. Rapid development is achieved by smart
and aggressive use of C++ rather than through fancy code generators. In
this respect, U++ competes with popular scripting languages while
preserving C/C++ runtime characteristics. Its integrated development
environment, TheIDE, introduces modular conception to C++ programming, and
can be used to develop non-U++ applications.

[064] - WordPress 2.2 (Release)
  by Dougal Campbell (http://freshmeat.net/users/emc3/)
  Wed, May 16th 2007 11:05

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: News/Diary
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: WordPress is a state-of-the-art, semantic, personal publishing
platform with a focus on aesthetics, Web standards, and usability. It was
born out of a desire for an elegant, well-architectured personal
publishing system, and is the official successor to b2/cafelog. While
primarily geared towards functioning as a Weblog, it is also a flexible
CMS capable of managing many types of Web sites. In addition to the basic
Weblog functions, it also has an integrated link manager (e.g. for
blogrolls), XFN support, support for "static" pages, Atom and RSS feeds
for both content and comments, XML-RPC blogging API support (Blogger,
MetaWeblog, and Movable Type APIs), spam blocking features, advanced
cruft-free URL generation, a flexible theme system, and an advanced plugin
API.

Changes: New features in this release include support for Sidebar Widgets
in core, Atom 1.0 support, preliminary Atom Publishing Protocol support,
comment feeds in formats other than RSS 2.0, protection against activating
broken plugins, improved comment management, JQuery, internal code
optimizations and speedups, a WordPress-specific XML-RPC API, and many
other changes and bugfixes.

[065] - XINS 2.0-beta2 (Development)
  by Anthony Goubard (http://freshmeat.net/users/agoubard/)
  Wed, May 16th 2007 07:08

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.

Changes: Various bugs in the JSON calling convention have been fixes. A
new example using the Ajax DOJO toolkit has been added. Most of the
deprecated classes have been removed.

[066] - zisofs-tools 1.0.8 (Stable)
  by H. Peter Anvin (http://freshmeat.net/users/hpa/)
  Wed, May 16th 2007 23:44

System :: Filesystems

About: The zisofs filesystem is an extension to the ISO9660 filesystem
that allows files, on a file-by-file basis, to be stored compressed and
decompressed in real time. The zisofs filesystem is supported by recent
versions of Linux (2.4.14 or later). Legacy systems can still read
uncompressed files. zisofs-tools contains the tools necessary to create
such a compressed ISO9660 filesystem and to read compressed files on a
legacy system.

Changes: This release fixes the --sloppy option, which was documented but
did not work.
