[002] - Adaptive Quality of Service Architecture 0.5.1 (Qosres)
  by cucinotta (http://freshmeat.net/users/cucinotta/)
  Fri, May 4th 2007 19:05

Multimedia
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: AQuoSA is an open architecture for the provisioning of adaptive
Quality of Service functionality into the Linux kernel. The project
features a flexible, portable, and lightweight software architecture for
supporting QoS-related services on top of a general-purpose operating
system as Linux. The architecture is well founded on formal scheduling
analysis and control theoretical results. At the core of the software is
an adaptive Resource Reservation layer that is capable of dynamically
adapting the CPU allocation for QoS-aware applications based on their
run-time requirements.

Changes: Issues related to the removal of the qresmod kernel module while
servers were running have been solved. Also, a possible issue with
versions of GCC lower than 4.1 has been avoided by providing a default
configuration file that disables certain debugging capabilities making use
of the __builtin_apply() and related GCC extensions.

  by Daniel R. Somerfield (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielsomerfield/)
  Fri, May 4th 2007 11:16

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries

About: AJAX Tree Control is a modified version of SilverStripe's tree
control. It adds dynamic loading of child nodes via AJAX. The default
implementation uses the prototype library to make dynamic requests, but
this behavior can be overridden by setting functions on the global Tree
object. There are a few demo Ruby on Rails applications included in the
distribution that show how to use and customize the tree.

[007] - auto-nng 1.3
  by Jan Behrens (http://freshmeat.net/users/jbehrens/)
  Fri, May 4th 2007 10:59

Scientific/Engineering

About: auto-nng is a program for analysis and classification of data,
using artificial neuronal networks. You can feed a number of datasets
consisting of certain input and output parameters into the program to make
it try to find a mathematical correlation between the input and output
parameters. Afterwards, the program tries to calculate the output
parameters for datasets which only have known input parameters.

Changes: The transformation function for continuous input and output
values has been changed to cause a smaller error during defuzzyfication.

About: Brutus is an Exchange connector and development framework that
offers access to all of MAPI and therefore to all versions of Microsoft
Exchange from version 5.5 onwards. It is a complete wrapping of all of
MAPI into a (large) set of CORBA interfaces. It enables any groupware
client to integrate seamlessly into any organization with large Exchange
deployments on an equal footing with MS Outlook. Being based on CORBA, it
is platform independent, and works equally well on Linux, the BSDs,
Windows, or wherever there is a CORBA implementation available.

Changes: Logging of failure cases was generally improved. SSLIOP support
has been removed. SSLIOP is no longer needed as Lorica will add CORBA
firewall support as well as an SSLIOP tunnel between Brutus Server and any
client application. MAPI object property scrambling was added. This is a
new feature that makes it possible for an administrator to content
scramble specific users.

[030] - Haskell Database Connectivity 1.1.1
  by John Goerzen (http://freshmeat.net/users/jgoerzen/)
  Fri, May 4th 2007 02:00

Database :: API
Software Development :: Libraries

About: HDBC provides an abstraction layer between Haskell programs and SQL
relational databases. This lets you write database code once, in Haskell,
and have it work with any number of backend SQL databases (MySQL, Oracle,
PostgreSQL, ODBC-compliant databases, etc.) HDBC is modeled loosely on
Perl's DBI interface, though it has also been influenced by Python's
DB-API v2, JDBC in Java, and HSQL in Haskell.

Changes: Major new API changes were made that permit local database
extensions. Support for non-typeclass wrapping of database objects was
added.

[031] - high-resolution-timer 1.0
  by Madhur Tanwani (http://freshmeat.net/users/madhurtanwani/)
  Fri, May 4th 2007 11:15

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Testing

About: high-resolution-timer is a library with Java and C++ wrappers to
implement high resolution timers. These timers can be used, for example,
to count the ticks when doing performance analysis. This library exploits
the system dependent timers/clocks and provides a timer-like interface to
the same. The attached file has build scripts for Linux and Solaris. There
is also a Java wrapper over the library, which uses JNI to use the timer
interfaces.

Changes: The library is a basic approach to design a base for the
performance library. It has not yet taken into consideration the details
of library preloads, etc. At load time, the library initializes itself
with the timer with the least avg resolution. At unload time, the library
cleans up by freeing any allocated memory.	The library provides a
getErrorMessage function to let the user know the detailed report of the
error. The library exports start / stop JNI wrappers .

[033] - Himerge 0.13
  by Luis Araujo (http://freshmeat.net/users/LuisAraujo/)
  Fri, May 4th 2007 16:01

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: Himerge is a GUI for emerge (Gentoo's Portage system) written in
Haskell using gtk2hs. The main idea is to simplify browsing the entire
portage tree, and allow running the most basic and common options from the
emerge command. It also offers several handy tools, like global and local
use flags browsers, inspired by UFED (the Gentoo Linux USE flags editor).
It also uses eix (a small utility for searching ebuilds with indexing for
fast results) as a back-end command to show package information in
HTML/CSS format, so you can access a package's Web site for a quick
glance.

Changes: Many new features have been added (most of them recently): a new
resizable panel, so you can get a complete view of any operation; a Web
view to access the Web site of a specific package; an improved use flag
and package branch browser; better error handling for several operations;
a different and more flexible layout; some extra operations like
dependencies rebuild; and more.

System :: Systems Administration

About: Virtualmin is a Webmin module that simplifies the process of
setting up and managing virtual servers. It can create Apache virtual
hosts, BIND DNS domains, MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, and set up
Sendmail or Postfix to accept email for a domain. It can also manage
mailboxes and mail aliases within a domain.

Changes: The stats Web directory is now password-protected by default. The
HTML for disabled Web sites can be edited in the template. The number of
days to keep old bandwidth data can now be configured. The
list-features.pl command-line script was added. Module Config options were
added for external quota commands. When editing server templates, fields
that are not used are now greyed out. A link for copying the default
settings template was added. The old one-file-per-directory backup format
is no longer available.

[063] - xine xine-ui 0.99.5
  by Hans-Dieter Kosch (http://freshmeat.net/users/fsckp/)

Multimedia :: Video :: Display

About: xine is a free multimedia player. It plays back CDs, DVDs, and
VCDs. It also decodes multimedia files like AVI, MOV, WMV, and MP3 from
local disk drives, and displays multimedia streamed over the Internet. It
interprets many of the most common multimedia formats available--and some
of the most uncommon formats, too. All those features come in a reusable
library (xine-lib) which can easily be embedded in your applications.

Changes: Security issues with playlists were fixed, so upgrading is
recommended. Fixes were made for crashes, memory leaks, and bugs.
Functional enhancements and features were added. The appearance of
non-skinned windows has been harmonized (with more space for text). The
translations were updated.
