[006] - auto-nng 1.2
  by Jan Behrens (http://freshmeat.net/users/jbehrens/)
  Tue, May 1st 2007 09:49

Scientific/Engineering

About: auto-nng is a program for analysis and classification of data,
using artificial neuronal networks. You can feed a number of datasets
consisting of certain input and output parameters into the program to make
it try to find a mathematical correlation between the input and output
parameters. Afterwards, the program tries to calculate the output
parameters for datasets which only have known input parameters.

Changes: The transformation function for continuous input and output
values is now continuously differentiable.

[007] - Blitz templates 0.4.15
  by Alexey Rybak (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexeyrybak/)
  Tue, May 1st 2007 04:02

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Blitz templates is a fast template engine written in C and compiled
as a PHP module. It started as a php_templates replacement, but developed
into much more. It is based on extensible template controllers (custom
view classes in PHP) and weakly-active templates (simple logic in HTML).
Benchmarks show that it is one of the fastest template engines for PHP,
even though it's not trivial and makes Web application closer to the MVC2
architecture model. It was designed for big Internet projects with a lot
of complex presentation logic.

Changes: A segfault that occurred when undefined variables were used in
the output wrapper was fixed. Minor changes were made in the tests and
examples.

[015] - ExactImage 0.3.6
  by René Rebe (http://freshmeat.net/users/ReneRebe/)
  Tue, May 1st 2007 13:18

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: ExactImage is a fast C++ image processing library. Unlike
ImageMagick, it allows operation in several color spaces and bit depths
natively, resulting in much lower memory and computational requirements.
Some optimized algorithms operate in 1/20 of the time ImageMagick
requires, and displaying large images can be as fast as 1/10 of the time
the "display" program takes.

Changes: The automatic thresholding to black and white was improved, and
the empty page detection enhanced; this is also a lot easier to use via
the external API. The BMP code was fixed to correctly read 16- and 32-bit
files with bitfields. The edisplay OSD was fixed for the latest Evas
release with pre-multiplied alpha colors.

(bit rate, sample frequency, play time, etc.).

Changes: A --no-zero-padding option was added to allow the disabling of
zero padding track numbers. A --nfo option was added for outputting NFO
format files about music directories. Numerous tag write fixes were made,
especially for ID3 v2.4. Time computation fixes were made for when
incorrect MP3 frames headers are found.

Scientific/Engineering

About: feresPost is a Ruby extension that provides the definition of
classes and modules devoted to the development of automated
post-processing for Nastran or Samcef finite element results. The library
allows easy manipulation of finite element models, groups, and results.
Efficient post-processing is possible because the time-consuming
operations are written in C/C++.

Changes: Improvements in the Classical Laminate Analysis module. Now the
definition of top and bottom laminate temperatures is possible. Moisture
expansion is taken into account. A bug in out-of-plane shear calculations
has been fixed.

[018] - Firewall Builder 2.1.11
  by Vadim Kurland (http://freshmeat.net/users/vkurland/)
  Tue, May 1st 2007 10:12

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Firewall Builder consists of a GUI and set of policy compilers for
various firewall platforms. It helps users maintain a database of objects
and allows policy editing using simple drag-and-drop operations. The GUI
and policy compilers are completely independent, which provides for a
consistent abstract model and the same GUI for different firewall
platforms. It currently supports iptables, ipfilter, ipfw, OpenBSD pf,
Cisco PIX, and FWSM.

Changes: The built-in installer now properly detects errors that arise
during activation of the iptables script. Support for --datestart and
--datestop options of the "time" module, as well as full set of options
for the "hashlimit" module, were implemented in the policy compiler for
iptables. It is now possible to generate rules to mark packets in the
OUTPUT chain of the mangle table. Support for the options "max-src-conn"
and "max-src-states" has been improved in the compiler for PF. Support for
the IP option "lsrr" has been added in compiler for ipfilter.

  by Vadim Kurland (http://freshmeat.net/users/vkurland/)
  Tue, May 1st 2007 10:13

Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Firewall Builder for PIX hides the complexity of PIX command line
interface and automatically configures options and parameters that
usually make manual configuration a real chore. With this module, the
same workstation running Firewall Builder can create and manage security
policy on Cisco PIX or FWSM firewalls, as well as on firewalls built with
iptables, OpenBSD pf, or  ipfilter.

Changes: This release fixes a bug where the policy compiler generated
unnecessary "clear acl" commands for the ACLs used in "nat" and "static"
commands. Further minor improvements have been made in the fwb_pix_diff
utility for PIX 7.x.

About: Gnofract 4D is a Gnome-based program to draw fractals. What sets it
apart from other fractal programs (and makes it "4D") is the way that it
treats the Mandelbrot and Julia sets as different views of the same
four-dimensional fractal object. It contains a Fractint-compatible formula
compiler, allowing it to draw an unlimited number of fractal types, using
numerous coloring options.

Changes: This release adds the ability to read gradients from UltraFractal

  Tue, May 1st 2007 09:51

System :: Systems Administration

About: Cfengine is a tool for setting up and maintaining BSD and
System-5-like operating system optionally attached to a TCP/IP network.
You can think of cfengine as a very high level language, much higher level
than Perl or shell: a single statement can result in many hundreds of
operations being performed on multiple hosts. Cfengine is good at
performing a lot of common system administration tasks, and allows you to
build on its strengths with your own scripts.

Changes: This release contains mainly internal changes to begin moving
towards Cfengine 3. It also includes several bugfixes; improved
recognition of SLES, Fedora, and Red Hat; initial SELinux support (via the
--enable-selinux configure option); list expansion in variables used in
editfiles; and instrumentation for several of its operations.

[026] - HTTPTunnel 0.9.1
  by Richard Mills (http://freshmeat.net/users/richmills/)
  Tue, May 1st 2007 09:49

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: HTTPTunnel is a simple client/server application for creating an
HTTP tunnel between two machines, optionally via a Web proxy. This tunnel
can then be used to wrap arbitrary TCP socket traffic in HTTP, thus
allowing communications even through a restrictive firewall that only
allows outgoing HTTP connections.

Changes: All configuration must now be provided via a configuration file,
the format of which has been completely updated from previous versions
(please see the README file for a description of the new format). This
allows the user to run multiple HTTP tunnel client or server instances
from within a single HTTPTunnel process. A threading bug that could cause
occasional deadlocks has been fixed.

[027] - Java Parallel Processing Framework 0.26.0
  by Laurent Cohen (http://freshmeat.net/users/lolocohen/)
  Tue, May 1st 2007 09:49

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: JPPF is a computational grid framework for Java focused on
performance and ease of use. It provides a set of tools and APIs to enable
the parallelization of CPU intensive applications, and distribute their
execution over a network of heterogenous nodes. It features platform
independence thanks to Java 1.5, does not require you to deploy your
application classes to a server, scales up to millions of nodes, has a
built-in fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components, and has a
monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the
server health and server shutdown/restart operations.

Changes: The demos and samples can now be run from a user interface, the
demonstrations console. The nodes can now override the performance
settings on the server side. Several critical bugs were fixed in the
server. Parts of the code were refactored for enhanced clarity and
extensibility.

[028] - JGame 2.0
  by Boris van Schooten (http://freshmeat.net/users/schooten/)
  Tue, May 1st 2007 13:16

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: JGame is a small 2D game engine that runs on any Java 1.2+
platform. It provides a very high-level framework, enabling "classic" type
arcade games to be developed with a minimum of code and effort. It is based
on sprites with automatic animation and collision detection, and a
tile-based background with easy sprite-tile interaction facilities. JGame
games can be run as both applications and applets, and can be scaled to
any resolution or run full-screen.

Changes: The main addition in this release is support for scrolling. There
are new methods for handling the playfield and view separately. JGObject
has a suspend feature. All draw methods can now be used relative to both
the playfield and view, and now take float coordinates. Scrolling is
illustrated by a new game, Space Run III, and a scrolling version of
Dungeons of Hack.

[029] - Kelbt 0.12
  by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
  Tue, May 1st 2007 13:17

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Text Processing :: General

About: Kelbt generates backtracking LALR parsers. It is different from
other backtracking LR systems in two ways. Firstly, it introduces a class
of actions called undo actions, which are invoked as the backtracker
undoes parsing. These allow the user to revert any side effects of forward
semantic actions, making it possible to backtrack over language constructs
which must modify global state in preparation for handling context
dependencies. Secondly, it enables a user-controlled parsing strategy
approximating that of generalized recursive-descent parsing. This makes it
easy to resolve language ambiguities by ordering the grammar productions of
a nonterminal according to their precedence. A partial C++ parser composed
of a scanner, a name lookup stage, and a grammar with standard semantic
actions and semantic undo actions is included.

Changes: The -l option was added for turning off line directives in
generated code. The class keyword was added. This indicates that a
nonterminal or the token type is a C++ class, and should have its
constructors and destructors called. The 'shortest' statement was added.
This allows one to force a shortest match of a list of items. The
semantics of commit was changed. It now forces a full commit rather than a
scoped commit. Many other improvements were made.

[030] - Logapp 0.4
  by Michael Brunner (http://freshmeat.net/users/mibrunner/)
  Tue, May 1st 2007 06:20

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
System

About: Logapp is a wrapper utility that helps supervise the execution of
applications that produce heavy console output (e.g. make, CVS, and
Subversion). It does this by logging, trimming, and coloring each line of
the output before displaying it. It can be called instead of the
executable that should be monitored; it then starts the application and
logs all of its console output to a file. The output shown in the terminal
is preprocessed, e.g. to limit the length of printed lines and to show the
stderr output in a different color. It is also possible to automatically
highlight lines that match a certain regular expression. The output is
therefore reduced to the necessary amount, and all important lines are
easy to identify.

Changes: Regular expression based line highlighting and additional output
processing options have been added.

[032] - monq.jfa 1.1
  by Harald Kirsch (http://freshmeat.net/users/pifpafpuf/)
  Tue, May 1st 2007 13:21

Text Processing :: Filters
Text Processing :: General

About: monq.jfa is a class library for fast and flexible text filtering
with regular expressions. In contrast to java.util.regex, monq.jfa allows
a regular expression to be bound to an action that is automatically called
whenever a match is spotted in an input stream. In addition, it can combine
several ten thousand regex/action pairs into one machinery (called a
"deterministic finite automaton" or DFA) for fast parallel text filtering.
A general purpose TCP server and associated classes in monq.net allow the
bigger DFAs to be run as servers.

Changes: This release has made the move to Java 1.5. There is only one
'unchecked' warning left. Generic parameters were added, and in the
process, a few loops were changed to the 1.5 syntax. There is a new
FaAction called monq.jfa.actions.Call. It simplifies writing applications,
because all callbacks for a Dfa can be combined as methods in one class and
need not be implemented as individual (anonymous) classes. Minor
improvements and cleanup have lead to slightly incompatible changes in
monq.clifj. The necessary changes are obvious from the compiler output.

  by Nils Weller (http://freshmeat.net/users/nweller/)
  Tue, May 1st 2007 06:01

Software Development :: Assemblers

About: nwbintools is a machine code tool-chain containing an assembler and
various related development tools. It will thus be similar to GNU's
binutils, but no attempts are made to duplicate its functionality,
organization, or interfaces. The assembler works on x86 ELF-based Linux
and FreeBSD systems.

Changes: This release extends the assembler with support for most
instructions from x87, MMX, SSE, SSE2, and SSE3. However, support for
various system-level and post-486 instructions is still missing. Various
critical bugs related to labels, relocations, and wrong section sizes were
