[001] - abcm2ps 5.1.2 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Tue, Nov 14th 2006 08:01

Printing

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: New options were added to the commands "%%textoption",
"%%begintext", and "%%titleformat". Bugs in P: and A: field were fixed.

[007] - Bible-Discovery 1.7
by SQL Uniform Software Team (http://freshmeat.net/users/sqluniform/)
  Tue, Nov 14th 2006 01:55

Religion

About: Bible-Discovery is complex Bible studying software. It contains
several Bible translations, dictionaries, tools for helping to understand
the texts in the original language, bookmark handling, customizable font
size and colour, a biblical text importing pane, and a parallel and
comparative Bible read feature. The program engine is free, but the
extension plug-in with the Greek and Hebrew dictionaries is a shareware
product.

Changes: The program now contains two cross reference systems with
hundreds of thousands of references: a system based on Nave's Topical
Bible references and another based on Gaspar Karoli's references. These
are optional shareware plug-ins. A new German user interface is available.
The software recognizes and highlights Bible references in Easton's and
Nave's dictionary.

[009] - Cobbler 0.3.3

  Tue, Nov 14th 2006 09:44

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
System :: Software Distribution Tools

About: Cobbler is a provisioning application that enables administrators
to rapidly set up environments for provisioning PXE, installing Linux
virtual images, and re-provisioning existing machines over SSH. The
application is designed for managing the provisioning of thousands of
machines or only a few. Extensive documentation is provided in the
accompanying manpages. Cobbler is easy to use and has an accompanying
Python API.

Changes: This release only deletes PXE portions of the /tftpboot directory
upon issuing a "cobbler sync", allowing the TFTP server to be used for
other things. All installs default to text mode for better hardware
compatibility. This can be chaged by removing the "text" kernel parameter
from /var/lib/cobbler/settings.

[010] - CrissCross 0.5.2
  by moz (http://freshmeat.net/users/mozillagodzilla/)
  Tue, Nov 14th 2006 01:54

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: CrissCross is a small cross-platform C++ library for threading,
console and file I/O, CPU identification (CPUID), and sockets (TCP and
UDP). The main goal is to provide the ability to write a program using
identical calls on the major platforms (Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD,
NetBSD, and Mac OS X) without needing to rewrite code. CPUID is only
currently supported on Linux and Windows running on x86 processors. There
is also theoretical support for IA-64 and x64 processors in 64-bit mode,
but only 32-bit mode has been tested.

Changes: CoreIO was split into CoreIOReader and CoreIOWriter. CoreConsole
now accepts input. CoreIOReader and CoreIOWriter check if the file is open
before attempting read or write operations. Makefiles were improved and
Visual C++ 6 project files were added. Data structures were moved to the
main include directory. Including CrissCross files with #include
<crisscross/foo> now works properly. CPUID now detects SSSE3 (Supplemental
SSE3 instructions) and CMP (Core Multi Processing, a.k.a. dual core).
Sockets were heavily edited and the TCPSocket::Accept() syntax was
changed.

  by soucy-al (http://freshmeat.net/users/also515/)
  Tue, Nov 14th 2006 15:07

About: JNutrix is a small application written with the Java language. You
can search and find the 131 nutrient values, if they are recorded, of over
5300 foods usually found on the Canadian market. The utilization is quite
trivial, and makes use of the mouse except for entering the name of the
food. The name of the food can be search for by entering the first
characters or a few sets of characters separated by spaces. Once the food
is found and its quantity fixed, the food can be cumulate to form a meal,
which you can print. The nutrients can be sorted by clicking on the column
header. The program has a French or English interface as well as a
bilingual database.

Changes: This release has filtering based on food groups. You can search
foods for their nutrient content.

Software Development

About: Liboil is a library of simple functions that are optimized for
various CPUs. These functions are generally loops which implement simple
algorithms, such as converting an array of N integers to floating-poing
numbers or multiplying and summing an array of N numbers. Clearly, such
functions are candidates for significant optimization using various
techniques, especially by using extended instructions provided by modern
CPUs (Altivec, MMX, SSE, etc.).

Changes: A lot of assembly optimizations were added for optimizing Dirac
operations as used in the recently released Schrödinger Dirac
implementation.

[032] - mp3fs transcoding FUSE filesystem 0.05
  by David Collett (http://freshmeat.net/users/daveco/)
  Tue, Nov 14th 2006 03:10

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion
System :: Filesystems

About: MP3FS is a read-only FUSE filesystem that transcodes FLAC audio
files to MP3 on the fly when opened and read. It is useful to enable the
use of your FLAC collection with software and/or hardware that only
understands MP3s. It is also a novel alternative to traditional MP3
encoder applications. Just use your favorite file browser to select the
files you want encoded, and copy them somewhere.

Changes: This release fixes a serious crash that could occur when
accessing files multiple times simultaneously. It also sees a switch from
lame's internal ID3 library to libid3tag, which is much more powerful.
ID3v1 and v2 tags are now supported. Only version 2.4 v2 tags are written
by libid3tag, which may cause some apps that don't understand v2.4 tags to
use the v1 tag instead. Many more tags are now transcoded.

  Tue, Nov 14th 2006 05:06

About: NVRAMD is simple assignment-value-pair data base server typically
used as a configuration registry on embedded systems. Several features are
particularly useful for that purpose: the data base is completely held in
application memory and a flash (or a plain file) is used to store a copy
of that data base that is loaded when the server starts. Changes in the
data are only saved after a set time since the last change occurred,
preventing flash from being written too frequently.

[043] - PHP JavaScript Tooltip Generator Class 1.1
  by Stefan Gabos (http://freshmeat.net/users/stefangabos/)
  Tue, Nov 14th 2006 15:38

Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: PHP JavaScript Tooltip Generator Class is a PHP class that can
generate JavaScript tooltips. It works on all major browsers, but
transparency is not supported on Opera. In Internet Explorer, the tooltips
show above HTML SELECT elements as they should. The appearance of the
tooltips is template driven. Only onmouseover/onmousemove events need to
be sepcified, not onmouseout.

Changes: in Firefox, the tooltips were showing up in the right position
only the first time; after that, the tooltips would show in the top left
corner of the screen. "Sticky" tooltips can now be created (tooltips that
follow the mouse cursor) by calling the "show" method on the onmousemove
event rather than on the onmouseover event. In Internet Explorer, the
vertical scrollbar no longer appears if a tooltip is shown. Automatic
tooltip re-positioning has been improved in order to keep the tooltip in
the visible part of the browser window if it would "flow" outside. There
is some code cleanup.

About: The timemachine can record the entire contents of a high-volume
network traffic stream in order to later "travel back in time" and inspect
activity that has only become interesting in retrospect. Two examples of
use are security forensics (determining just how an attacker compromised a
given machine) and network trouble-shooting, such as inspecting the
precursors to a fault after the fault. The timemachine is designed to work
in Gigabit environments and to store several days of network traffic.

Security

About: vthrottle is an implementation of an SMTP throttling engine for
Sendmail servers, based upon M. Williamson's mechanisms, as described in
his 2003 Usenix Security paper. It allows the administrator to control how
much email users and hosts may send, hindering the rapid spread of viruses,
worms, and spam. Exceptions can be made using a whitelist mechanism, which
can be generated manually or with the included tool "vmeasure". vthrottle
tells the misbehaving client to hold on to the deferred mail and resend it
at a later time.

Changes: Logging and handling of mail was improved. A cleanup function was
added. Changes were made to logging. Reliability was improved.

About: Webmatic is a system for dynamically creating a Web site directly
on-line. The webmatic control panel makes it possible to manage the entire
contents of a Web site without knowing any kind of programming language or
HTML language. With Webmatic you can create and manage a newsletter,
create and manage a FAQ section, create a page with the horoscope, create
and manage a search engine, create a page for user registration,
differentiate the access levels for each user, manage up to 9 advertising
banners easily, create a multi-language Web site with a panel for quickly
changing the language, and change the site's graphical theme, detailed
statistics for your Web site. You can also create your own ecommerce
website with products catalog.

the functionalities are now much clearer. A new function was added that
lets a user add products in the ecommerce section. A magic quotes bug was
fixed, so now Webmatic also works with the "magic quotes" PHP option set
to off. All the input forms were redesigned. An option that can enable or
disable the logging was added. A button that lets the administrator delete
all the comments for a news item was added. A button to delete a file was
added in file manager section. A bug which occurred when a user is deleted
was fixed.

built on a simple premise: components comprise a web page and components
can be nested to create more complicated effects. This provides for easy
browser-based editing.

Changes: This release introduces FCKEditor as the WYSIWYG editor, offering
several enhancements including additional font control. Other changes
include full IE6 and IE7 support, as well as performance improvements due
to improved browser caching and reduced script sizes.

[071] - xlit 2.3
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Tue, Nov 14th 2006 01:51

Text Processing
Text Processing :: Linguistic
Text Processing :: Markup

About: Xlit converts text from one writing system into another. It allows
the user to define a transliteration simply by typing the input strings in
one window and the strings to which they are to be mapped in another.
Transliteration may be restricted to regions bounded by specified
delimiters or their complements. Transliteration may also be performed by
external commands or plugins. Xlit can also convert one type of delimiter
to another, e.g. from HZ escapes to XML. Xlit can read and write
transliteration definitions in its own format and as Yudit keymaps. It can
be run in batch mode without the GUI.

Changes: Configuration files that load plugins now work properly with the
GUI. Configuration files generated by xlit's Save Configuration command no
longer trigger errors when read in batch mode. The popup for inserting
accented letters has been improved, with more characters and upper case
versions of the letters available.

and statistics. This data can then be analyzed, graphed, or otherwise
presented by a front-end.

Changes: With this round of feature enhancements and cleanups, XSI's
NetBSD port has become feature-complete with sensors support and the
ability to cope with API changes between NetBSD 3 and 4/-current. NetBSD
is now fully supported. Also, the ipfilter stats had two remaining
counters enabled, and actually show up on Solaris now, due to a minor
