[001] - Absolute OS 11.0.3
  by Paul Sherman (http://freshmeat.net/users/psherma1/)
  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 23:56

About: Absolute OS is a fast Slackware derivative Linux distribution that
uses a Icewm and ROX-Filer window/file manager combination. It comes with
Firefox, The GIMP, MPlayer, K3B, Azureus, Gaim, Frostwire, Gftp, StarDict,
and many other titles all set up and ready to run. Several utilities are
included to ease configuration and management. It is compatible with all
Slackware 11 packages and can be installed just like a Slackware disk,
except that any choice of packages is removed, as it just installs
everything.

Changes: The installer now allows much better control, including an
update-only feature that only installs new or updated packages. The
absAdduser utility now sets an initial group (users) as well as the others
it did previously, fixing a problem where the CD player did not find audio
CDs. A few other interface tweaks were made.

[002] - ACL Policy Daemon for Postfix 0.4
  by Miguel Filho (http://freshmeat.net/users/miguelfilho/)
  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 23:52

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
System :: Systems Administration

About: ACL Policy Daemon is a program that communicates with the Postfix
MTA using the Policy Delegation Protocol to implement an ACL (Access
Control List) system, making it very easy to improve and create controls
for your email traffic. It can verify SPF records, and greylisting
support is planned.

Changes: pyspf was upgraded to version 2.0 with RFC 4408 support. A small
but very efficient cache for SPF results was implemented, providing a
great speed improvement. Heavy profiling was undertaken, leading to a
reduction from 300k calls to 90k calls with 560 requests and from 40 secs
to 4 secs for ACL tests. Apolicy will silently try to use psyco if
available, which gives a large performance gain. Data validation sent by
Postfix was improved using code from tumgreypsf.

[003] - AnotherScrapBook A.04.01.10
  by ewl (http://freshmeat.net/users/ewl/)
  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 05:51

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation

About: AnotherScrapBook is a static Website generator. It can currently
handle (almost) all kinds of pictures, as well as MJPEG films as
typically generated by a digital camera.

Changes: This release adds --save-config and --config options (to save and
reuse options), a --man option to get help about specific options, an
ASB::In::TkTag class to view and tag photos with a Tk GUI, the ability to
go back-and-forth through the tree using the NEXT, PREV, and UP methods,
INDEX and TAG methods for Items, and id and ORIGID fields for Items
(useful for sorting).

  by Stijn van Dongen (http://freshmeat.net/users/micans/)
  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 10:39

System :: Shells

About: Apparix enables fast file system navigation by bookmarking
directories and later jumping to them using the mark. The contributed bash
completion code allows one to complete on bookmarks and on subdirectories
of the target directory.

Changes: Another bugfix release, as the pivotal mechanism of adding
bookmarks was sadly broken in the last two releases.

[005] - ccbuild 1.5.3
  by A. Bram Neijt (http://freshmeat.net/users/bmm/)
  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 10:38

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: ccbuild is like a dynamic Makefile. ccbuild finds all programs in
the current directory (containing "int main") and builds them. For this,
it reads the C++ sources and looks at all local and global includes. All
C++ files surrounding local includes are considered objects for the main
program. The global includes lead to extra compiler arguments using a
configuration file. ccbuild splits these arguments for compilation and
linking, keeping the linking arguments back for later use. It should allow
development without any scripting and only simple reusable configuration.
Deployment and distribution should still be done with other tools. It can
create simple Makefiles, A-A-P files, and graph dependencies using DOT
(graphviz) graphs.

Changes: This release fixes a bug in handling '../../' paths, and
increases the speed of the distclean command. Distclean now also removes
rpo files, although using -frepo is not fully supported and may need
--md5 to function more properly.

  by Piotr Pszczolkowski (http://freshmeat.net/users/PiotrPsz/)
  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 10:45

Software Development :: Build Tools
Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)

About: Cobras is a programming environment for Qt, and is written in Qt
itself. It is basic, but very functional and helpful. It is small, fast,
and easy in use. It consists of one binary file (plus an icon for the
desktop). It does not create its own files when working with a project,
but uses only the original '.pro' file.

Changes: All parts of the main window can be configured (fonts, colors,
etc.). It is possible to print editor contents. When a user searches for a
phrase in the editor, pre-selected text is used as a proposition. You can
specify a project to be opened at start ono the command line. It is
possible to 'run' a destination program (binary file) from a location
other than the path of the project file using the variable DESTDIR.

[009] - deep 0.8e
  by Richard Harris (http://freshmeat.net/users/r_e_h/)
  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 10:37

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Deep is a content management system that serves HTML, preformatted
text, Deep shorthand content, or the output of a Lua script using simple
templates and CSS. There are hooks to sell this content either by single
page or multi-page set through PayPal. You can use Deep to publish other
peoples' work, diverting a percentage of the payments to the publisher and
allowing the rest to go directly to the author. To promote fairness, the
server makes these percentages public. Deep is also a blog server, using
simple uploaded text files for entries and generating all indices on the
fly. It does not use a database and requires only a cgi-bin directory on a
Unix server.

Changes: This release adds a Forms object, which allows sub-site owners to
simply and securely gather, moderate, and display form data by supplying
only the interior of the HTML form.

[012] - Flagpoll 0.8.1
  by Daniel Shipton (http://freshmeat.net/users/dshipton/)
  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 13:14

Software Development :: Build Tools
Utilities

About: Flagpoll is a tool for developers to use meta-data files for
storing information on what is needed to compile their software. Think of
it as the rpm of software development. It provides developers with total
control over which packages, versions, architectures, et cetera that they
want to use meta-data from. Instead of specifying other packages' cflags
and ldflag manually, you can call `flagpoll mylib --cflags --ldflags` and
it will retrieve the flags for its package as well as its dependencies.

Changes: Many bugs have been squashed in this release due to a new basic
test suite that was added. Recursive dependency lookups have been
improved, as well as debug output.

  by DaveFX (http://freshmeat.net/users/davefx/)
  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 06:17

Security :: Cryptography
System :: Systems Administration

About: gnoMint is a tool for easily creating and managing certification
authorities. It provides fancy visualization of all the pieces of
information that pertain to a CA, such as x509 certificates, CSRs, and
CRLs. gnoMint is currently capable of managing a CA that emits
certificates that are able to authenticate people or machines in VPNs
(IPSec or other protocols), secure HTTP communications with SSL/TLS,
authenticate and cipher HTTP communications through Web-client
certificates, and sign or crypt email messages.

Changes: This release allows exporting unencrypted private keys (useful
for unattended SSL/TLS servers), requires a minimum length (eight
characters) for private-key passphrase exportation (so OpenSSL can import
keys), and checks that the passphrase and confirmation are the same in the
private-key exportation passphrase and that the focus is grabbed correctly
when asking for a passphrase, so no mouse action is needed.

  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 16:37

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Scanners
Office/Business

About: gscan2pdf is a GUI to ease the process of producing PDFs from
scanned documents. You scan in one or several pages and create a PDF of
selected pages. At maturity, the GUI will have similar features to that of
the Windows Imaging program, but with the express objective of writing a
PDF, including metadata. Scanning is handled with SANE via scanimage. PDF
conversion is done by libtiff. Perl is used for portability and ease of
programming, with gtk2-perl for the GUI.

Changes: A partial Swedish translation. A partial French translation.
Updates to the German translation. A bug in arguments passed to scanimage
in non-English locales has been fixed. There is a liblocale-gettext-perl
(1.05 or higher) dependency in the .deb version. Support has been added
for epson_3490 and canoscan_FB_630P scanners.

[020] - Gujin 1.6
  by Etienne (http://freshmeat.net/users/etiennelorrain/)
  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 13:18

System :: Boot :: Init

About: Gujin is a PC boot loader which can analyze your filesystems. It
finds the Linux kernel images available, as well as other bootable
partitions (for *BSD, MS-DOS, Windows, etc.), and displays a graphical
menu for selecting which system to boot. Because it understands the
structure of Linux kernel images, Gujin does not need LILO and can even
load very big kernels. There is no need to execute anything after making a
new kernel: just copy the kernel image file into the "/boot" directory.
Gujin is written almost entirely in C with GCC, and it fully executes in
real mode to be as compatible as possible.

Changes: This version improves the input method of the Linux command line
(typed at boot time and saved in between boots when disk-write is
enabled), better handles USB thumb drive booting (compatible with USB-FDD
and USB-HDD at the same time), can load initramfs* filenames (an initrd
not to be decompressed), works on more CD/DVD drives, adds more "instboot"
parameters, and improves the serial terminal management.

[063] - wingS 2.1 beta1
  by Holger Engels (http://freshmeat.net/users/hengels/)
  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 05:40

Software Development

About: wingS is a servlet development framework for Web applications. It
features Swing-like components and utilizes Swing models, Swing events,
and a very similar API. A special LayoutManager allows you to place
components using designer provided HTML templates. The HTML code
generation of the components themself supports PLAF (Pluggable Look and
Feel), so it is possible to create a different output, like plain HTML,
HTML+CSS, and WML.

Changes: While 2.1 is primarily a bugfix release, several new features and
improvements are included as well. The generated HTML codesize has been
greatly reduced. Rendering is much faster, and many layout issues have
been tackled.

[064] - XINS 1.5.0-rc1 (Development)
  by Anthony Goubard (http://freshmeat.net/users/agoubard/)
  Fri, Nov 10th 2006 10:46

Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.

Changes: This release is a code cleanup using several tools such as PMD
and FindBugs. There is also a new lint4j target for APIs. Documentation
for Eclipse integration has been reviewed.
