The goal is to provide an easy-to-use, yet powerful and complete interface
to generate DVD menus, slideshows, and videos to burn on a DVD under Linux.

Changes: Cut/copy/paste was implemented for MenuObjects. It is now
possible to convert the whole project from NTSC to PAL and the other way
around. A new dialog was added to align multiple objects. ShadowDialog was
improved to handle mutiple objects. The DVD now keeps the last active
button when jumping to a video. The capabilities to set audio and
subtitles for a button were added. Broken autosave functionality was
fixed. Many other bugs were fixed.

  Wed, Nov 8th 2006 04:33

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
System :: Systems Administration

About: ACL Policy Daemon is a program that communicates with the Postfix
MTA using the Policy Delegation Protocol to implement an ACL (Access
Control List) system, making it very easy to improve and create controls
for your email traffic. It can verify SPF records, and greylisting
support is planned.

Changes: SPF support was added. Due to the new SPF support, pyspf and
pydns are merged into the daemon's code. The "no_spf" statement was added
to skip the SPF check based on ACLs. The configuration file is loaded by
default from /etc/apolicy/apolicy.conf, and you can use the -c parameter
to change this. The logging level configuration was fixed, some debug
messages were missed.

  Wed, Nov 8th 2006 05:38

Text Processing :: Filters
Utilities

About: bbe is a sed-like editor for binary files. Instead of reading input
in lines as sed, bbe reads arbitrary blocks from an input stream and
performs byte-related transformations on found blocks. Blocks can be
defined using start/stop strings, stream offset and block length, or a
combination. Basic editing commands include delete, replace,
search/replace, binary operations (and, or, etc.), append, and bcd/ASCII
conversion. For examining the input stream, it contains some grep-like
features like printing the input file name, stream offset, and block
number of found blocks. Block contents can also be printed in different
formats like hex, octal, ASCII, and binary.

Changes: The "x" command has been added.

Changes: The album management was improved vastly in speed. The playback
engine code and big parts of the UI code were cleaned up and harnessed.
Initial podcast support was added. Last.fm support was improved with
display of neighbour/friend stations for easier access. The playlist was
improved by adding an easy to use filesystem tree. Various bugs were fixed
in the configuration system, the database, and the album view.

[020] - Efax-gtk 3.0.12 (Stable)
  by Chris Vine (http://freshmeat.net/users/cvine/)
  Wed, Nov 8th 2006 14:08

About: Efax-gtk provides a GUI frontend for the efax fax program. It
interfaces with efax directly, replacing the scripts supplied with efax,
and can be used for receiving and sending faxes, and for viewing,
printing, and managing faxes which have been received and sent. It also
has a socket interface that provides a "virtual printer" for sending faxes
from word processors and similar programs, and can automatically e-mail a
received fax to a designated user and automatically print a received fax.

Changes: Catalan and Hebrew translations have been updated. Hostname
addresses allowed to connect to the socket server may now be specified in
numeric dot notation, and with a trailing wildcard. Configuration files
have been upgraded to automake 1.9.6. There are various bugfixes.

Database :: Database Engines/Servers
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: The ExtenDB Parallel Server is a clustered database solution for
data warehousing and business intelligence. It leverages the PostgreSQL
database running on PC-based commodity hardware, and intelligently
coordinates work between them. This allows for the scaling out of
databases to handle large data volumes quickly.

Internet
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Firebolt is a network protocol oriented library. It's not another
socket library; it offers higher level services to the developer. You can
structure your protocol in the form of states and the transitions between
those states with the use of your custom events. Thus you no longer need
to worry about what data you just received from a socket and whether or
not those data are expected in the current state of your network code,
since that sort of validation is all performed by Firebolt.

Changes: This release fixes portability issues concerning Mac OS X and
some Unix variants that would cause compilation to fail.

About: ipcam is a motion detection and recording program for IP cameras.
It reads a JPEG stream from the IP camera and tries to detect motion by
comparing the images to each other and calculating differences in
brightness and color. Once motion is detected, ipcam switches to recording
mode and stores the JPEG images in separate files in a new directory. When
recording is finished and no more motion is detected, ipcam can start an
external program for further processing on the JPEG files.

Office/Business
Office/Business :: Financial :: Accounting
Office/Business :: Groupware

About: Open Blue Lab is a RAD framework (MDA based) that transforms UML
models in Web 2.0 portal applications without writing code. It is
currently being used to develop a full Web ERP from scratch. Portal layout
may be configured through the UI, and Ajax and HTML-based forms are
automatically built from XML widget definitions, which may be generated on
the fly from a UML model that describes your information system. Widgets
are dynamically populated, making them data-aware automatically at run
time with no need to code any database interaction. This framework allows
you to focus on Information System design, with forms and portal
architecture being generated automatically.

Changes: The application generator now correctly interprets complex class
diagrams. Automagically generated forms are well structured, and automatic
views permit you to browse data without doing anything else. New
stereotypes like textarea-{cols|rows} and rte-{cols|rows} (for a rich text
editor that is currently based on FCKeditor) are available.

  by Pierre Gaufillet (http://freshmeat.net/users/pgaufillet/)
  Wed, Nov 8th 2006 07:53

Software Development

About: TOPCASED (Toolkit in OPen source for Critical Applications and
SystEm Development) is a system/software engineering workshop based on
Eclipse. It aims to provide the tools required to go from requirements to
the implementation stages. The current version includes several graphical
editors: ECORE, UML 2, structured analysis, and AADL (Architecture
Analysis and Design Language). These editors are partially generated from
ECORE models and models can be checked (OCL and EMF checks are supported
at this time). External tools can be easily connected to the workshop
thanks to a simple communication bus.

Changes: Models and diagrams can now be split up into several files.
Properties view definition and management has been improved. The graphical
editor generator now includes a checker. A new wizard makes it easier to
set SourceTargetCouple. The UML editor now displays stereotypes for the
most significant UML elements and connections, and some improvements have
been added to class and state machine diagrams. Of course, this release
also fixes the usual bunch of bugs.

Information Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Xapian is a search engine library. It is written in C++ with
bindings to Perl, Python, PHP, Java, Tcl, C#, and Ruby. Xapian is a highly
adaptable toolkit which allows developers to easily add advanced indexing
and search facilities to their own applications. It supports the
Probabilistic Information Retrieval model and also supports a rich set of
boolean query operators. Omega is a Web site search application built upon
the Xapian library.

Changes: The remote backend's TCP variant has much lower latency (by using
TCP_NODELAY). The test suite harness now runs tests on a remote TCP
database in a quicker, more robust way. Scriptindex's "date" action no
longer modifies the value it operates on. The OmegaScript $setmap function
gives an error if called with an even number of parameters. The bindings
wrap Flint::open() and Flint::open_writable(). The Python bindings now
build on 64-bit platforms with Python 2.5. All three tarballs now include
custom INSTALL instructions rather than generic configure instructions.

About: XSI is an easy-to-use, secure, and comprehensive system monitoring
daemon that replies to network queries with XML-encoded system information
and statistics. This data can then be analyzed, graphed, or otherwise
presented by a front-end.

Changes: XMLSysInfo has a new Solaris port, including accompanying
portability improvements and fixes. All features, except those specific to
network interfaces, are available in the new port. Also, support for
multiple packet filters has been added both on the gathering and
displaying side, meaning the XML Schema had to change in that area. With
this in place, ipfilter support could be added, and XSI now reports ipf
statistics on FreeBSD, NetBSD, and Solaris. The finishing touches were two
reliability bugfixes and further documentation improvements.

Text Editors

About: Zim is a WYSIWYG text editor written in Gtk2-Perl It aims to bring
the concept of a wiki to your desktop. Every page is saved as a text file
with wiki markup. Pages can contain links to other pages, and are saved
automatically. Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a non-existing
page. Pages are ordered in a hierarchical structure that gives it the look
and feel of an outliner. This tool is intended to keep track of TODO lists
or to serve as a personal scratch book.

Changes: The formatting buttons have been changed to toggles, so typing
bold, italic, etc. now works like one would expect from a rich text
editor. Relative links are resolved much more intelligently now, so using
names of pages in the path above the current page will automatically link
to the right place. Navigation controls for the previous page and next
page were added. Furthermore, the code was cleaned up considerably and a
lot of tests were added.
