Ever wonder why HP has seven consecutive years of Linux market share

leadership? Maybe it's our portfolio of best-of-breed partner products, or
HP value-add in management, high availability, and virtualization. Maybe
it's the integrated, consolidated infrastructure of HP BladeSystem,
single-source accountability and solution support from HP Services in 160
countries, or just our unwavering commitment to the open source community.

Database
Documentation
Information Management

About: AgileWiki is a Java-based wiki that provides a virtual wiki for
each registered user, complete with access control, versioning,
hierarchical structures, namespace management, and semantic relations,
qualifiers, and inferencing. This is a rich system that is also easy for
casual users to browse or add content. Prototypes for this system also
included an email client and server-to-server content sharing.

Changes: The crRelation command is now applicable only when there are
relation DUs. The relationDUs and ruleDUs commands are now applicable only
when there is something to list. The view command's Semantics feature has
been split into the Relations and Inferencing features. The relations
command now requires the Agile feature.

[005] - Cobbler 0.2.5

  Tue, Oct 17th 2006 13:59

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
System :: Software Distribution Tools

About: Cobbler is a provisioning configuration tool that enables
administrators to rapidly set up environments for (simultaneously)
provisioning PXE, installing Xen, and re-provisioning existing machines
("auto-kickstart"). Set up of a PXE server, once a very manual process, is
now greatly simplified. Cobbler also enables integrating Xen into a PXE
provisioning infrastructure. The application is designed for managing the
provisioning of thousands of machines or only a few. Extensive
documentation is provided in the accompanying manpages. Cobbler is easy to
use and has an accompanying Python API.

Changes: This release has the ability to import distributions and profiles
automatically from existing filesystem directories or rsync:// distribution
mirrors (such as the Fedora rsync mirrors). This command is "cobbler
import" and is explained in the man page documentation. As of 0.2.5,
cobbler (and koan) are updated to play nice with Python 2.3 (as opposed to
just 2.4). Further compatibility updates for older distributions are
pending. This release also includes miscellaneous bugfixes, including some
related to command line parsing and error handling.

  Tue, Oct 17th 2006 13:26

Software Development
Software Development :: Documentation

About: Doxygen is a cross-platform, JavaDoc-like documentation system for
C++, C, Objective-C, C#, Java, IDL, Python, and PHP. Doxygen can be used
to generate an on-line class browser (in HTML) and/or an off-line
reference manual (in LaTeX or RTF) from a set of source files. Doxygen can
also be configured to extract the code-structure from undocumented source
files. This includes dependency graphs, class diagrams and hyperlinked
source code. This type of information can be very useful to quickly find
your way in large source distributions.

Changes: This release adds support for larger code bases by using the disk
for temporary storage of data instead of keeping everything in memory.
Build support for VC++ 2005 has been added. An example application is
provided in the addon directory, which shows how to use doxygen from
within another GPL'ed application. Many bugs have been fixed.

[010] - Dual DHCP DNS Server 3.1
  by Achal Dhir (http://freshmeat.net/users/achaldhir/)
  Tue, Oct 17th 2006 01:50

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
System :: Networking

About: Dual DHCP DNS Server is a combined DHCP/DNS server for small LANs.
Dynamic DHCP allocates/renews host addresses, while the caching DNS server
first tries resolving from DHCP-allotted names, then from cache, and only
then forwarding to external DNS servers. It has built in dynamic updates,
and also supports BOOTP PXE network booting and client specific options.
It is self-configuring, doesn't require the creation of zone files, and
uses little memory and CPU.

Changes: In Windows, the service stops automatically when run in
StandAlone mode. A problem where duplicate static hosts were causing
errors was fixed.

  Tue, Oct 17th 2006 00:15

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: General

About: edival is a simple EDI file parser and validator. Current
functionality is limited to ANSI X12 formatted data. The main target of
development is for HIPAA insurance transactions (USA), but any X12 EDI
transaction set should currently apply.

Changes: The name of the function used to register binary elements was
fixed and now matches the API. Major API changes were made in
complextype.[ch], edival.h, and simpletype.[ch]. Multiple functions can
now be called without relying on passing a schema pointer as an argument.
Internal calls throughout the library were appropriately. The return of
EDI_AppendType was changed to be the parent rather than the child.

Web cameras, and PCs.

Changes: Promiscuous mode scans are less disruptive. A random IP isn't
picked until after an ARP scan of the local network has completed and
steps are taken to ensure that the IP chosen isn't in use. A bug where

  Tue, Oct 17th 2006 23:11

Communications :: Usenet News
Database
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: PIMPPA automates file downloading from newsgroups and FTP sites.
Its especially designed for leeching pictures but can be used for any
files. Filename-based heuristics and MD5 checksums are used for
spam/duplicate prevention and automatic sorting of incoming material. The
whole process is cronable. PIMPPA also includes a GNOME GUI and several
commandline utilities for further processing and management of the kept
files.

Changes: This version adds support for downloading WWW image galleries by
crawling through index sites that constantly provide fresh links to
galleries. Content can be selected by requiring the link descriptions to
match given regex patterns. The links will be remembered to avoid
re-crawling. In addition, files in the database can now be tagged and

About: TimeTrex is a complete Web-based payroll and time management suite
that offers employee scheduling, attendance (time clock), job costing,
invoicing/accounts receivable, and payroll in a tightly integrated
package. With the ability to interface with hardware such as iButtons,
barcode readers, and cell phones, employees are able to efficiently track
their time at the office or on the road. It can automatically calculate
complex over time and premium time business policies, and is immediately
able to identify labor costs attributed to projects by employee, branch,
department, task-type and quantities produced. It can process your payroll
by calculating withholding taxes (US/Canada), generate detailed electronic
pay stubs, and even print paychecks or direct deposit funds.

Changes: This release fixes a bug that caused employee punching in/out to
fail. It also contains several other minor bugfixes, employee/punch import
scripts, performance improvements, and a few reporting enhancements.
