System :: Monitoring

About: battery_monitor is a small battery monitoring program for Linux
that you can run in the background from your desktop session or launch
from the boot scripts. It is designed with simple goals in mind, and
provides acoustic and/or visual alerts when your battery level is low or
when it is fully charged, so you can take appropriate actions.

Changes: A bug has been fixed that made the program crash after suspending
the machine under certain conditions. The check period can now be specified
manually as an extra argument.

Communications :: Telephony
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Bayonne is the telephony server of the GNU project. It offers a
script-driven threaded multi-line state event telephony service on
GNU/Linux, xBSD, and Microsoft Windows for building voice response
systems, and uses telephony plugins for runtime driver configuration. It
also features "TGI" for making Perl applications "telephony aware". It may
be used to build telephony-based system administration, home automation,
automated attendant, v-commerce, and voice messaging systems.

Changes: Bayonne2 text-to-speech services are integrated through the TTS
definitions macro facility. The BayonneXML parser has been integrated as
an alternate service binding. This allows Bayonne to query and then voice
render XML documents that are formatted in BayonneXML and served from Web
sites. BayonneXML is related to CallXML, and you will soon be able to use
existing CallXML graphical tools to generate Bayonne applications.

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: This release fixes several bugs involving the corner cases
handling the distributed version tree.

allowing email to be sent to unknown addresses, or revealing the
addresses that it knows. In addition to this, it does not contain cross
site scripting vulnerabilities or allow arbitrary code to be run on the
host. It provides adequate information in the headers it sends to trace
spammers, can check the validity of all data before sending emails, and
features a customizable interface that allows for arbitrary fields.

  Tue, May 30th 2006 23:55

Software Development :: Libraries

About: cxxtools is a library of unrelated, but useful C++ classes. It
contains an argument-parser, a base-64 encoder/decoder, a C++ interface to
iconv, md5-stream for easy MD5 calculation, threading classes, socket
classes, a dynamic exception-safe buffer, a wrapper for dlopen/dlsym, a
pool template (e.g., for a connection pool in a multi-threaded
application), query_params, and a class for easy parsing of CGI parameters
(GET and POST) in a CGI program.

Changes: This is a bugfix release. It corrects the fact that applications
based on cxxtools (like Tntnet) failed to start on systems without IPv6.

Database
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: dao-zero is a tiny Java bean used to reduce the source of a
persistence tier based on Spring's iBatis support. The usual way to use
iBatis in Spring is to write code and invoke the iBatis API explicitly.
dao-zero invokes the iBatis API for the developer automatically, without
the need to write implementation code. It will implement DAO interfaces
automatically and invoke iBatis SQL mapped statements for you. You can use
it to replace your DAO bean class directly.

Changes: daozero.ibatis.Dao and daozero.ibatis.AutoProxy were refactored.
Mistakes in documents were fixed. Section 4's sample class,
"AccountDaoImpl", should extend SqlMapClientDaoSupport.

Database
Database :: API
Database :: Database Engines/Servers

About: db4o is an object database available for Java and for .NET,
including CompactFramework and Mono. Features include ACID transactions,
automatic class schema recognition, query-by-example, S.O.D.A. object
querying API, callback methods, memory files, cascade-on-delete,
multi-threaded access, and Java Webstart and servlet support.

Changes: This release comes with a new BTree architecture for class
indexes, resulting in reduced memory consumption with yet more
performance. As an example benchmark, 250 million objects were stored with
a constant memory footprint of less than 40 MB at a constant overall insert
rate of 8000 objects per second on a slow 5400 RPM hard disc. The complete
marshalling format has also been revised for this release to allow
clustered writes of untyped references along with parent objects. The
marshalling change also contributes to a strong improvement in read and
write performance.

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: EasyBMP is a cross-platform C++ library for reading and writing
Windows bitmap (BMP) files. Designed for ease of use, it requires no
installation or external libraries, is small in size, well-documented, and
is simple enough for the novice programmer to start in just minutes.

Changes: This release focuses on improving performance and compatibility.
Disk access performance was improved by using buffering in the
ReadFromFile() and WriteToFile() functions. The new code is also much
cleaner, particularly for 1, 4, and 8-bpp images. A change was made to
ensure compatibility with 64-bit architectures (e.g., Athlon64). The BYTE,
WORD, and DWORD data types are now prefixed by "ebmp" to avoid conflicts
with other projects. Lastly, the sample code and makefile were moved to a
subdirectory, so that unzipping EasyBMP into a project directory won't
overwrite critical makefiles.

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Systems Administration

About: g4u ("ghost for unix") is a boot-floppy/CD that allows one to
easily clone PC hard disks by using FTP. This is often done to deploy a
common setup on a number of PCs. The floppy/CD offers two functions: it
uploads the compressed image of a local hard disk to an FTP server, and
then it can retrieve that image via FTP, uncompress it, and write it back
to disk. Network configuration is fetched via DHCP. As the hard disk is
processed as an image, any filesystem and operating system can be deployed
using g4u. Easy cloning of local disks as well as partitions is also
supported.

Changes: The most important changes in this release lie in an improved
infrastructure that allow more flexibility, removing the 2.88MB limit that
g4u previously had. Many new device drivers were added.

About: Hachoir is a Python library which can display a stream of binary
data on a field per field basis. A field is the most basic information: a
number, a string of characters, a flag (yes/no), etc. Only supported
formats can be opened, it's not a magic tool. It can be used to extract
some informations (eg. metadatas), edit some fields of a file without
original program, or convert a file from a format to another.

Changes: The library was rewritten from scratch. It now has a better API
(with size/address in bits) and is able to parse more than 20 file
formats, including MP3 music, xcf pictures, and ext2 partitions. A tool
for extracting metadata such as video codec, image size, compression
method, and document author, etc. was included.

About: PayPal Wifi PrePaid integrates with Chillispot and FreeRADIUS and
PayPal. This package allows the customer to choose how much time they wish
to purchase, processes the payment with PayPal, then creates their username

About: PDFreactor is a formatting processor for converting XML and
XHTML/HTML documents into PDF. It uses Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to
define page layout and styles. It allows you to dynamically generate PDF

common J2EE application servers are supported. Direct integration into
automatic build processes using Apache Ant is also possible.

Changes: There were changes in the PDFreactorConfiguration class to
improve API consistency. A few issues were fixed such as PDF encryption
not working, XSLT not working in CLI mod, absolute positioning not working
in paged mode and for the bottom position, the height and width properties
should not apply to non-replaced inline-level elements, and local DTD
files were not loaded using the catalog resolver. The CLI version now

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: PHPSurveyor is a set of PHP scripts that interact with MySQL to
develop surveys, publish surveys, and collect responses to surveys. Once a
survey has been created there are (currently) two ways to insert data into
the survey: either by a 'pretty' public screen which presents each
question one at a time, or by a quick and nasty data entry screen. It
includes the capacity to generate individualised 'tokens', so that
invitations can be issued to participants, which allows for good quality
control of surveys. It also has the capacity to set conditions on whether
questions will display (branching), numerous question types, and a basic
statistics function.

Changes: MySQL 5 compatibility, relaying of emails through an SMTP server,
and a global option to set the repeating of question headings. The date is
now saved instead of a "Y" when a survey is sent/taken. Slovenian, Dutch,
French, Spanish, and Russian language files were updated and Croatian,
Japanese, Greek, Romanian, and Swedish were added.

[057] - Streamline 1.6.1
  by Willem de Bruijn (http://freshmeat.net/users/wdebruij/)
  Tue, May 30th 2006 21:34

System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: Streamline is a stream-based networking subsystem for Linux that
spans from hardware to userspace to offer high-speed communication paths
tailored to individual applications. It transparently supports specialized
hardware resources and in-kernel processing through safe functional units.
The base system comes bundled with functions for pattern matching (Aho
Corasick, RegEx), accounting, selection (BPF and FPL), stream reassembly,
and more. Applications can request graphs of functions to preprocess their
data. Obvious uses are intrusion detection, network address translation,
and media streaming.

Changes: This release bundles some minor feature enhancements and
bugfixes. The GUI application was enabled. A sparc-solaris-userspace
target environment was added. Big-endian ARM Linux was fixed up. In terms
of bugfixes, we cleaned up the makefiles and scripts to report fewer
non-critical errors, and removed some compiler warnings. Some other
bugfixes were also made.

[059] - Stunnix Advanced Web Server 1.3

  Tue, May 30th 2006 11:56

Information Management :: Document Repositories
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: Stunnix Advanced Web Server is a Web server for putting Web sites
onto CDROMs, DVDs, FlashDisks, and other readonly media to be used on any
typical system. Sites can be scripted with PHP or Perl and can be driven
by MySQL or SQLite databases. All required software programs are designed
to reside on the CDROM to avoid the need to install software on the user's
computer. The Web serving core is based on Apache 1.3.x, and has additional
functionality to detect and use free ports, automatically start a browser
on each platform, and to stop the Web server once a resource with a
special name is visited. Desktop applications can also be created with it.

Changes: This version fixes a severe bug with copying of database files
from CDs to the HDD. The Web site splash screen stays on the screen until
the database server, Web server, and browser are started. A sample
Joomla-based site has been added to the trial CD, as well as a guide on
how to install Joomla from scratch. CDBuilder has tooltips for most form
controls.

[060] - Suite-C Web 20060530
  by Jason Turner (http://freshmeat.net/users/lefticus/)
  Tue, May 30th 2006 07:13

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Religion

About: Suite-C Web is a collection of modules for Drupal that allow a
church to manage itself and communicate with its memebers. It currently
consists of a PrayerRequests module, which lets Web site visitors submit
prayer requests and later mark requests as "answered" (or no longer
relevant), which filters the request from the list of current prayer
requests. Prayer requests can be marked as for the pastor's eyes only, for
private requests. It also contains a module for making announcements about
upcoming events.

Changes: A major bug in the last release which prevented the PrayerRequest
module from working was fixed. A "for pastor only" prayer request option
was also added. PrayerRequests with this option set are only viewable by
users with the "view pastor only prayer requests" permission.

alter or reuse content while keeping its integrity intact. It lets you
collaborate on compound documents that contain embedded data from various
sources. Content is viewed as an integrated whole that is intuitively
transparent to authors.

Changes: This long-awaited version brings a number of major enhancements
and new features, such as a ContentMap that allows easy and precise
navigation in the document, direct element manipulation, and profiled
views. Element Help now shows help for elements and attributes (available
from the main window and from element and attribute dialogs). Drag & drop

[069] - WordGenerator 1.4
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Tue, May 30th 2006 00:08

Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: WordGenerator generates hypothetical words from specifications of
their syllable structure. The user specifies the maximum length of the
words in syllables, the abstract structure of syllables in the language
(in terms of such units as consonants and vowels or onsets and rhymes),
and the actual sounds that comprise each abstract class (e.g. the list of
vowels in the language); WordGenerator then generates the words that
conform to this specification. Such lists are useful to field linguists
exploring the vocabulary of a language, and to designers of artificial
languages.

Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Display

About: ZoneMinder is a suite of applications intended for use in video
camera security applications, including theft prevention and child or
family member monitoring. It supports capture, analysis, recording, and
monitoring of video data coming from one or more video or network cameras
attached to a Linux system. It also features a user-friendly Web interface
which allows viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies
captured by the cameras. The image analysis system is highly configurable,
permitting retention of specific events, while eliminating false positives.
ZoneMinder supports both directly connected and network cameras and is
built around the definition of a set of individual 'zones' of varying
sensitivity and functionality for each camera. This allows the elimination
of regions which should be ignored or the definition of areas which will
alarm if various thresholds are exceeded in conjunction with other zones.
All management, control, and other functions are supported through the Web
interface.

Changes: A large number of fixes were made and some minor new features
were added, including support for Big5 Chinese.
