It is very simple to install and use ARSC. It includes some important
features, such as operators, kick-ing, whispering, and more. Multiple
rooms and different languages are available. To run ARSC on your site, you
need a Web server that understands PHP, and can connect to a MySQL
database.

Changes: A bug that broke the installation routine was fixed.

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers

About: AXIGEN is a fast, reliable and secure mail server with an open
architecture. It is designed for easy management and allows full control
of the email traffic from a central Web/CLI admin module. AXIGEN provides
ESMTP, IMAP, and POP3 services and has been tested with standard mail
clients. A special Webmail module enables email access and delivery from
Web browsers. During the evaluation period, users are provided with full
technical support.

Changes: Forwarders were implemented. A generic filtering connector was
implemented, ensuring communication with external antivirus and antispam
applications based on an internal filtering language (AFSL). Socket (AFSL
based) and script (SIEVE) filters are now available at the server, domain,
and account levels. The SIEVE Vacation feature was implemented for
out-of-office replies. Automatic migration of domain data using WebAdmin
was enabled. The QUOTA extension for IMAP was implemented. An HTML
Generator internal extension was implemented for Webmail, which parses
HTML code from email messages and generates safer and cleaner HTML code.

[007] - Biferno 1.3
  by Valerio Ferrucci (http://freshmeat.net/users/valfer/)
  Tue, May 2nd 2006 07:32

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Biferno is a new generation object-oriented Web scripting language
that allows developers the rapid implementation of dynamic Web applications
and of sites that offer a high degree of user interactivity. It is
implemented as a Web server add-on module that allows dynamic generation
of HTML pages; the result of the processing of the Biferno code by the
server determines the page content. A Biferno script is a server-side
script. It is also an "HTML-embedded" language: scripts can be written in
pure Biferno language, but can also contain HTML code segments between
Biferno code blocks. Extensive documentation for the language and the
runtime system is available.

Changes: Enhancements in this version include 64-bit Linux and IPv6
compatibility, an Apache 2.2 module, a new class to obtain a stack
description (StackItem), a Mac OS X Cocoa System Preference panel, a new
customizable debug error page, multiple email notifications on error, and
better formatted log files. A forum was added to the Tabasoft Web site.

  Tue, May 2nd 2006 02:45

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: CodeWorker is a versatile parsing tool and a universal source code
generator. It interprets a scripting language for producing reusable,
tailor-made, evolving, and reliable IT systems with a high level of
automation. The file formats to parse are described in an extended-BNF
syntax. Template-based scripts drive the writing of patterns for
generating code or text. The code generation knows how to preserve
protected areas with hand-typed code and provides code expansion,
source-to-source translation, and program transformation. It provides a
native translation of CodeWorker's scripts in C++.

Changes: Concepts of Aspect-Oriented Programming were added to code
generation with joint points, advices, and point cuts. It allows a better
separation of concerns inside a code generation process, leading to
improved reading and maintenance of large and complex template-based
scripts. A new BNF directive was added: #readPythonString. Some bugfixes
and updates were made in the Eclipse plugin.

  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Tue, May 2nd 2006 06:40

Multimedia :: Graphics
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: ColorExplorer is a tool for exploring the color space and finding
out how colors, color names, and numerical color specifications are
related. The user can specify a color by selecting its name from a list of
color names, by adjusting sliders that control the mixture of red, green,
and blue, or by entering a numerical color specification. The numerical
specification of the current color and an example of that color are shown
in a pair of adjacent boxes. The color name list may be searched by
entering a regular expression or by requesting the closest match to the
current numerical color specification. A random color may also be
generated.

Changes: The option of using HTML/CSS values for color names has been
added. Color names are now listed alphabetically.

About: DACS provides enhanced access control and authentication
functionality for Apache. In addition to being a federated identity
management system (single sign-on), DACS can also be run as a command by
any program or script to make data-driven access control decisions rather
than code-driven ones.

Changes: This is primarily a bugfix and minor enhancements release. New
features include the ability to authenticate against Apache htpasswd and
htdbm files using any DACS password-oriented authentication module; a DACS
implementation of RFC 2617 HTTP Basic Authentication supporting
authentication by any password-oriented DACS authentication module; a DACS
implementation of RFC 2617 HTTP Digest Authentication for authenticating
against Apache htdigest files; and built-in versions of authentication
modules can be selected.

[015] - Damn Small Linux Not 0.1RC1
  by damnsmalllinux (http://freshmeat.net/users/damnsmalllinux/)
  Tue, May 2nd 2006 02:42

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers :: Fluxbox

About: Damn Small Linux Not is a desktop oriented Linux distribution based
on Damn Small Linux. It uses a modern 2.6 Kernel and GTK 2 applications,
but like Damn Small Linux, it strives to be compact yet user friendly. It
will run well on systems of 300MHz with 64 MB of RAM or greater.

Changes: This release added missing triangles in the Fluxbox menu and the
missing kbdconfig from dslpanel, fixed missing buttons in emelfm, fixed a
bug in mydsl-load with .dsl extensions, included a new boot logo screen,
and addressed printing issues and password setup. The distribution now
checks that CUPS is started when selecting the Printer Setup button, and
prompts to persist printer setup by automatically adding CUPS-related
files to the backup control file .filetool.lst upon shutdown. The fluxbox
menu was adjusted slightly. .mplayer and .naim were updated in the home
directory.

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: Java Parallel Processing Framework is a set of tools and APIs to
facilitate the parallelization of CPU intensive applications, and
distribute their execution over a network of heterogenous nodes. It is
intended to run in clusters and grids. It features platform independence
thanks to Java 1.5, does not require you to deploy your application
classes to a server, scales up to thousands of nodes, has a built-in
fail-over mechanism on all the framework's components, and has a
monitoring and administration GUI tool to enable remote monitoring of the
server health and server shutdown/restart operations.

Changes: A multithreading capability was added to the nodes, so they can
execute multiple tasks concurrently. Various network IO-related issues
that made the server unstable were fixed. Exception handling was fixed in
the nodes; exceptions are now reported back with the tasks. A new
packaging of a node as a screensaver was added. This package is
experimental and currently only for Windows.

  Tue, May 2nd 2006 06:43

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering

About: JGraph is a free, mature, and robust Java Graphing framework that
fully complies with Swing design principles. It contains all the graph
visualization and interaction functionality you might expect in a graph
library, including multiple views, layering, zoom, drag and drop, undo,
automatic expanding and collapsing, routing, and layouts. You can create
stunning workflow editors, call graphs, CAD tools, network diagrams,
database visualization tools, and more. It can also be deployed on the
server-side with a large range of image exporting functionality. It is
fully documented and commercially supported.

Changes: Serialization of the WeakHashMap in the GraphLayoutCache has been
resolved by adding custom write and read methods. Scaling the graph is now
centered correctly, and a new setScale method is available to zoom to a
custom point. The edgeLabelMovable switch was added to the JGraph class to
allow dragging of edge labels to be optionally disabled. There were a
number of other minor bugfixes.

[032] - Jhead 2.6
  by Moritz Barsnick (http://freshmeat.net/users/barsnick/)
  Tue, May 2nd 2006 02:51

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: Jhead is a command line driven utility for extracting digital
camera settings from the Exif format files used by many digital cameras.
It handles the various confusing ways these can be expressed, and displays
them as F-stop, shutter speed, etc. It is also able to reduce the size of
digital camera JPEGs without loss of information, by deleting integral
thumbnails that digital cameras put into the Exif header. If you need to
add Exif support to a program, this is a simple program to cut and paste
from. Many projects, including PHP, have reused code from this utility.

Changes: A typecast issue with GCC 4 and display of long shutter speeds
with '-c' were fixed. Auto-rotation of files with whitespace in their
names was fixed. The handling of corrupt EXIF linkages in EXIF headers was
improved. A '-a' option for renaming associated files was added.

About: KLone is a fully-featured, multi-platform framework which allows
dynamic Web pages to be written in C/C++ (with the usual <% code %>
style). The pages can then be embedded (in compressed and/or encrypted
form) into a single executable that also contains KLone's high-performance
HTTP/S server. Given its nature, it can be linked natively to any C/C++
library (database, XML, graphics, etc.), without an intermediate layer,
and it is especially suited for low-resource (embedded) systems.

  Tue, May 2nd 2006 07:17

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Video

About: The media hive is a streaming media server and Web-based
content/playlist manager. It emphasizes usability by making it easy to
manage a media catalog that contains multiple media types (mp3, mpg, avi,
etc.), and by providing a very full-featured playlist. It also emphasizes
extensibility by making it easy to develop new media parsers, playlist
actions, event handlers, skins, and more. It has an entire custom tag
library devoted to skin development, making it simple for the
non-developer to create radically different Web-based user interfaces. It
has no installation dependencies and runs on multiple platforms.

Changes: This release adds a new Web interface called Glow that is
designed to streamline the navigation of very large media catalogs. This
DHTML/AJAX-based skin features incremental search that works by hovering
the mouse pointer over catalog content. Comprehensive drag-and-drop
support allows catalog entries to be dragged into the playlist, and also
enables reordering of the playlist by dragging playlist entries. It is
compatible with Firefox, IE6, Safari, and Konqueror. An online demo is
available.

About: PTT helps users to analyze and understand correction and
performance problems for multi-threaded applications. It shows when a
program calls NPTL routines and when it exits from them, with details
about the internal mechanisms of the library. It is a post mortem
analysis; the trace can be analyzed once the application has stopped.
Three different trace formats are provided: a machine readable text
format, a human readable text format, and a graphical format. The
graphical format is obtained thanks to Pajé, an interactive visualization
tool.

Changes: PTT was fully integrated into the glibc. A patched glibc is
built, by default, with no modification (original glibc) or with PTT
support (using ./configure --with-ptt). glibc patches were provided for
versions 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 and 2.4. The PTT daemon and decoder sources were

About: Restlet is a framework that brings the simplicity and efficiency of
the REST architectural style to Java developers. It is composed of two
parts, the Restlet API (alternative to Servlet API) and a reference
implementation (Noelios Restlet Engine). It supports all REST concepts
(resource, representation, data, connector, components, etc.) and is
suitable for both client and server REST applications. The server
connectors provided are HTTP(S), AJP (via Mortbay's Jetty or an adapter
Servlet) and the client connectors are HTTP(S), JDBC, and SMTP(S).

Changes: The data package has been refactored to reduce usage of
interfaces and remove the need to use factories. A HostMaplet has been
added to detect all URIs related to a single host, such as equivalent
IP-based URIs. Support has been added for SMTP START TLS and SMTPS

  by rainer (http://freshmeat.net/users/rainer/)
  Tue, May 2nd 2006 06:35

Security

About: samhain is a daemon that can check file integrity, search the file
tree for SUID files, and detect kernel module rootkits (Linux only). It
can be used either standalone or as a client/server system for centralized
monitoring, with strong (192-bit AES) encryption for client/server
connections and the option to store databases and configuration files on
the server. For tamper resistance, it supports signed
database/configuration files and signed reports/audit logs. It has been
tested on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Unixware.

Changes: For files monitored under the GrowingLogfiles policy, the
checksum is now verified up to the previous size of the file. Also,
server-to-server relay of messages is possible now.

[058] - Storage3 1.0.1
  by apokalyptik (http://freshmeat.net/users/apokalyptik/)
  Tue, May 2nd 2006 15:59

About: Storage3 provides a single, easy to use interface for accessing The
Amazon's S3 (the Simple Storage Service) with PHP 5. It allows you to
create, delete, and list buckets (which are analogous to folders or
directories) and store, retrieve and delete objects (which are analogous
to files). Errors are presented in a convenient manner through the why()
method. It does not currently support anonymous access.

Changes: This release adds fileExists(), support for listing bucket files
for buckets with over 1,000 files, setACL(), support for setting an
object's ACL during the upload process, and storage of response headers
(which contain a lot of useful information). s3test.php now includes an
example of using headers to verify the integrity of a file stored in s3
via an md5 hash

[063] - WiKID Strong Authentication System 2.1.1-beta.build59
  by nowen (http://freshmeat.net/users/nowen/)
  Tue, May 2nd 2006 06:45

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: The WiKID Strong Authentication System is a highly scalable, secure
two-factor authentication system consisting of a server, a token client,
and network clients that connect a service such as a VPN or Web page to
the WiKID server to validate one-time passcodes. The user enters their PIN
into the token client, where it is encrypted and sent to the server. If the
PIN is correct, the encryption valid, and account active, the one-time
passcode is generated, encrypted, and returned to the user. It is simple
to implement and maintain, allows users to be validated automatically,
requires no hardware tokens, has a simple API for application support via
a COM object and Java component, supports multiple domains, and supports
replication for fault tolerance and scalability.

Changes: More bugfixes were made. The LDAP interface is working pretty
well.

of the most uncommon formats, too. All those features come in a reusable
library (xine-lib) which can easily be embedded in your applications.

Changes: Screensaver cooperation was improved. Support for playlist
formats was expanded. History was added to the MRL open box. The behavior
of the hidden video widget was improved. Translation bugs and several
possible hangs were fixed.

[066] - xsd 2.1.1
  by Boris Kolpackov (http://freshmeat.net/users/bosk/)
  Tue, May 2nd 2006 06:21

Software Development
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: xsd is a W3C XML Schema to C++ translator. Provided with an XML
instance description (XML Schema), it generates C++ classes that represent
the given vocabulary as well as parsing and serialization code. Compared to
APIs such as DOM and SAX, the generated code allows you to access the
information in XML instance documents using your domain vocabulary instead
of generic elements, attributes, and text. Static typing helps catch errors
at compile-time rather than at run-time. It features C++ standard
library-based language mappings, configurable base character type
(char/wchar_t), platform-independent generated code, comprehensive
documentation, and more.

Changes: A number of bugs have been fixed. A new option that allows
regex-less mapping of XML Schema namespaces to C++ namespaces has been
implemented. Code size has been reduced. Support for g++ 4.1.x has been
added.
