[001] - ++Skype library 0.75
  by Vitaly A. Repin (http://freshmeat.net/users/vitrepin/)
  Tue, Jan 17th 2006 08:49

Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Conferencing
Communications :: Internet Phone

About: ++Skype is a C++ library for skype add-on platform independent
software development. It is platform independent, easy to use, and easy to
extend because of the flexible library design, inspired by modern C++
design ideas. Performance is one of the goals: only compile-time
polymorphism is used.

Changes: Memory leaks inside Ice::SkypeObjManager were fixed. The loggers
were improved. The license was changed to the LGPL.

License: GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL)

[002] - /etc/net Configurator 0.0.7
  by Pilot (http://freshmeat.net/users/infrastation/)
  Tue, Jan 17th 2006 02:51

System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and a QoS configuration
framework. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
Ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, Pent@NET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be
added without overall design changes.

Changes: This release better matches the option set of /etc/net scripts
0.8.0.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The ADAPTIVE Communication Environment (ACE) is an object-oriented
(OO) C++ framework that can help you develop and deploy high-performance
software systems faster and better. ACE is especially useful for systems
that use network and/or inter-process communications and that take
advantage of multithreading. While the ACE source code is free, that's not
the only way you save money with ACE. ACE's wrappers and higher-level
patterns help you develop your software quickly and portably, helping you
to complete your projects on time and within budget.

Changes: This release adds support for AIX 5.3 using Visual Age 7.0.
Memory leaks pertaining to DII and the RTScheduling library have been
corrected. Compilation errors for certain CORBA configurations have been
fixed. Other minor bugfixes.

Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Software Development :: Bug Tracking

About: AgileTrack is an agile development planning and iteration tracking
tool. It assists in the creation and life-cycle of iterations, projects,
stories, tasks, and bugs. It is focused on simplicity and practicality.
Its interface is designed to be useful specifically for software
developers on small development teams with rapidly-changing priorities and
requirements. Its primary interface for developers is geared toward
availability, speed, and purpose. It is flexible and minimalistic with
respect to the data that is required for records. It is designed to be
compatible with agile development methodologies, particularly Extreme
Programming.

Changes: This release is primarily intended to improve the Linux
distribution of the tool. The minimal distribution should now be usable
with local installations of Java. The install scripts should take care of
determining the Java installation location. The initial window position
should be working correctly now, and toggling the window frame should be
functioning better. Also, password setting has been fixed, and MySQL 5
database support was fixed.

About: BongoSurfer is a least-cost router for Linux, like the Smartsurfer
program for Windows. It allows you to connect to the Internet with a 56k
modem or ISDN, and chooses the cheapest provider for you. The tariff
database is updated every day from http://www.billiger-surfen.de/. Since
the tariffs only apply within Germany, the program is of little use in
other countries. It features a cost calculator, a traffic monitor, an
online timer, and more.

Changes: A bug in which the tariff-list disappeared was corrected. The
code was compiled with Java 1.5. Archives are now smaller. The program

[014] - BusyBox 1.1.0
  by Michael Opdenacker (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelo/)
  Tue, Jan 17th 2006 08:47

Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Boot :: Init

About: BusyBox combines tiny versions of many common UNIX utilities into a
single small executable. It provides minimalist replacements for most of
the utilities you usually find in GNU fileutils, shellutils, etc. The
utilities in BusyBox generally have fewer options than their full-featured
GNU cousins; however, the options that are included provide the expected
functionality and behave very much like their GNU counterparts. BusyBox
provides a fairly complete POSIX environment for any small or embedded
system.

Changes: New applet options and new applets were added: nice, nohup,
printenv, stat, sum, setconsole, e2fsprogs (several executables),
bbconfig (dumps the busybox config), eject, less, mountpoint, runlevel,
setsid, ether- wake, fakeidentd, zcip (for zeroconf), fuser, ipcrm, ipcs,
switch_root (for initramfs), mdev (mini-udev),  switch_root (for
initramfs), readprofile.

About: C (pronounced large-C) is a pseudo-interpreter of the C programming
language. Without the need of manual compilation, developers can rapidly
create cross-platform scripts or write one-liners using the C/C++
programming language that run at native code speed.

Changes: The program was rewritten in C. It now supports C++ and caches
compiled binaries. Often-used scripts run much faster than in previous
versions.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Command Line Content Management System (clcms, pronounced
"clickmas") is not a dynamic CMS, but a script that takes a source tree
and creates a Web site out of it. The most important design goals are:
Updates should be possible with a terminal and an editor, content is
stored in a directory tree, and there's no need for writing HTML, XML, or
the like for normal usage.

Changes: Macros can now have arguments. The default macros are now
lowercase. Scripts now support command line arguments for overriding and

[021] - Cook 2.26
  by Peter Miller (http://freshmeat.net/users/pmiller/)
  Tue, Jan 17th 2006 07:52

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: Cook is a tool for constructing files. It is given a set of files
to create, and recipes of how to create them. In any non-trivial program
there will be prerequisites to performing the actions necessary to
creating any file, such as include files. Cook provides a mechanism to
define these. When a program is being developed or maintained, the
programmer will typically change one file of several which comprise the
program. Cook examines the last-modified times of the files to see when
the prerequisites of a file have changed, implying that the file needs to
be recreated as it is logically out of date.

Changes: A number of build problems have been fixed. A bug has been fixed
in the tell-position flag; it wasn't actually giving the file name and
line number when executing commands if you used the "set tell-position"
variants, only the -tell-position command line option. A bug has been
fixed in the "cook -fp-update" command, it would segfault in some cases.
A bug has been fixed in the cookbook include file processing. A bug has
been fixed in the negative flag setting (comamnd line options and "set"
clauses). The find_command program now copes better with directories it
is not allowed to access.

About: djmount is a UPnP AV client. It mounts the media content of
compatible UPnP AV devices as a Linux filesystem (using FUSE). The audio
and video content on the network is automatically discovered, and can be
browsed as a standard directory tree. djmount should work with any UPnP AV
compliant devices or software servers. Currently tested devices include
TwonkyVision UPnP Music Server on Linux, GMediaServer on Linux, GeeXboX
uShare on Linux, Ahead Nero MediaHome Server, and Microsoft Windows Media
Connect.

Changes: A major bug causing an empty "browse" on some types of UPnP AV
servers, such as AV Media Server in Intel Tools for UPnP Technologies, was
fixed. This media server now works with djmount. It has also been tested
with the following media servers: TwonkyVision UPnP Music Server 3.0,
GMediaServer 0.9.0, and GeeXboX uShare 0.9.5.

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3

About: Dovecot is an IMAP server whose major goals are security and
extreme reliability. It uses index files to optimally store the mailbox
state, which makes it very fast even with huge mailboxes. Indexes won't
prevent external mailbox updates, so Dovecot is still fully compatible
with standard Maildir and mbox formats. There's also a fully featured POP3
server included.

Changes: The server was almost completely rewritten.

[026] - Extended Python Debugger 0.10
  by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
  Tue, Jan 17th 2006 01:00

Software Development :: Debuggers

About: Extended Python Debugger is a (slightly) more complete debugger for
Python than the stock pdb.py debugger. It supports a "restart" command and
stack traces that show fewer ?'s and give better information for exec
statements. Stepping/nexting skips over method/function "defs". It tries
to follow gdb's command set unless there is good reason not to.

Changes: This release added run (restart) and Perl's "examine" command.
gdb's "frame" command is now supported. The following gdb or gdb-like
"set"/"show" commands were added: args, listsize, version, and dialect.
Some gdb-like "info" commands were added: args, break, line, and locals.
"up"/"down" commands can now take a number of frames to move. Stepping
skips over "def" statements.

  Tue, Jan 17th 2006 06:52

About: Geolog is a Perl script (and Windows executable) that you can use
to download all the information from the geocaching Web site
geocaching.com about your own caches, your found caches, and the ones you
missed. It also works incrementally, so after having initially downloaded
everything, the next time only the new caches will be downloaded. The
scripts works under Linux/Unix as well as under Windows (using
ActivePerl). You can also generate HTML pages from the downloaded
information in a rather flexible way by using templates.

Changes: The installation process has been simplified. The basic program
parameters determined during the setup phase can be interactively
modified. The status of all caches is checked every other week and
displayed on the summary pages. The program now checks whether a new
version has been made available on the download servers.

About: KPowersave provides battery monitoring and suspend/ standby
triggers for KDE. It is based on the powersave package and therefore
supports APM and ACPI.

Changes: This release needs powersave 0.11.5 or higher to run. With this
release scheme, specific brightness settings were added to KPowersave and
the configure dialog. Set brightness depends on the capabilities of the
hardware and may not be not available (currently, the generic ACPI video
module is not supported by powersave). This release contains a new warning
message if switching to the experimental 'Advanced Powersave' scheme. Also
included are some translation and documentation updates and gcc fixes.

Games/Entertainment :: Turn Based Strategy

About: LGeneral is a turn-based strategy engine heavily inspired by Panzer
General. Move your units each turn and attack your enemies in order to
capture strategic objectives to win a battle. LGeneral uses the SDL
library for graphics and sounds.

Changes: This release features full briefing for all in-campaign
scenarios, path selection in the PG campaign, and a complete update of
the German translation. Furthermore, the danger mask now takes into
account the fact that aircraft with fuel 0 but on a supply hex will not
crash but refuel. The Allied does not have a deploy turn in "Market
Garden" (since this would destroy the idea of the scenario). Various
memory leaks were fixed, the largest causing around 30MB of leakage.

  Tue, Jan 17th 2006 00:27

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Diagnostics
System :: Logging

About: Libsmbios is a cross-platform library intended to be used to obtain
common information available in a BIOS. Major features include the ability
to update the BIOS on Dell systems (in conjunction with the Dell RBU Linux
kernel driver), programmatic access to information in SMBIOS tables, and
the ability to obtain Dell system-specific information such as the Dell
System ID number, service tag, and asset tag. Future plans include APIs
for $PIR and mptable mapping. There is a C API for some of the more
commonly used functions, and example binaries to show off most of the
facilities.

Changes: dellBiosUpdate command line parsing now has better validation and
better error messages for invalid usage. A much improved extract_hdr
program that can extract BIOS images from several new types of BIOS
executables was provided. It can optionally use wine (if available) to
extract some BIOS images that were previously unavailable. A overhaul of
the C++ API was started to simplify the class interface and move some
member functions to non-member functions. The C API remains stable and
backwards/forwards compatible.

  Tue, Jan 17th 2006 08:55

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Video

About: The media hive is a streaming media server and Web-based
content/playlist manager. It emphasizes usability by making it easy to
manage a media catalog that contains multiple media types (mp3, mpg, avi,
etc.), and by providing a very full-featured playlist. It also emphasizes
extensibility by making it easy to develop new media parsers, playlist
actions, event handlers, skins, and more. It has an entire custom tag
library devoted to skin development, making it simple for the
non-developer to create radically different Web-based user interfaces. It
has no installation dependencies and runs on multiple platforms.

Changes: Search capability was added to the catalog. The playlist now
supports shuffle and repeat modes. The Snowblind reference skin now takes
full advantage of AJAX, and is compatible with IE 6 as well as Firefox.
The catalog now persists between executions, and supports background
reloading and zero-wait startup. Snowblind skin is now fully documented.
Numerous bugfixes were made.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: ModSecurity is an intrusion detection and prevention engine for Web
applications (sometimes called a Web application firewall). Operating
embedded or as part of an Apache reverse proxy, it increases Web
application security, protecting Web applications from known and unknown
attacks. It is flexible and easy to configure. It monitors HTTP traffic
(including POST payloads), detects or prevents attacks, enhances logging,
performs anti-evasion, and allows administrators to create custom rules to
suit their specific needs. It excels in HTTP traffic monitoring and
just-in-time vulnerability patching.

Changes: This release can be compiled against the PCRE regex library
(Apache 1.3.x only; Apache 2.x already uses PCRE), resulting in a large
performance increase. It can also be compiled not to use suEXEC for
process creation. There are some concurrent audit logging improvements. A
new proof-of-concept script for real-time audit log centralisation. Many
smaller bugfixes and improvements throughout.

Text Processing :: Linguistic
Utilities

About: Msort is a program for sorting files in sophisticated ways. Records
need not be single lines. Key fields may be selected by position, tag, or
character range. For each key, distinct exclusions, multigraphs,
substitutions. and a sort order may be defined. Comparisons may be
lexicographic, numeric, by string length, date, or time. Optional keys are
supported. Msort uses the Unicode character set and provides full Unicode
case-folding. The basic program has a somewhat complex command line
interface, but may be driven by an optional GUI.

Changes: A bug was fixed in which msort crashed if given a very long
numeric string as a key. Numeric keys are now checked for well-formedness
and for internal representability. There are also some small improvements
in the GUI and documentation.

About: Quod Libet is a music library management program. Rather than
categorize songs by genre, artist, and album, it lets you search and
display them however you want. It supports regexp-based searches, album
cover display, tag editing, ReplayGain, multimedia keys, and an OSD. Also
included is Ex Falso, a tag editor that has the same editing features
found in Quod Libet, but does not play audio files.

Changes: The Information dialog can now retrieve lyrics. FLAC support no
longer has external dependencies. A ~year synthetic tag is now generated
from the date tag. Plugins can now be written for the tag editing dialog.
More audio feeds will load. --enqueue, --song-list, and --queue allow more
command line control. A Korean translation was added.

Internet
System :: Networking

About: Radiator is a radius server that is flexible, extensible, and
authenticates from a huge range of auth methods, including Wireless, TLS,
TTLS, PEAP, SQL, proxy, DBM, files, LDAP, NIS+, password, NT SAM, Emerald,
Platypus, Freeside, TACACS+, PAM, external, OPIE, POP3, EAP, and Active
Directory. It runs on Unix, Linux, Solaris, Win95/98/NT/XP/2000/2003,
MacOS 9, MacOS X, VMS, and more.

Changes: A number of significant new features were added, including
DNSROAM, which provides RadSec and RADIUS proxying to hosts discovered
through DNS. This provides secure, reliable, scalable, low maintenance
RADIUS meshes and federations using similar technology to Diameter (RFC
3588) for host discovery. It also added a new AuthBy NTLM module that
allows Radiator running on a Linux or Unix system to authenticate to a
Windows domain controller with the assistance of ntlm_auth and winbindd
utilities from the Samba suite. A number of fixes were also included.

[097] - Stunnix JavaScript Obfuscator and Encoder 3.1
  by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
  Tue, Jan 17th 2006 14:22

Internet
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers

About: Stunnix JS-Obfus protects your JavaScript code from potential
analyzing/studying/reworking by unwanted parties. It's both an obfuscator
and encoder for the JavaScript/JScript source code. It converts the
JavaScript/JScript source files into highly mangled and obfuscated form,
making it extremely difficult to study, analyse, reuse, and re-work for
competitors or customers, while fully retaining functionality of the
original source code, and then encodes it afterwards, making it completely
unreadable. There are a lot of options to control all aspects of code
hiding, and full support for all syntax constructs. It is designed to be
multi-module aware.

Changes: This release implements a new algorithm for encoding JavaScript
code; code encoded with it self-decodes much faster than code encoded with
the previous version of the algorithm. The default browser is used for the
Web-based GUI on Windows, instead of always using MSIE. Some bugs have
been fixed.

About: X10 is a type-safe, modern, parallel, distributed object-oriented
language intended to be very easily accessible to Java programmers. It is
targeted to future low-end and high-end systems with nodes that are built
out of multi-core SMP chips with non-uniform memory hierarchies, and
interconnected in scalable cluster configurations. X10 highlights the
explicit reification of locality in the form of places; lightweight
activities embodied in async, future, foreach, and ateach constructs;
constructs for termination detection and phased computation; the use of
lock-free synchronization; and the manipulation of global arrays and data
structures.

Changes: This release adds support for all X10 synchronization constructs
(clocks, atomics, conditional atomics, finish, and await). Support for
assert, pre-, and post- increments on array accesses was added. Lazy
evaluation is now used for boolean expressions. The run-time library was

About: xsd is a W3C XML Schema to C++ translator. Provided with an XML
instance description (XML Schema), it generates C++ classes that represent
the given vocabulary as well as parsing and serialization code. Compared to
APIs such as DOM and SAX, the generated code allows you to access the
information in XML instance documents using your domain vocabulary instead
of generic elements, attributes, and text. Static typing helps catch errors
at compile-time rather than at run-time. It features C++ standard
library-based language mappings, configurable base character type
(char/wchar_t), platform-independent generated code, comprehensive
documentation, and more.

Changes: Sun C++ 5.8 (Studio 11) and Microsoft Visual C++ 8  (Visual
Studio 2005) are now supported. Support for default and fixed values has
been added for C++/Tree mapping. Mapping for base64Binary and hexBinary
