About: ADODB is a set of advanced PHP database abstraction classes. It
supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, Interbase/Firebird, Informix, Sybase SQL
Anywhere, Oracle, MS SQL 7 and 2000, SAP DB, Sybase, DB2, FrontBase,
Foxpro, Access, Netezza, LDAP, ODBTP, ADO, and generic ODBC. A metatype
system is built in, making it possible to figure out that types such as
CHAR, TEXT, and STRING are equivalent in different databases. It also
features portable database creation, database-backed session support (with
encryption), SQL performance monitoring, and database health checks.

Changes: Fixes to PostgreSQL drivers to support PHP 5.1, partial PDO
support, support for PHP 5.1, PHP 5 compatibility for mysqli, and many PDO
improvements. A spelling error has been fixed in the MySQL MetaForeignKeys
$associative parameter. MetaForeignKeys was repeated twice and the
MYSQLI_BINARY_FLAG was missing. PHP 5.1 support for PostgreSQL bind
parameters using ? now works.

About: Amber for Parrot is an object-oriented scripting language for the
Parrot virtual machine. It combines the traditional advantages of
scripting languages with support for software correctness and large-scale
software engineering. Amber for Parrot has syntax and semantics somewhere
between those of Eiffel and Ruby.

Changes: This release implements the "old" keyword, tweaks the precedence
of unary plus and minus, and implements square-bracket indexing for Hash
and Array, plus outer lexicals for AGENTs. It enhances the "inspect"
instruction and adds the Ackermann benchmark.

Software Development :: Build Tools

About: The aim of the Ant4eclipse project is to avoid redundancy of
Eclipse and Ant configurations in order to build small but powerful build
systems for the continuous integration process. It provides a set of tasks
for the Apache Ant build tool. This tasks allow developers to use Eclipse
configuration directly from their ant buildfiles. Included are tasks for
reading Eclipse's .classpath file, for computing build order for a set of
projects, and for launching Java applications as defined in Eclipse launch
configurations.

Changes: This release has "getSourcepath" and "getOutputpath" tasks to
determine a project's folder structure, "getReferencedProjects" to get a
list of projects your project references, and a "userLibraries" Ant type
for resolving Eclipse container variables. getBuildOrder can now compute
the build order for a list of files specified as Property.

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS
Software Development :: Version Control :: Subversion

About: Antmod is a build management, release management, and repository
management tool. Its implementation is an Ant-based extensible engine
for retrieving, versioning, building, and deploying code to and from
Subversion or CVS. It standardizes build files for Java projects and
provides build plugins for various tasks. It also standardizes tagging
and branching for both CVS and Subversion, and its module and repository
management can also be used for non-Java projects. It greatly speeds up
Java software development, promotes reuse of Java software, and
standardizes the build-test- release cycle.

Changes: This release contains an out-of-the-box War plugin for building
Web applications, enhancements to various other plugins, and improved CVS
repository support. It is recommended for all current users.

  Tue, Dec 20th 2005 12:00

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Campsite is a multilingual content management system (CMS) for news
Web sites. Campsite's user interface was built with the end user
(journalist, editor, publisher) in mind, and it can be configured to suit
different profiles of end users. Campsite follows the print-newspaper
publishing paradigm, so it structures sites by default as Publications >
Issues > Sections > Articles. Campsite works best for medium-to-large-size
online news publications, but it is capable of handling nimbler sites too.

Changes: This release adds the ability to attach files to articles. The
article screens have been redesigned for ease of use. There is now an API
to create plugins or alternative interfaces. The navigation has been
redesigned to look better and be easier to use. The WYSIWYG editor has
been fixed to work in Firefox 1.5. There are many interface improvements.

  Tue, Dec 20th 2005 11:37

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: This release automatically generates Perl and Python
dependencies, both provides and requires, when building packages. It does
not yet enforce the new dependencies, in order to give time to rebuild
packages to deploy them. The repository server now falls back to anonymous
access when user/password access fails. There are several improvements to
the update and display code.

PSK+XAUTH VPN setups in what could be described as a semi-MitM attack.
Basically, knowing the pre-shared key, also known as shared secret or
group password, the VPN gateway can be impersonated in IKE phase 1, in
order to learn XAUTH user credentials in phase 2. The configuration
supported by fiked is IKE aggressive mode using pre-shared keys and XAUTH.
Supported algorithms are DES, 3DES, AES128, AES192, AES256, MD5, SHA1, and
DH groups 1, 2, and 5. Main mode is not supported.

[022] - Fedora Directory Server 1.0.1
  by Rich Megginson (http://freshmeat.net/users/richm31415/)
  Tue, Dec 20th 2005 11:34

About: Fedora Directory Server is a full-featured LDAPv3 compliant server.
In addition to the standard LDAPv3 operations, it supports multi-master
replication, fully online configuration and administration, chaining,
virtual attributes, access control directives in the data, Virtual List
View, server-side sorting, SASL, TLS/SSL, and many other features. The
transactional Berkeley DB 4.2 is used as its data store and a full plug-in
API allows developers to extend the the functionality of the server in many
ways, and many of the core features of the server are already implemented
using this API. The server is very mature, having started out as Netscape
Directory Server.

Changes: Version 1.0 was built with the build bomb on, which means the
binary will quit working after 120 days. The Admin Server in 1.0 could
allow unauthorized access to sensitive information. The console required
the mozilla-nspr and mozilla-nss packages. This dependency has been
removed. If you are using 1.0, you should upgrade immediately.

  Tue, Dec 20th 2005 17:08

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Filesystems

About: libferris is a virtual filesystem that exposes hierarchical data of
all kinds through a common C++ interface. Access to data is performed using
C++ IOStreams and Extended Attributes (EA) can be attached to each file or
directory to present metadata. Ferris uses a plugin API to read various
data sources and expose them as filesystems and to generate interesting
EA. Current implementations include native (kernel disk IO with event
updates using fam), XML (mount an XML file as a filesystem), DB4, xmldb,
LDAP, HTTP, FTP, eet, sockets, RDF/XML, RDF/bdb, and mbox. EA generators
include image, audio, and animation decoders.

Changes: The ability to mount Emacs (see FAQ). Bugfixes in XPath2 support.
Improved copy-to-self test in ferriscp for strange URLs. Automount to find
EA has been disabled by default for tar files, because it was slow and
most tar files do not contain EA. GTKTreeStore model improvements.

  Tue, Dec 20th 2005 06:18

Security
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: Linux-VServer allows you to create virtual private servers and
security contexts which operate like a normal Linux server, but allow many
independent servers to be run simultaneously in one box at full speed. All
services, such as ssh, mail, Web, and databases, can be started on such a
VPS, without modification, just like on any real server. Each virtual
server has its own user account database and root password and doesn't
interfere with other virtual servers.

Changes: This release brings a bunch of new features like bind mount
extensions (which give you read-only --bind mounts), copy on write link
breaking (which allows you to unify all files, even log or config files),
quota hashes, and XID propagation. It also adds per context I/O scheduling

  Tue, Dec 20th 2005 04:06

Software Development :: Compilers

About: Scriptol is an object oriented programming language designed to
deliver the programmer from hardware or software constraints and let him
or her concentrate only on the problem to formulate as a program. It is
universal, and allows building dynamic Web pages (with PHP as the
backend), writing scripts, and building binary applications. It is
compatible with Java and C++ libraries. Examples of use with PHP, Java,
and GTK are included.

Changes: The compilers were separated into two archives.

[055] - Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations 26
  by Dennis Darland (http://freshmeat.net/users/djdarland/)
  Tue, Dec 20th 2005 11:58

About: SODE uses long Taylor series to solve systems of ordinary
differential equations. It generates code to solve the equations in either
Icon (or Unicon) or Maple. Using the Taylor series, estimates are made of
the location and order of poles. An effort is made to adjust H to control
the error. It has worked well in testing, but needs more testing as there
are so many possibilities. To solve STIFF equations, MAX_TERMS may be set.
Differentiation done automatically.

Changes: A missing ";" in the Maple version has been fixed, as well as
subscript out of bounds (which didn't affect the Icon version with the way
Icon handles it). Diffs in ode files (for Maple) of degree 0 to the
variable itself have been changed.

[059] - TreeLine 0.14.0
  by Doug Bell (http://freshmeat.net/users/Doug101/)
  Tue, Dec 20th 2005 06:20

Other/Nonlisted Topic

About: TreeLine is used to organize and store text data in a tree
structure. It is well suited to keeping track of many different types of
information. Each node of the tree can contain several defined fields,
forming a mini-database. The format of each node can be defined, and the
output can be shown on the screen, printed, or exported to HTML. The tree
structure is navigated and edited in the left pane of the window, while
various views of the child data are shown and editable in the right pane.
The data is stored in XML text files. TreeLine is based on the PyQt
library.

Changes: Data types can be set to derive their field settings from a
generic type. This allows types with different output formatting to always
use the same field data. Also, conditional expressions can be used to
automatically assign a data type based on each node's content. This allows
the automatic assignment of different output formatting or different icons
depending on each node's field data. Many other updates and bugfixes were
made.

[067] - Xarchiver 0.3
  by Giuseppe Torelli (http://freshmeat.net/users/gt67/)
  Tue, Dec 20th 2005 07:03

System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Archiving :: Packaging

About: Xarchiver is a GTK+ 2 frontend for manipulating arj, 7z, zip, rar,
tar, bzip2, gzip, and RPM files. It allows you to create archives and add,
extract, and delete files from them. Password protected archives in the
arj, 7z, rar, and zip formats are supported.

Changes: 7z and arj (also password protected) formats are supported. A
view ability was added for text files inside the archive, so no external
editor is needed. The size columns are treated as uint instead as string
so that sorting by size is possible now. The bottom window is now used for
reporting messages to the user. A progress bar that shows the archive's
operation progress was added. The zip password detection was greatly
improved; if a an archive contains 10 files and only the last one is
password protected, Xarchiver will detect it. (The same is true for arj.)

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio

About: XO Wave is a digital audio workstation which offers powerful
features and an intuitive cross platform user interface. It provides
simple yet powerful recording, editing, mixing, CD Burning, and scripting
(via the XML session file) as well as basic effects, including reverb,
compression, and EQ, and flexible real-time cross fades. The audio engine
is separate from the GUI, which allows for intelligent management of
background tasks and the ability to use separate machines for the
interface and for playback.

Changes: This release uses a completely rewritten version of PortAudio on
Mac OS X, which should greatly improve reliability and compatibility. It
includes a number of UI bugfixes and a fix for the compressor's peak/hold
mode, so that the compressor no longer holds the gain down forever.
