[001] - Armangil's podcatcher 1.2.0
  by doga (http://freshmeat.net/users/armangild/)
  Sun, Nov 6th 2005 14:06

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: News/Diary

About: Armangil's podcatcher is a podcast client for the command line. It
provides several download strategies, supports BitTorrent, offers cache
management, and generates playlists for MP3 player applications.

Changes: Support for RSS/Atom feeds as command line arguments. Support for
decentralized subscription lists, such as the iPodder podcast directory.
Support for extended M3U and extended PLS playlist formats. Support for
Atom feeds that do not list items in reverse chronological order. The -f
option, which puts an upper limit to the number of downloaded RSS/Atom
feeds. A "cache" strategy, which deprecates the -c option. A bug that
sometimes caused an invalid Referer header to be sent in HTTP requests has
been fixed.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: audiokonverter is a small utility to easily convert between OGG,
MP3, AAC, FLAC, and WAV files in Konqueror by right-clicking on them. It
can also extract audio from movies to any format. It needs oggenc, oggdec,
faac, faad, FLAC, MPlayer, and LAME to work. id3lib, metaflac, and
vorbis-tools are optional, but needed for full functionality.

Changes: Support for .m4a for iPod has been added. Some internal code
changes have been made.

[003] - Automated Argument Helper 1.0.2
  by Scott McKellar (http://freshmeat.net/users/mck9/)
  Sun, Nov 6th 2005 19:47

About: Aargh is a code generator written in C++. Based on specifications
defined in an XML file, it generates C++ code to parse a command line,
using the getopt() facility available in Unix, Linux, and similar
environments. It supports command line options with integer arguments,
string arguments, and no arguments. It optionally applies range tests to
validate the option arguments, or calls a user-defined validation
function. The generated code is commented and carefully indented for
readability.

Changes: This release changes the semantics of the new_argc() and
new_argv() functions in the generated code. Any application that uses
these functions will need (relatively minor) revision.

[005] - BlockHosts 1.0.3
  by Avinash Chopde (http://freshmeat.net/users/avinash1/)
  Sun, Nov 6th 2005 07:09

System :: Networking

About: BlockHosts is a script to record how many times "sshd" or "proftpd"
is attacked. When a particular IP address exceeds a configured number of
failed login attempts, that IP address is added to /etc/hosts.allow, with
the deny option. A check is also made for stale entries in hosts.allow,
and these will then be deleted.

Changes: Debian installs are now supported. The SSHD-Invalid rule accepts
log lines with the phrase "Illegal user" along with "Invalid user".

[030] - Ivman 0.6.5
  by Rohan (http://freshmeat.net/users/rohanpm/)
  Sun, Nov 6th 2005 19:44

System :: Hardware
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Ivman is a flexible userspace volume manager for Linux. Originally
an automounter, it can also be used to run arbitrary commands when certain
devices are added to or removed from the system, when properties on
existing devices change, or when devices emit conditions. Unlike
gnome-volume-manager, it runs from a console. It uses D-BUS and HAL to
listen for new devices, and uses pmount for mounting.

Changes: GNU gettext is now used for translation (no translations exist
yet). A bug causing the CheckOnInit option in IvmConfigProperties.xml to
not work has been fixed. Now allow mount/umount commands to be configured
(which means working without pmount is now supported). Better pmount/mount
detection (should now work with pmount-hal, pmount, or vanilla mount). A
few new minor configuration options are now available.

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Statist is a small and portable statistics program written in C. It
is terminal-based, but can utilise GNUplot for plotting purposes. It is
simple to use and can be run in scripts. Big datasets are handled
reasonably well on small machines.

Changes: The user no longer has to tell statist how many columns will be
chosen. This new behavior might break most scripts written for previous
versions of statist. If you are running statist under scripts, you should
either adapt your scripts or not upgrade to version 1.3.1. Statist can
deal with value labels and column titles: with the --labels option,
statist reads column and value labels from a file. The 60 columns limit
was eliminated. The "Preferences" menu item was added, so you can
customize some features while statist is running and save your new

About: The goal of tidydoc is to make documentation organization easier.
You can add documents to a pool of documents, give them the right names
and put them into the right directories, and generate a set of HTML pages
to browse your documents. A bibtex file can also be generated. It is
written in Python in the spirit of flexibility and easy tweaking, but with
default behaviors that fit the needs of most people. You can add documents
using most transmission protocols, such as a simple cp or through SSH with
SCP. Tidydoc then generates HTML or bibtex files indexing your documents. A
simple XML file is required for each document, including some information.
These description files may be generated by using tidydoc's upload
