Communications :: WAP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Anyterm provides a terminal emulator on a Web page using Javascript
and an Apache module. The module forks a shell and communicates with the
script using XMLHTTP on port 80, or securely using SSL. This provides you
with shell access to your machine from almost any Web browser, even when
firewalls are in the way. Experimental features include support for WAP
browsers and standalone operation without Apache, and the my.anyterm.org
service provides access without the need to install anything on your
servers.

Changes: This version made improvements to the standalone daemon,
including a new command-line parser and improved inter-thread
communication. There were also fixes to the build system, which made
compilation on FreeBSD easier.

  by jart (http://freshmeat.net/users/jart/)
  Tue, Nov 1st 2005 14:42

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: BFilter is a smart filtering HTTP proxy. It removes ads, webbugs,
and popups. Unlike the majority of similar tools, it doesn't rely on a
list of blocked URLs, but instead parses HTML on the fly, and detects ads
using a set of heuristic rules. BFilter has a built-in JavaScript engine
which detects popups and js-generated ads.

Changes: WebDAV is now supported. Tray icon animation can now be disabled.
Several bugs were fixed, including one that could cause pages to load very
slowly.

[011] - cpufreq daemon 2.0.0-pre2
  by mattia (http://freshmeat.net/users/mattia/)
  Tue, Nov 1st 2005 06:33

Utilities

About: cpufreqd is meant to be a replacement of the speedstep applet you
can find in Windows. It monitors battery level, CPU usage, AC state, and
running programs and adjusts the frequency governor according to a set of
rules specified in the config file.

Changes: This release fixes a leak in the nvclock plugin. Note that you
still need to patch nvclock, since a problem was found in it. Subsecond
poll_interval was introduced, but an internal lower limit of 0.15 seconds
has been set to avoid trashing the CPU. A SIGSEGV which occurred when
duplicate rules were found was fixed. Configuring the same plugin twice is
avoided, in case two or more sections for the same plugins are present.

[015] - fairly fast packet filter 1.4b
  by Willem de Bruijn (http://freshmeat.net/users/wdebruij/)
  Tue, Nov 1st 2005 10:44

System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: The fairly fast packet filter (FFPF) is an approach to network
packet processing that adds many new features to existing filtering
solutions like BPF. It is designed for high speed by pushing
computationally intensive tasks to the kernel or even network processors
and by minimising packet copying. By providing both a richer programming
language and explicit extensibility, it is also considerably more
flexible than existing approaches. It provides a complete solution for
network monitoring that caters to all applications available today. Using
 its extensibility, the language can even be used as a meta- filter to
"script" together filters from other approaches, such as BPF.

Changes: This release has a new 4-layer API structure, new example
applications, a new GUI toolkit, an extended input parser, full userspace
FFPF support (for debugging, etc.), full IXP2x00 support including control
plane, and much more.

  Tue, Nov 1st 2005 07:11

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering

About: JGraph is a free, mature, and robust Java Graphing framework that
fully complies with Swing design principles. It contains all the graph
visualization and interaction functionality you might expect in a graph
library, including multiple views, layering, zoom, drag and drop, undo,
automatic expanding and collapsing, routing, and layouts. You can create
stunning workflow editors, call graphs, CAD tools, network diagrams,
database visualization tools, and more. It can also be deployed on the
server-side with a large range of image exporting functionality. It is
fully documented and commercially supported.

Changes: The DefaultCellViewFactory is now Serializable, so serializing
the main part of the core should work correctly. Some example code from
JGraph Layout Pro has been moved into the new GraphEdX example; this
includes an XML encoding/decoding example and how to create collapsible
groups of cells. The image creation utility method in JGraph has been
changed to use print instead of paint to draw graphics; this makes certain
server-side operations easier and more efficient. Also, a number of minor
bugs have been fixed.

empty files, backup files, broken symbolic links, dead menu entries,
duplicated files, orphaned files (files not found in the RPM database),
and more. KleanSweep requires KDE/Qt libraries.

Changes: An orphaned files seeking bug and sorting by the "Size" column
were fixed. The "Size" column was removed from "Empty files" and "Broken

[027] - Lintouch 1.6.2 (Stable)
  by Martin Man (http://freshmeat.net/users/martinman/)
  Tue, Nov 1st 2005 10:46

Home Automation
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Lintouch is an implementation of HMI (Human Machine Interface) or
MMI (Man Machine Interface) software framework. It features a
server/client architecture, componentized design, and is platform and
architecture independent. The Lintouch architecture allows you to develop
your own connectivity plugins and visualization objects.

Changes: Lintouch Editor now supports locking of templates. Locked
templates do not interact with the mouse while the project is being
edited, thus making editing of very complex projects with a lot of
templates easier. Source code dependence on external SharedPtr and Swaloun
Framework has been dropped, thus making compilation from sources easier.

System :: Operating System
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: Linux is a clone of the Unix kernel, written from scratch by Linus
Torvalds with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the
Net. It aims towards POSIX and Single UNIX Specification compliance. It
has all the features you would expect in a modern fully-fledged Unix
kernel, including true multitasking, virtual memory, shared libraries,
demand loading, shared copy-on-write executables, proper memory
management, and TCP/IP networking.

Changes: Use of "loadkeys" is now restricted to root only. A mem ordering
bug was fixed. An old TCP window clamping bug was fixed. Two IPVS fixes
related to persistence were made. A few typos were fixed. Netfilter now
builds with gcc-3.4.3. Important fixes were made in sync with 2.4.32-rc2,
none of which are terrible, but an upgrade is recommended. 2.4.29-hf17 and
2.4.30-hf10 are also available.

[045] - strongSwan 2.5.6
  by Andreas Steffen (http://freshmeat.net/users/asteffen/)
  Tue, Nov 1st 2005 14:33

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: strongSwan is a complete IPsec and IKEv1 implementation for Linux
2.4 and 2.6 kernels. It interoperates with most other IPsec-based VPN
products. It is a descendant of the discontinued FreeS/WAN project. The
focus of the strongSwan project is on strong authentication mechanisms
using X.509 public key certificates and optional secure storage of private
keys on smartcards through a standardized PKCS#11 interface. A unique
feature is the use of X.509 attribute certificates to implement advanced
access control schemes based on group memberships.

Changes: The "ipsec whack --scencrypt" command now computes RSA encryption
in software using the public key fetched from the smartcard if the PKCS#11
library used (e.g. the OpenSC library) does not implement the C_Encrypt()
function. This feature can be used to protect hard disk encryption keys
with the same PIN used for the VPN. The "scepclient" command now allows
you to define the validity of a self-signed certificate using the --days,
--startdate, and --enddate options. The default validity has been changed
from one year to five years.

Information Management :: Records Management

About: Sysbotz Enterprise is both a business software package and business
application platform based around a Web GUI. It features a business
management system for sales, purchasing, and inventory, an XML-based form
engine (used to input/display data) and an XML-based report engine for
creating new forms and reports, and a built-in form editor tool that runs
in a browser. Its user interface utilizes DHTML to create a near-desktop
application experience from within a Web browser.

Changes: This release adds two often requested features: the ability to
