[001] - /etc/net Scripts 0.7.14
  by Pilot (http://freshmeat.net/users/infrastation/)
  Thu, Sep 29th 2005 14:47

System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and a QoS configuration
framework. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
Ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, Pent@NET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be
added without overall design changes.

Changes: This release features bugfixes for bonding and interface
dependencies code, a new NEVER_RMMOD option to workaround 2.6 kernel
problems, and a new command 'switchfrom' to allow switching from the
specified profile to the default configuration.

Scientific/Engineering

About: Asymptote is a powerful script-based vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. It is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program, allowing it to exploit the best
features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI)
methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language
itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.

Changes: The graph routines were overhauled to support three- dimensional
axes. A fuzz parameter was added to the intersect routines, which now also
work for points. Data file comments were implemented. The perpendicular
routine now uses an alignment argument; scale(pair) was removed. An option
was added to asymptote.sty to make all LaTeX symbols visible, along with a
second optional string to Label for providing a size estimate for
undefined labels. Numerous small bugs were fixed. The installation and
instructions were improved. An environment variable for every external
command was added.

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: This driver allows the Linux kernel to use the ATA over Ethernet
(AoE) network protocol. Using AoE, a Linux system can use AoE block
devices like EtherDrive (R) storage blades. The block devices appear as
local device nodes (e.g. /dev/etherd/e0.0).

Changes: Compatibility with Linux 2.6.13 and later kernels was added. The
driver now works around the e1000 bug by using packets no smaller than 60
bytes, and packet data is now explicitly zeroed. The aoetools version 7 is
now bundled with this driver.

[012] - DiffJ 1.0.5
  by Jeff Pace (http://freshmeat.net/users/JEugenePace/)
  Thu, Sep 29th 2005 06:46

Software Development

About: DiffJ is a commandline application that compares Java files based
on content, not whitespace, comments, or reordering of types, methods, or
fields. Its output is based on the Unix program diff, and it also has a
"brief" output format for a concise summary of what changed. It can work
on directories recursively, looking for matching filenames, like "diff -r
dir0 dir1". It is primarily for developers refactoring and reformatting
Java code, for which most difference tools tend to produce misleading
results regarding the type and extent of changes.

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Scientific/Engineering :: Geographical

About: The GeoServer project is a full transactional Java (J2EE)
implementation of the OpenGIS Consortium's Web Feature Server (WFS)
specification with a completely integrated Web Map Server (WMS). Users who
would like to access and modify their geographic data over the Internet
using flexible, industry-approved standards should take a look at
GeoServer or one of the existing commercial Web Feature Servers. It is
built as a thin layer on top of the excellent GeoTools2 GIS toolkit, and
includes a STRUTs-based Web administration interface for easy
configuration.

Changes: The big improvement is a MapPreview interface based on MapBuilder
to instantly visualize the layers deployed. Shapefile is now an output
format for the WFS, and GIF support is much improved. SLD labeling has
advanced and Like filters for the WFS are much faster with PostGIS and

  Thu, Sep 29th 2005 02:56

About: KSB26 (Kernel Socks Bouncer) is Linux Kernel 2.6.x loadable module
that redirects TCP connections (to user-defined target hosts) through
SOCKS 4/5 chains in a completely transparent way. It uses a character
device to pass SOCKS 4/5 and the target IP addresses to the Linux kernel.
This is obviously quite useful if you want to transparently tunnel certain
things through a given proxy to remain anonymous, or if you want to be able
to sniff certain network traffic transparently.

Changes: A feature for redirecting connections directed to all IPs was

and then compares the resulting list with the analogous output from ls. If
there is a discrepancy, it indicates some sort of trouble, most likely
invasion of the system by a malicious intruder.

About: s11n ("serialization") is a C++ library for easily serializing a
wide variety of objects, including PODs, STL containers, and user-defined
Serializable types. It is completely data-format agnostic and currently
supports 7 data formats, including three XML dialects and one
MySQL-powered back-end. Its author, with atypical hubris, truly believes
s11n to be the most advanced, most flexible, simplest-to-use, and utterly
most powerful serialization framework ever implemented in C++.

Changes: A complete rewrite of exceptions support. The library now offers
many exceptions guarantees that weren't previously possible. Many functors

captures a print job's data in their final form while they are being sent
to a printer (more precisely, to a CUPS backend), and at the same time
allows you to dispatch these data to any number of commands.

Changes: A filter can now be defined for each print queue in order to

About: Wechselspieler is a tool for mapping motion data from a video
stream onto sound events in the MIDI and OSC protocols. It features a GUI
for easy selection of trigger regions in a video stream and mapping these
to individual sound events. It supports various video input sources, such
