  Tue, Sep 20th 2005 10:52

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Albummer is a simple browser for MP3 collections. It is intended
for use with collections of whole albums rather than individual tracks. It
can play a random album from the collection and find album covers with
Google.

[002] - Apache2GDL 1.2
  by Schwalex (http://freshmeat.net/users/Schwalex/)
  Tue, Sep 20th 2005 07:48

Internet :: Log Analysis
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: Apache2GDL is a Perl script that parses an Apache log file and
generates a directed graph of visitors' movement in GDL format for
visualization with aiSee. It also allows you to pipe the graph directly
through aiSee and get a mapped SVG or PNG image of the layout. The
generated images help you find out how people actually browse your site --
which paths they take to get from page A to page B, which paths are more
popular than others, which pages get the most hits, and whether there are
one-way paths and dead-end pages.

Changes: This release works around a PNG image mapping bug in aiSee. The
list of search engine bots has been updated. HTTP requests containing
(illegal) unmasked arrow brackets no longer cause corrupted SVG files to
be produced.

Communications
Information Management :: Document Repositories
Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models

About: BlueXML is an XML framework, written with Cocoon, that provides
CRUD and reporting functionalities, available through Web services. You
can embed these services in your application, whatever the programming
language you use. Integrated in a portal, it allows you to create powerful
intranet, extranet, or Internet applications without writing any code.

Changes: The "iCal through ics" exportation module now works like a charm.
You can use Mozilla Calendar, Apple iCal, or phpicalendar to view events
you manage with the BlueXML Web application. A phpicalendar package is
distributed in the archive to provide a smooth installation.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering

About: BRL-CAD is a powerful constructive solid geometry solid modeling
system that includes an interactive geometry editor, ray-tracing support
for rendering and geometric analysis, path-tracing for realistic image
synthesis, network distributed framebuffer support, and image and
signal-processing tools.

Changes: This release provides a new quantitative geometric analysis tool,
g_qa, that computes mass and volume among a variety of other values more
efficiently than before. There's also the addition of a new
high-performance geometry visualization tool called ISST, included as part
of the ADRT triangle-based tool suite. Build support enhancements abound,
as well as an improved testing framework and relocation support. Several
bugs were identified and fixed, and support for SGI button and dials
hardware is reenabled.

[010] - Conary 0.62.7
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Tue, Sep 20th 2005 11:28

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: This release adds a few more performance improvements, a few
small bugfixes, a few user experience improvements (in particular, locked
databases are handled more gracefully, and the temporary "yuck" script has
finally been removed), and one small packaging change to ComponentRequires
for a non-default case.

  Tue, Sep 20th 2005 07:57

Information Management
Security
Security :: Cryptography

About: cpm (Console Password Manager) is a small console tool to manage
passwords and other sensitive data and store them in a public-key
encrypted file. It also allows you to configure the whole hierarchy
yourself, so it's easily adoptable for many requirements. The encryption
is handled through GnuPG, and the data inside is stored as XML.

Changes: Signing the data file is now done using the same keys as used for
encryption (if possible) and not just the default gpg key. A small bug was
fixed which caused a segfault if the data file had a size of 0.

[017] - EJOE 0.3.4
  by netseeker (http://freshmeat.net/users/netseeker/)
  Tue, Sep 20th 2005 11:31

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Software Development :: Object Brokering

About: A lightweight Java client/server component built to send and
receive objects through pluggable (de)serialization mechanisms. It offers
a high-performance, simple, and clean object request broker (whereby ORB
is meant in its natural manner and not in its relation with CORBA), with
server and client components for your client/server applications. Similar
to RMI, it supports remote class loading to avoid redundant classpath
entries, but doesn't require stubs and/or proxy objects.

Changes: The default serialization adapter now uses an additional buffer,
which results in better serialization performance. Additional wait cycles
have been added to the servers connection acceptor to reduce CPU
consumption while waiting for new incoming client connections. Some
synchronization problems which may have caused long response times under
heavy load have been fixed.

[023] - gnormalize 0.41
  by Claudio F. S. Rodrigues (http://freshmeat.net/users/claudiofsr/)
  Tue, Sep 20th 2005 07:46

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: gnormalize is a front end to the "normalize" tool, a ripper, an
encoder, and an audio converter. It decodes MP3, MP4 (or M4A or AAC), MPC
(or MPP or MP+), OGG, APE, or FLAC files to wave, then normalizes the wave
and re-encodes it. It can also rip audio CDs, encode audio data, convert
audio formats between MP3, MP4, MPC, OGG, APE, and FLAC, and change the
encoding properties and edit Meta Info (like title, artist, album, etc.)
of the final normalized files.

Changes: The ability to play MP3, MP4, MPC, Ogg, FLAC, and WAV format
files was added. gnormalize plays MP3 with mpg321/mpg123/madplay, MPC with
mppdec, Ogg with ogg123, FLAC with flac123/MPlayer, and WAV with MPlayer.
All supported files inside the directory are converted or normalized to
one specific format. Output to WAV without needing to encode is possible.

Scientific/Engineering

About: GNU TeXmacs is a free scientific text editor, which was inspired by
both TeX and GNU Emacs. The editor allows you to write structured documents
via a "wysiwyg" and user friendly interface. The program implements high
quality typesetting algorithms and TeX fonts. It is also possible to use
TeXmacs as an interface to computer algebra systems. Finally, TeXmacs
supports the Guile/Scheme extension language, which makes it possible to
adapt the user interface to specific needs, and even to extend the editor.

Changes: This release adds converters from and to MathML (embedded into
XHTML documents) and a new interface with Maple. Some final adjustments

[025] - Gtk2::Ex::Datasheet::DBI 0.9
  by Daniel Kasak (http://freshmeat.net/users/dkasak/)
  Tue, Sep 20th 2005 07:53

Database :: Front-Ends

About: Gtk2::Ex::Datasheet::DBI is a Perl module that is used in
conjunction with Gtk2::Perl to give data-aware "datasheet" functionality.
The programmer creates a GUI with Gtk2-Perl (and possibly Gtk2-GladeXML),
and then creates a Gtk2::Ex::Datasheet::DBI object, which then "binds" a
DBI data source to the datasheet, managing querying, navigating records,
applying updates to the database, and error handling.

Changes: A new renderer for time columns was added. Placement of the date
renderer pop-up was fixed. A dialog question was added, asking the user
whether to apply if a window is closed with unapplied changes to a
recordset. Missing code was added to process sql_order_by. The readonly
flag was renamed to read_only (for consistency) and the status column is
hidden when read_only.

Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: Gtk2::Ex::DBI is a Perl module that is used in conjunction with
Gtk2::Perl and Gtk2::GladeXML to give data-aware "form" functionality. The
programmer creates a database form with Glade2, and then creates a
Gtk2::Ex::DBI object, which then "binds" a DBI data source to the form,
managing querying, navigating records, applying updates to the database,
and error handling.

Changes: A dialog question was added, asking the user whether to apply if
a window is closed with unapplied changes to a recordset. Setting of a
calculated field was fixed if the result of the calculation is 0. The
dialog description of DBI error message which was shown if apply fails was
fixed. A bug in trying to block a non-existent signal when setting a
primary key retrieved from an insert was fixed. The remaining 0s and 1s
were replaced with FALSEs and TRUEs.

Software Development :: Documentation
System

About: The Heirloom Documentation Tools package provides troff, nroff, and
related utilities to format manual pages and other documents for output on
terminals and printers. They are portable and enhanced versions of the
utilities released by Sun as part of OpenSolaris, which are a variant of
ditroff, which, in turn, descends from the historical Unix troff. While
consuming relatively few system resources, troff provides advanced
typographical features such as kerning, tracking, and hanging characters.
Internationalized hyphenation, paper sizes, and UTF-8 input are supported.

Changes: Fixes were made to the handling of locale-dependent input
characters in copy mode, lookup of kerning pairs, and AFM-based font
support. The escape sequence "\U'nnnn'" was introduced to set the
character at Unicode position U+nnnn.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Editors

About: Jaikoz is an audio tagger for ID3 and MP3. It has many advanced
automation features, making it quick and easy to correct the meta-data in
your audio tags. It works especially well with large music collections. It
uses a spreadsheet view to allow you to edit information more quickly than
other applications, and provides many autoformatting tasks that do most of
the work for you. For example, it compares your MP3s to each other to help
correct missing information or spelling mistakes.

Changes: Some minor enhancements have been made. Options have been added
to add/open file(s), so that you can select the files you would like to
open instead of having to open the whole folder. An option to close
individual files once they have been opened has been added. The Attached

Changes: Support for IDMEF optional integer. The failover subsystem is
used when the communication with a Prelude Manager goes down, and now
supports transactions and quotas. Full IPv6 support for client/manager
connectivity. Allows multiple analyzer instances through the use of

[057] - rsyslog 1.10.0 (Development)
  by Rainer Gerhards (http://freshmeat.net/users/rgerhards/)
  Tue, Sep 20th 2005 13:52

System :: Logging

About: Rsyslog is an enhanced syslogd. Among other features, it offers
support for reliable syslog over TCP, writing to MySQL databases, and
fully configurable output formats (including great timestamps). It is
designed as a drop-in replacement for stock syslogd and thus is able to
work with the same config file syntax. Of course, some enhanced features
require changing the config file, but in general, this should be fairly
easy.

Changes: This release contains major new features, most importantly the
ability to filter on any syslog message property, not just facility and
severity. For example, it can now be filtered based on the content of the
message itself (e.g. log to a different file if it contains the string
"error"). Other new features include the ability to conditionally discard
messages, regular expression support inside templates, performance
improvements, and more.

[063] - SurakWare Base Library 0.4.0
  by trapni (http://freshmeat.net/users/trapni/)
  Tue, Sep 20th 2005 07:27

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: The purpose of the SurakWare Base Library (SWL/libswl) is to serve
as a platform independent framework for C++ and QPascal. The SWL includes
both thin layers over functionality exposed by the Linux and Windows
operating systems as well as higher level classes for many purposes. Save
for a few exceptions, the SWL is completely indpedenent from the STL and
the C/C++ runtime library. Platform independence has been achieved by
encapsulating OS-specific implementation details in a number of SWL
classes. There should never be a need to use "#ifdef"s to distinguish
between platforms.

Changes: Some memory and file descriptor leaks were fixed. Some buffer
indexing problems were fixed. I/O dispatcher problems on high load
notifies were fixed. TFile::directory() was fixed. TEventManager's
add/remove operation logic was improved. TNullEnumerator::moveNext() was
fixed so that it returns false rather than throwing an exception. Some
64-bit vs. 32-bit compilation fixes were made. TStream::readTimeout and
writeTimeout were backported from trunk to 0.4 (and thus introduced
EIOTimeout exception). General improvements were made to
TArgumentEvaluator and TAnsiColor. General code cleanup was done.

[064] - System Configuration Collector 1.6.26 (Stable)
  by siem (http://freshmeat.net/users/scholtz/)
  Tue, Sep 20th 2005 08:02

System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities

About: System Configuration Collector (SCC) is yet another configuration
collector. It consists of a client and a server part. The client collects
configuration data in a structured snapshot, compares the new snapshot
with the previous one, and adds differences to a logbook. Then the
snapshot and the logbook are converted to HTML for local inspection.
Optionally, the data can be sent to a system running the server software.
On the server, summaries of the data are generated, and search/compare
operations on the snapshots and logbooks are available via a Web
interface.

Changes: dd is used instead of adb to obtain PVID and VGID. The output of
idisk and efi_ls was added for HP-UX on Itanium. /usr/sbin/kconfig was
added for HP-UX. The xpg4 version of tr is used for Solaris. Formatting
differences in /stand/system and the output of system_prep are not
reported. A segmentation fault for mount on SuSE 9.2 is suppressed.
Extensions were added for DataProtector 5.5 Decode OpC logfile
encapsulators and monitors.

About: The Zero Install Injector makes it possible for users to install
software easily and without the need for root privileges. It takes the URL
of a program's interface description and chooses suitable versions of the
program and all of its dependencies (also identified by URLs) according to
the user's policy settings (eg. "stable", "testing", "minimal network use",
etc). The chosen versions are downloaded and cached and the program is run,
using environment variables to let it find the components.

Changes: The injector can now automatically select the best binary package
for your platform. Default values for environment variables can be
specified. The trust confirmation box provides more useful information to
help you decide whether to trust a new GPG key.
