[001] - /etc/net Scripts 0.7.13
  by Pilot (http://freshmeat.net/users/infrastation/)
  Sun, Sep 18th 2005 13:11

System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and a QoS configuration
framework. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
Ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, Pent@NET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be
added without overall design changes.

Changes: This release features Pent@VALUE DVB card support and minor
bugfixes.

[003] - audio convert 0.2.3
  by thetroublemaker (http://freshmeat.net/users/thetroublemaker/)
  Sun, Sep 18th 2005 03:16

Desktop Environment :: Gnome
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: audio convert is a script that converts between WAV, Ogg, MP3,
MPC, FLAC, APE, and WMA files. It has an easy-to-use interface that
makes it possible to fill in the tags for a few formats and choose the
quality of compression. The script was initially designed for the
Nautilus file browser and can be easily installed into Nautilus by
copying it to the nautilus-scripts directory. You can then right- click
on files and choose "audio-convert" from the "scripts" menu. The script
is also known to work on rox or directly from a shell.

Changes: A message now warns about which codec is missing. It's now
possible to pass metatags on from one file to another. Void metatags are
now recognized and treated. The German and Spanish translations were
updated.

  Sun, Sep 18th 2005 03:32

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Arcade

About: Critical Mass (Critter) is an SDL/OpenGL space shoot'em up game.
Your world has been infested by an aggressive army of space critters.
Overrun and unprepared, your government was unable to defend its precious
resources. As a last effort to recapture some of the 'goodies', you have
been placed into a tiny spacecraft and sent after them.

Changes: This release adds an online update checker, a simple scroller to
display updates, miscellaneous eye-candy, a volume control for music and
sound effects, weapon and ammo display inside the critterboard, and new
menu options to control starfield, nebulas, non 4:3 resolutions, and
vertical ship movement. Two new levels were added. The documentation was
updated. A number of bugs were fixed and support for gcc 4.0.1 was added.

Communications
Communications :: Internet Phone
Communications :: Telephony

About: Flash Operator Panel displays information about your Asterisk PBX
activity in real time via a standard Web browser with the Flash plugin.
The display and button layout is configurable, so you can have more than
100 buttons on the screen at once. It also supports contexts: you can have
one server running and many different client displays (for hosted PBX,
different departments, etc). It can monitor several asterisk servers at
once. It can integrate with CRM software, by popping up a Web page (and
passing the CLID) when a specified button is ringing. It also can be used
to enable click-to-dial for Web-based applications.

Changes: The security code input bug was fixed. A Swedish translation was
added. The speed of regexp button matching was improved.

  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Sun, Sep 18th 2005 03:24

Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: fwknop implements an authorization scheme that requires only a
single encrypted packet to communicate various pieces of information,
including desired access through a Netfilter policy and/or specific
commands to execute on the target system. The main application of this
program is to protect services such as SSH with an additional layer of
security in order to make the exploitation of vulnerabilities much more
difficult. The authorization server works by passively monitoring
authorization packets via libpcap.

Changes: A bugfix was made for knoptm timing out new entries based on old
time values. (This caused new rules to time out too quickly.) Support for
multiple users in REQUIRE_USERNAME keyword in access.conf was added. The
ability to display raw encrypted packet data in client mode with --verbose
was added. A fwknop RPM was created for RPM-based Linux distributions.
Inappropriate redirects in command mode where the command already
contained a redirect were fixed.

[024] - Haskell FFI Binding Modules Generator 1.0pl1
  by Dmitry Golubovsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/dmg/)
  Sun, Sep 18th 2005 05:11

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: Haskell FFI Binding Modules Generator (HSFFIG) is a tool that takes
a C library include file (.h) and generates Haskell Foreign Functions
Interface import declarations for all functions, #define's (where
possible), enumerations, and structures/unions (to access their members).
It is assumed that GNU C Compiler and Preprocessor are used.
Auto-generated Haskell modules may be imported into an application to get
access to the foreign library's functions and variables.

Changes: The type alias resolution mechanism was corrected so that it
looks deep enough in the simplified declarations tree. As a result of this
patch, a construction such as "typedef struct X { int bla; } Y; int
(*fun1(Y *, int))(Y *);" is now converted correctly. Without this patch,
the first occurrence of "Y" (within the function pointer parameter list)
was not mapped into its original type (struct X).

[025] - HTML Sucks Completely 0.999
  by Matthias Bethke (http://freshmeat.net/users/msbethke/)
  Sun, Sep 18th 2005 03:12

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML

About: HSC (HTML Sucks Completely) is a developer tool for HTML projects.
It is mainly intended for creating and maintaining larger Web sites, with
a focus on compact and standards-conforming code. Its source texts are
HTML files that use an extended syntax allowing for macros, conditionals,
variables, expressions, etc. These sources are transformed into static
(X)HTML pages. HSC checks the result for many common errors such as
missing end tags and nesting mistakes, both in the markup and, to a
limited extent, in CSS. As a commandline tool, it can be used together
with "make", and a dependency generator is included. The macro library
features things like navigation menus, LaTeX-style sections, footnotes and
bibliographies, semiautomatic table-based layout, and database/scripting
interfaces.

Changes: This will be the last release before 1.0. This release features
minor performance improvements, regular expression operators, improved
container nesting checks, and a complete parser for CSS values. A few bugs
in the handling of project files and AmigaOS functions have been fixed. The
documentation has been completely overhauled for easier navigation and
better looks due to CSS. A (preliminary) ebuild file for Gentoo Linux is
now included.

  Sun, Sep 18th 2005 02:38

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: iList is an intelligent playlist for the KDE media player Noatun.
It is intelligent in the sense that songs are selected from a (possibly
large) repository of audio files in a smart manner. Think of it as your
personal radio station that plays your favourite songs all day long. iList
supports implicit song ranking, incremental search, a song history,
independent queueing, multiple collections, and fast access to large
repositories with auto detection of new files.

Changes: A setting to allow multiline cells for comments was added.
Shortcuts for updating a playlist and for updating all playlists were
added. A setting to remove items from the preview when they are played or
enqueued from there was added. The same item being played twice in a row
in "Adaptive Learning" play mode was fixed by commenting out randomness. A
bug which caused an assertion failure in KDE library code was fixed. The
last item before shutdown showing up twice in history was fixed. The "Loop
in Queue" feature was reactivated.

Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: The Network Security Policy Compiler (NetSPoC) is a tool for
security management of large computer networks with different security
domains. It generates configuration files for packet filters controlling
the borders of security domains. It provides its own language for
describing security policy and the topology of a network. The security
policy is a set of rules that state which packets are allowed to pass the
network and which are not. NetSPoC is topology aware; a rule for traffic
from A to B is automatically applied to all managed packet filters on the
path from A to B.

Changes: IPSec encryption is supported now. A new concept of areas was
introduced. An area denotes a part of the topology which is delimited by a
set of interfaces. The IP address and mask of networks may alternatively be
declared as an IP address and a prefix length. Some network objects get an
optional attribute "owner" which is used for documentation purposes.
Optimization has been improved by automatically joining rules with
adjacent port ranges. Netspoc now runs on 64-bit systems.

[054] - SCSS 0.2.0
  by Julian Graham (http://freshmeat.net/users/joolean/)
  Sun, Sep 18th 2005 17:41

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: SCSS is a Guile Scheme module for parsing, querying, and emitting
style information compatible with the W3C Cascading Stylesheets
recommendation. While SCSS does not itself provide any rendering
functionality, it can provide style information to applications and
libraries that do. If used with XML documents produced by SXML or SDOM,
SCSS can accomodate the full range of selector types described in the W3C
recommendation. It can also match simple selectors against strings when
structured document information is not available.

About: SQLite is a small, fast, embeddable SQL database engine that
supports most of SQL92, including transactions with atomic commit and
rollback, subqueries, compound queries, triggers, and views. A complete
database is stored in a single cross-platform disk file. The native C/C++
API is simple and easy to use. Bindings for other languages are also
available.

Changes: A bug was fixed that might cause database corruption if a VACUUM
failed and rolled back while processing a file larger than 1GiB. Optimizer
improvements were made and support for COUNT(DISTINCT) was added.

that can later be deployed via network or physical media. The system is
extremely versatile and makes it possible to create sets of programs for
different kinds of systems, from routers to desktops, including different
architectures and platforms.

Changes: This release candidate includes general bugfixes and minor (but
important) updates, most notably OpenOffice 1.9-m123, Mono 1.1.8.3, bdb

[063] - Task Coach 0.47
  by Frank Niessink (http://freshmeat.net/users/fniessink/)
  Sun, Sep 18th 2005 08:11

Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: Task Coach is a simple todo manager to manage personal tasks and
todo lists. It grew out of a frustration that well-known task managers,
such as those provided with Outlook or Lotus Notes, do not provide
facilities for composite tasks. Often, tasks and other things to do
consist of several activities. Task Coach is designed to deal with
composite tasks.

Changes: There are a couple of bugfixes. A Hungarian translation has been
added. The task tree view also shows columns with task details, similar to
the task list view. Sorting on task subject can be case insensitive. See
the menu item 'View' -> 'Sort' -> 'Sort case sensitive'. Recent files are
remembered and can be opened from the File menu. The last modification
time of tasks can be viewed.

[065] - The Mana World 0.0.16
  by Bjørn Lindeijer (http://freshmeat.net/users/bjorn81/)
  Sun, Sep 18th 2005 17:32

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: The Mana World (TMW) is a serious effort to create an innovative
free and open source MMORPG. It uses 2D graphics and aims to create a
large and diverse interactive world. The game aims to be a unique place
for people to interact not only by fighting each other but to play life,
form a community within the community, or just simply chat. Although the
game is never-ending and a linear story cannot be applied, it should have
enough background to describe and predefine tribes, kingdoms, and the
environment overall. Fullfilled quests should lead to certain events
depending on them being solved. Quests should also encourage teamwork.

Changes: An inn and casino were added, the status window and OpenGL
support were improved, and a lot of code was cleaned up.

[066] - Tile Project 0.7.1
  by Greg Schenzel (http://freshmeat.net/users/inittab/)
  Sun, Sep 18th 2005 04:06

About: Tile is a program that can tile windows on the desktop, either
vertically or horizontally. It can avoid screen elements based on window
manager "profiles" and "avoid" data that are user-customizable. It has
been mostly tested under MWM, but it also works with some multi-desktop
window managers [_WIN_WORKSPACE] like FluxBox and Oroborus, given the "-m"
option, or GNOME/Net-WM style WMs, given the "-w" option.

Changes: Tile now supports and has been tested under a variety of
multi-desktop environments, such as GNOME (Net-WM compatible) and
Workspace-style window managers (*Box, Oroborus). A configuration file has
been added that allows equivalents of all command-line arguments to be
stored permanently per-user and/or per-system. Support now exists for
using arbitrary XA_STRING X11 Atoms (such as Window or Icon title, even
WM_CLASS) as criteria for ignoring windows like Gkrellm or desktop panels.
Finally, GNU getopt-long style args have been added.

[068] - ulxmlrpcpp 1.5.0-rc6
  by ewi (http://freshmeat.net/users/ewi/)
  Sun, Sep 18th 2005 13:10

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
Software Development :: Object Brokering

About: ulxmlrpcpp is a library to perform calls via XML-RPC in an object
oriented approach. It is possible to create both client and server
applications in multithreaded environments. Unlike other implementations,
it does not insist on HTTP for transportation, but might also accept other
ways (e.g. a simple serial line with a user-defined protocol). For HTTP as
a transportation protocol, the following features are supported: cookies,
SSL/TLS, proxy, SSL/TLS over a proxy, and chunked transfers. ulxmlrpcpp is
also able to transmit data faster with binary XML.

Changes: This release fixes several more or less serious bugs. Handling of
chunked encoding in the class HttpProtocol has been rewritten, and should
now be fully compliant for both sending and receiving data.

Software Development :: Documentation

About: wyoGuide is a tutorial, a collection of guidelines for building
cross-platform applications with a well-designed, consistent look and

and should be written. Development with these guidelines gives the GUI of
an application a standard set of base functionality. wyoGuide also
provides sample code for each guideline written in C++ using the wxWidgets
(formerly wxWindows) framework. For a seasoned developer it shouldn't be
difficult to adapt these guidelines to other languages or frameworks.

Changes: It is now possible to use localized help books (.htb) to make
