[001] - ACFTools 0.62a
  by Stanislaw Y. Pusep (http://freshmeat.net/users/stanislaughterer/)
  Sun, Aug 1st 2004 22:58

Games/Entertainment :: Simulation
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

About: ACFTools is a utility for manipulating X-Plane flight simulator
aircraft and weapon models without using its Plane Maker. It can decode
both Apple and Intel ACF/WPN formats into plain text files with a syntax
similar to C, which can be edited and then re-converted into binary
data. It is able to extract almost complete 3D models of aircraft
(fuselage, floats, tanks, wings, stabs, propellers, engines) and write
it in AC3D modeler format. Edited 3D parts can then be merged into plain
text and consequently converted into binary ACF files.

Changes: This release fixed a 3D model problem in WPN740.def and a weapon
AC3D generation problem where weapons had no arm.

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents

About: Animail is a multiserver POP3/APOP/IMAP4 (with or without SSL) mail
retrieval utility. It features an advanced filtering system based on
blacklisting, whitelisting, or a combination of both. It is possible to
send an autoresponse which prompts people to reply and add themselves to
the 'autoaccept' file. It also allows filters based on regular expressions
which match against the email headers. (If a message is filtered, only the
header is downloaded, not the entire body.) Combining external filtering
programs (e.g. SpamAssassin or Bogofilter) as message post-download
plugins is also easily acomplished, thus extending filtering capabilities
in an unlimited way. Available delivery options include mailbox, maildir,
local SMTP, and pipe to a command.

Changes: A few changes were done to the Makefile to prepare it for
allowing .autopackage generation. An .autopackage (self-installable) file
download was added.

[003] - AVInfo alpha 13 (Scripting version)
  by George Shuklin (http://freshmeat.net/users/Shapiro/)
  Sun, Aug 1st 2004 02:15

Multimedia :: Video
Utilities

About: AVInfo is a utility for displaying AVI, MPEG (1, 2), OGM, and
IFO(DVD) information. It returns the length of a clip, FPS, resolution,
codec, audio and video bit rate, number of key frames, sound parameters,
the number and type of streams, and the language for audio/subtitles. It
then generates a filelist with statistics.

Changes: This release adds full OGM/OGG support (including detection of
languages of audio/subtitle streams) and limited support of IFO (DVD).
There are minor riff bugfixes, and a new HTML template.

About: Blueproxy is a simple proxy server to convert Bluetooth RFCOMM
connections into TCP connections. This frees Bluetooth application
programmers from having to worry about getting Bluetooth bindings for
their language of choice. Notable features include sending preambles to
allow a single TCP server to aggregrate multiple Bluetooth sensors, and a
 scanning mode to continuously detect Bluetooth devices entering into
range of a sensor. It currently supports the Linux Bluez stack, FreeBSD

Software Development :: Bug Tracking

About: Bugzilla is the leading open-source/free software bug tracking
system, with high-profile installations at mozilla.org, GNOME, Red Hat,
and NASA, among others. It features a comprehensive set of fields,
attachment management, inter-bug dependencies, email notification of
changes, a powerful query interface, reporting, and Web, XML, email, and
console interfaces. It can be managed entirely using a Web-based UI. The
user UI is customizable using templates.

Changes: This release fixes regressions and minor bugs found in the first
release candidate. "canconfirm" privileges actually work now; creating a
new chart no longer prevents you from accessing the query page. "Find a
specific bug" no longer misses some obvious matches. There is some w3c
validation cleanup and other minor fixes.

[015] - dsmcc-mhp-tools 1.3
  by Marek Pikarski (http://freshmeat.net/users/mass/)
  Sun, Aug 1st 2004 17:58

About: dsmcc-mhp-tools is a collection of utilities for generating MPEG2
elementary streams that include DSM-CC MHP ObjectCarousels and other
MPEG2/MHP-specific structures, especially the ones used for proper
signalling. In addition to the one-step ObjectCarousel encoder, the
project also provides tools for the generation of the PMT, AIT, continuous
NPT-streams, and StreamEvent descriptors. All DSM-CC object types (File,
Directory, Stream, StreamEvent, and LiteOptionsProfile) are supported and
can be included in the generated streams. The encoder programs can be used
by broadcasters to include MHP-Applications or other data in a MPEG2
stream, or by companies and MHP-Application developers for testing.

Changes: The ObjectCarousel update tool was not available for
multi-layered ObjectCarousels for some time; it can also deal with them
now. It allows updates of parts (DataCarousels, each broadcast on its own
PID) of the whole ObjectCarousel.

[028] - Gtk2-Perl 1.053 (Development)
  by muppet (http://freshmeat.net/users/muppet/)
  Sun, Aug 1st 2004 23:17

Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: Gtk2-Perl allows Perl developers to write GTK+ 2.x applications.
The bindings use an object oriented syntax that attempts to remain close
to the C API, but take a Perlish approach where appropriate.

Changes: This release added bindings for some late additions to GTK+ and
Pango, as well as some utilities important for deriving custom
TreeModels.

[029] - Gwenview 1.1.4 (Development)
  by Aurélien Gâteau (http://freshmeat.net/users/bk12/)
  Sun, Aug 1st 2004 13:22

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Gwenview is a simple image viewer for KDE. Image loading is done by
the Qt library (so it supports all image formats your Qt installation
supports). It features a folder tree window and a file list and thumbnail
window to provide easy navigation in your file hierarchy, and uses docked
windows to allow you to alter the layout in any way you want.

Changes: This release uses EXIF thumbnails if they are available. The
fullscreen on-screen display has been enhanced to be more readable and
more customizable: it can now show the image name, comment, and/or size. A
data loss that could occur when using JPEGTran has been fixed. When using
Gwenview in Konqueror, the back button works correctly. Non-trivial URLs
(e.g. HTTP query URLs) are correctly handled.

Software Development :: Widget Sets

About: Indite is a rich-content editor widget. It is used as a drop-in
replacement for a tag in HTML forms. Indite validates content as the user
types. This ensures that the output is semantically clean, but still
allows the user full preview of the final result. Indite is mainly a
JavaScript (client-side) application, but comes with a PHP class that
encapsulates and simplifies the use of it. Indite works under Internet
Explorer 5.5+ for Windows as well as newer versions of Mozilla. Indite has
different appearences from which to choose.

Changes: This version is mainly a maintenance release. The Mozilla version
has been patched, and is now almost up-to-date with the IE version (there
are still some issues with the clipboard). A PHP wrapper to let indite
work as a plugin for Smarty is included.

  Sun, Aug 1st 2004 02:17

About: Program Version Syncer (pvs) downloads new versions of packages
based on their version numbers from either FTP or HTTP servers. It
extracts the version number from packages that have already been
downloaded by the user against the version number from the packages that
reside on a server. If patches are provided to take it the existing
package up to the newest version, only these will be downloaded.

Changes: A couple of annoying little problems have been fixed. When one
runs pvs for the first time, none of the databases were be created, and
no error was printed either. This has been fixed. Now, when downloading
files, a progress bar is drawn and the download rate is also printed,
together with the percentage. This finally enlightens the user on what's
happening on huge downloads. A large number of memory leaks have also been

About: psmon is a Perl script which can be run as a stand-alone program or
a fully functional background daemon, capable of logging to syslog with
customisable email notification facilities. The user defines a set of
rules in an Apache-style plain text configuration file. These rules
describe what processes should always be running on the system, and any
limitations on concurrent instances, TTL, and maximum CPU/memory usage of
processes. psmon scans the UNIX process table and, using the set of rules
defined in the configuration file, will respawn any dead processes, and
slay or "deal with" any aggressive or illegal processes.

Changes: The code was cleaned up and repackaged.

[058] - Republic 0.5
  by Stuart Guthrie (http://freshmeat.net/users/stuartguthrie/)
  Sun, Aug 1st 2004 18:31

Office/Business

About: Republic enables old-style computer reports (formally known as
ASCII reports) to be parsed and turned into OASIS OpenOffice.org
spreadsheet documents. This data can then more easily analysed by
management. Parsing rules are held in a simple XML format.

Changes: Parsing parameters now enable multiple worksheets within a
spreadsheet to be built from the same report. For example you might parse
detail lines to sheet1, summary totals to sheet 2, and report parameters
to sheet3. A shell script is included to enable making republic a printer
driver option in Unix/Linux environments. This means you can have a user
select printer 'spreadsheet output' and have the report name drive the
selection of the parser parameters creating a spreadsheet in their report
directories or a common place. More documentation is also included.

[069] - Virtual AGC 20040801
  by Ron Burkey (http://freshmeat.net/users/rburkey/)
  Sun, Aug 1st 2004 13:23

Scientific/Engineering
System :: Emulators

About: Virtual AGC is a simulation of the Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC)
used in the Apollo Command Modules and Lunar Modules in 1968-1972. The
project includes an emulated CPU, an emulated display/keyboard (DSKY),
the AGC's original executable binaries and machine-readable
assembly-language source code (Luminary and Colossus), AGC source code
for a CPU validation suite, an AGC assembler, scanned Apollo
documentation, and other elements. The emulated CPU has been designed to
be modular and portable, to facilitate incorporation into spacecraft
simulations such as lunar-lander simulations.

Changes: Complementary errors in the Colossus (CM) binary were fixed. The
Luminary (LM) source code has now been debugged. The AGC assembler (yaYUL)
has been completed, and can correctly assemble Luminary. The simulated CPU
now has a far lower utilization of the PC's CPU (~1% instead of ~95%).
Numerous minor fixes have also been made.

[070] - Vuurmuur 0.5.48
  by Victor Julien (http://freshmeat.net/users/Victor78/)
  Sun, Aug 1st 2004 02:08

Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Vuurmuur is a middle-end and front-end for netfilter and iptables
that is aimed at system administrators who need a decent firewall, but
don't have netfilter specific knowledge. It converts human-readable rules
into an iptables ruleset (or optional a bash script), makes netfiler logs
readable, includes  an ncurses GUI.

Changes: This release adds a 'markiptstate' option to the ruleoptions
which adds support for the Snort_inline iptstate patch. The creating of
rules was cleaned up some more. The logprefix field in vuurmuur_conf was
too big, and so was adjusted. Logging of incoming broadcasts was fixed.
When creating a QUEUE rule an optional protocol helper is now supported
(needs the iptables helper module). In a service the protocol helper
(like ip_conntrack_ftp) can be supplied. MAC addresses are now also
logged in the trafficlog.

  by Stephan Beyer (http://freshmeat.net/users/sbeyer/)
  Sun, Aug 1st 2004 13:10

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: webdiff is a powerful Web page update checker. It supports a
variety of different methods (diff, size, date, MD5 sum, regexp) and only
prints the URIs of the Web pages that changed so that its output can
easily be used by other scripts (such as wget or mail).

Changes: A -r (--reset) option was added to reset current differences, so
that the -d option doesn't show the same differences again and again.
