[001] - a-renet 1.0.2
  by Claudio (http://freshmeat.net/users/sick_soul/)
  Saturday, March 20th 2004 14:28

Communications :: Chat
Games/Entertainment :: Turn Based Strategy

About: a-renet (Arena Revival Network) aims to build a distributed
multiplayer game creation system (clients, servers, and a metaserver) and
create a sample game on top of it (as a tribute to arena256, with which it
shares many game concepts). The existing code is a distributed chat with
an SDL client.

Changes: Significant bugs were removed in all modules. The server code has
been cleaned up. The SDL client now has more consistent mouse support,
improved stability, a better looking GUI, and more customizable skins. The
network protocol has been improved to a more efficient implementation.

[002] - Abbot 0.12.2
  by twall (http://freshmeat.net/users/twall/)
  Saturday, March 20th 2004 09:10

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing

About: Abbot is a framework for testing Java GUIs. It lets you launch an
application or GUI component, play back user actions on it, and examine
its state. Tests may be coded or scripted. The editor supports recording
user actions into a script, exploring the component hierarchy, running the
script, and other features you'd expect from a script editor. Test scripts
are JUnit extensions.

Changes: This release adds many editor bugfixes, including ones for
recording bugs.

[003] - Advanced TFTP 0.7
  by Jean-Pierre Lefebvre (http://freshmeat.net/users/helixfm/)
  Saturday, March 20th 2004 03:18

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
System :: Boot

About: atftp is a client/server implementation of the TFTP protocol that
implements RFCs 1350, 2090, 2347, 2348, and 2349. The server is
multi-threaded and the client presents a friendly interface using
libreadline. The current server implementation lacks IPv6 support.

Changes: This release includes support for mtftp (preliminary), a way to
use multicast in tftp transfer. It also includes support for libpcre which
allows the user to apply regular expressions on requested file name. There
are also many small enhancements and bugfixes to the multicast (RFC2090)
support. Some new command line options have been added too.

[006] - AmavisNewSQL SquirrelMail Plugin 0.7
  by JimmyDigital (http://freshmeat.net/users/jimmydigital/)
  Saturday, March 20th 2004 23:02

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Text Processing :: Filters

About: The AmavisNewSQL SquirrelMail plugin gives you per-user control of
a subset of SpamAssassin settings which are stored in a database. It also
allows you to use a quarantine database for questionable mail. This plugin
was designed with enterprise use in mind, and differs from other plugins
in that it works with amavis-new rather than SpamAssassin directly. Most
of the code lives in an external class that you can reuse in your own
admin tools. It even has support for SOAP calls to perform common tasks.

Changes: This release is now pure PHP working from a common class. There
are changes to support replicated databases, improved error handling, and
several other usability improvements.

[007] - Audio Tag Tool 0.9
  by Pedro Lopes (http://freshmeat.net/users/paol/)
  Saturday, March 20th 2004 09:03

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Audio Tag Tool (formerly MP3 Tag Tool) is a program to manage the
information fields in MP3 and Ogg Vorbis files, commonly called tags. It
can be used to edit tags one by one, but the most useful features are mass
tag and mass rename. These are designed to tag or rename hundreds of files
at once, in any desired format.

Changes: This release adds an advanced mode for editing ID3v2 tags
(automatic tagging can now get information from the file's location) and
--disable-mp3 and --disable-vorbis options to configure.

  by jart (http://freshmeat.net/users/jart/)
  Saturday, March 20th 2004 14:53

Internet :: Proxy Servers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: BFilter is a smart filtering HTTP proxy. It removes ads, webbugs,
and popups. Unlike the majority of similar tools, it doesn't rely on a
list of blocked URLs, but instead parses HTML on the fly, and detects ads
using a set of heuristic rules. BFilter has a built-in JavaScript engine
which detects popups and js-generated ads.

Changes: This release fixes a serious data corruption bug and a few minor
bugs.

Communications :: Email
Database :: Front-Ends
Information Management

About: Bugzero is a one-for-all product for software bug tracking, defect
issue incident tracking, trouble ticketing, help desk support, and
customer email management. It is simple to use and avoids complexity by
making the tasks or projects separate and independent. It is platform and
database system independent (based on Java). It supports multiple
projects, group and field level access control, automatic bug assignment,
file attachment, email notification, inbound email management, metric
reports, and workflow. It also features advanced search capability, a
comprehensive bug audit trail, CVS/Perforce version control integration,
self registration to public projects, and an easy to use system
administration tool for project configuration and user account management.

Changes: A query based on the author now searches after both usernames and
full names. The Cc email addresses are now separated from the To address
in the notification email. A new "USER" data type was added for the custom
fields. The username in the URL is now encoded using Javascript escape.
Some other minor improvements were also made.

About: Cvsplot is a Perl script which analyzes the history of a
CVS-managed project. The script executes on a set of files, analyzes their
history, and automatically generates graphs that plot lines of code,
number of files, and user contributions against time. It supports both
UNIX and Windows environments.

Changes: This release makes sure the "exit" command is added to all
gnuplot scripts when generating graphical plots. On Win32, the userdata
plots were not being plotted at all, as the gnuplot process would
terminate before the output file was flushed and closed.

  by Eric Weaver (http://freshmeat.net/users/weav/)
  Saturday, March 20th 2004 03:19

Database :: Front-Ends

About: DBIx::Perform emulates the Informix Perform character
terminal-based database query and update utility. Given a
screen-description file in the style of the original's, it presents a
curses-implemented form for handling a table. If the local version of
DBD::whatever supports the column_info method, it can generate such a
description file from the schema.

[015] - DSPAM 2.11.0 (Development)
  by Network Dweebs Corporation (http://freshmeat.net/users/jzdziarski/)
  Saturday, March 20th 2004 03:19

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet
Text Processing :: Filters

About: DSPAM is a server-side statistical anti-spam agent for Unix email
servers. It masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and
effectively filters spam using a combination of de-obfuscation techniques,
specialized algorithms, and statistical analysis. The result is an
administratively maintenance-free, self-learning anti-spam tool. DSPAM has
yielded real-world success rates beyond 99.9% accuracy with less than a
0.01% chance of false positives.

Changes: This release implements TuM (Train-until-Mature) training mode
for less volatile metadata changes. It improves header management for
developers so that only libdspam.h must be referenced, adds support for
header-based signatures for users who wish to bounce messages to
quarantine, and includes some minor bugfixes and command line
improvements.

Software Development :: Documentation

About: Epydoc is a tool for generating API documentation for Python
modules, based on their inline documentation strings (docstrings). It
produces HTML output (similar to the output produced by Javadoc) and LaTeX
output. It supports four markup languages for documentation strings:
Epytext, Javadoc, ReStructuredText, and plain text.

Changes: This version adds support for Zope ExtensionClasses, support for
modules that define __path__, two new documentation fields (@include and
@undocumented), an updated GUI, and various bugfixes.

  Saturday, March 20th 2004 09:04

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games

About: Eremit is a remake of an old classic board game. The ball you jump
over is removed. The goal is to just have one ball left in the end. This
is an excellent example of the power of SDL. It is a complete game that is
implemented with under 400 lines of code.

Changes: This release adds some instructions on how to play the game,
fixes a huge gameplay bug that made it possible to move just about
everywhere, and cleans some parts of the code.

[020] - fwsnort 0.6.2
  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Saturday, March 20th 2004 14:56

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: fwsnort translates snort rules into an equivalent iptables ruleset.
By making use of the iptables string match module, fwsnort can detect
application layer signatures which exist in many snort rules. fwsnort adds
a --hex-string option to iptables, which allows snort rules that contain
hex characters to be input directly into iptables rulesets without
modification. In addition, fwsnort makes use of the IPTables::Parse Perl
module in order to (optionally) restrict the snort rule translation to
only those rules that specify traffic that could potentially be allowed
through an existing iptables policy.

Changes: The --internal-net and --dmz-net options were added so that
internal and DMZ networks can be manually specified without having to
parse the output of ifconfig. This is most useful for running fwsnort on a
Linux system that is acting as a bridge where no IP addresses are assigned
to the interfaces. A bugfix was made for missing icmp-port-unreachable
rejects for UDP packets.

  Saturday, March 20th 2004 14:30

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Utilities

About: galculator is a GTK 2 based scientific calculator supporting
algebraic mode, RPN, and formula entry mode. Features include arithmetic
operations plus precedence handling, full keypad support, trigonometric
functions, power, square root, natural and common logarithm, constants (e,
PI), and inverse and hyperbolic functions. It supports different number
bases (decimal, hexadecimal, octal, and binary) and angle bases (radiant,
degree, and grad).

Changes: The parser code for formula entry mode was rewritten (with flex)
and now supports decimal, hexadecimal, binary, and octal numbers and
string operation identifiers. The big new feature for this release is the
ability to add user-defined functions. The most important bugfix makes all
buttons work again.

Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy

About: Globulation is an innovative high quality real-time strategy which
minimizes micro-management by automatically assigning tasks to the units.
The player has to choose the number of units they want for the different
tasks, and the units will do their best to satisfy the requests. This
allows the player to manage more units and to focus on the strategy.

Changes: In this release, the network layer was rewritten, YOG was much
improved, lots of bugs were fixed, and features were added to the SGSL and
GUI.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: GNU Libidn is an implementation of the Stringprep, Punycode, and
IDNA specifications defined by the IETF Internationalized Domain Names
(IDN) working group. It is used to prepare internationalized strings (such
as domain name labels, usernames, and passwords) in order to increase the
likelihood that string input and string comparison work in ways that make
sense for typical users throughout the world. The library contains a
generic Stringprep implementation that does Unicode 3.2 NFKC
normalization, mapping and prohibition of characters, and bidirectional
character handling. Profiles for iSCSI, Kerberos 5, Nameprep, SASL, and
XMPP are included. Punycode and ASCII Compatible Encoding (ACE) via IDNA
are supported.

Changes: A Java implementation was added, but currently only Punycode is
ported. The command line tool has been translated into Danish, French,
Polish, and Serbian. The TLD table tests now support the ".no" TLD.

  Saturday, March 20th 2004 23:06

System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: Linux Bandwidth Arbitrator allows beginning-to-advanced network
administrators to control bandwidth. It is designed to be completely
turn-key in its default configuration. You just plug it into your network
trunk, and it self configures and immediately starts slowing "bandwidth
hogs". It can be configured to target specific applications such as Kazaa,
IMAP, and POP. It also comes with denial of service protection and a
special reservation system for voice and video traffic QOS.

Changes: This version is now up to date with the 8.22 GPL. It has also
combined the ability to do host limiting with QOS. This allows the QOS
release, which formally did not allow bandwidth limiting by host, to
provide QOS for voice traffic while at the same time allowing you to set
bandwidth cap limits for up to 500 individual hosts.

  Saturday, March 20th 2004 13:45

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: Slash'EM (Super Lotsa Added Stuff Hack -- Extended Magic) is a
variant of the hugely popular roguelike game NetHack. It adds more
monsters, more objects, more dungeon levels, more roles, and more races,
shopkeeper services, and techniques for you to use, and invisible objects
and gypsies for those who feel lucky. It also comes with a GTK windowing
interface and higher resolution tile sets as options.

Changes: This is the second beta release of Slash'EM Vampire. The native
MS-Windows graphical interface has been given a new branding. The surgery
technique no longer causes the game to crash. A number of problems with
exploding grenades (which caused particular problems in Grund's
stronghold) have been fixed. Several less serious bugs have also been
fixed.
