Information Management
Office/Business :: Scheduling
Software Development

About: 2do is a simple to-do list manager written in PHP and using a MySQL
database backend. It supports unlimited numbers of projects, has templated
HTML allowing for complete customisation, and can be publically viewable
by all, or can be protected by passwords. Administration is done via
simple Web-based forms.

Changes: This release adds the ability to password protect individual
projects, cleans the entire front page interface, making the rendered page
wider and clearer, and adds reverse sorting, an option to toggle CSV
importing or exporting, and minor bugfixes.

Software Development :: Widget Sets

About: ActiveUI is a modern cross-browser Web GUI toolkit. It provides the
full set of standard widgets (grid, tree, tabs, buttons, menu, etc.) with
a fast and convenient data-binding interface. It uses advanced client-side
capabilities (JavaScript/XML/DHTML/CSS) to deliver browser-based
applications of the same quality and performance as standard desktop
software (no install, no plug-ins, instant feedback, no round-trip
delays). It is 100% client-side and integrates easily with any type of
back-end.

Changes: This release fixes minor bugs related to row selection and
sorting.

System :: Networking

About: arpdetect is a Perl script that detects when the network you're
connected to changes. It does this by detecting changes in the MAC
address of a host you specify (usually a router), and executing various
commands. Actions can be re-run after a predetermined period.

Changes: A bug where arpdetect wouldn't work after it fell asleep in FC1
has been fixed.

  Wednesday, December 17th 2003 19:05

System :: Monitoring

About: bbwatch is a Perl- and Curses-based Big Brother monitoring tool.
It features audible alerts, X background updating, acknowledgement of
alerts, and direct tests and connections for broken services.

Changes: A blocking bug fixed when several persons used bbwatch on the
same computer has been fixed. The other main improvement is the splitting
of the configuration from the main file to a specific config file,
system-wide or user-specific. The config is now independent from the
software updates. A Debian package is available.

  Wednesday, December 17th 2003 11:08

System :: Archiving

About: Burn.awk is a character-mode, dialog-based frontend to  the
cdrtools burning software. It is only designed to burn data CD-R or
CD-RW, but does it well. Despite its small size it is quite versatile. It
supports SCSI writers (and IDE too, through Linux ide-scsi gateway), SCSI
or IDE CDROMs, limited auto-detection, ISO image extraction, mastering
and burning, direct burning of a directory, direct CD-to-CD copy, tray

[010] - CGIScripter 1.62
  by David Simpson (http://freshmeat.net/users/dsimpson1/)
  Wednesday, December 17th 2003 20:33

About: CGIScripter automates the development of Perl CGI scripts for
MySQL, Oracle, Access, and SQL Server databases. Perl CGI scripts are
generated for each form specified within CGIScripter and include
customized data entry and data validation for each Web form. The Perl CGI
scripts generated by CGIScripter also provide support for
insert/update/view/delete of GIF/JPEG images via a Web-based interface.
Critical Web form processing parameters are hard-coded within each script
instead of being accepted via POST or GET operations in order to prevent
Web form hijacking.

Changes: Support was added for generating Perl CGI scripts for Access and
SQL Server databases for both Windows and UNIX Web servers. On
UNIX/Linux/MacOS X servers, Perl CGI scripts which are generated for
Access and SQL Server databases do not require ODBC drivers to be licensed
or installed on the Web server. These scripts utilize a DBI:Proxy
connection to ODBC drivers available on the database server. The demo
version of CGIScripter is now fully functional for generating Perl CGI
scripts and saving configuration files.

  Wednesday, December 17th 2003 14:45

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management :: Link Checking

About: Checkbot is a tool to verify links on a set of HTML pages. Checkbot
can check a single document, or a set of documents on one or more servers.
Checkbot creates a report which summarizes all links which caused some
kind of warning or error.

Changes: A new --suppress option allows response code/URL combinations to
not be reported as problems. Checkbot warnings are now handled as
pseudo-HTTP status messages. There is more robust handling of (lack of)
status messages, and documentation fixes.

[014] - dataMiner 0.20.0
  by Jason Hines (http://freshmeat.net/users/openface/)
  Wednesday, December 17th 2003 08:04

Database :: Front-Ends

About: (php)dataMiner is a set of PHP classes used to browse, search, and
manipulate data stored in a database. It is perfect for a Web site
administrative backend. It supports skins. It is easily configurable to
adhere to data "rules" such as cross-referencing other database tables,
file uploads, data imports and exports, and more. It uses Metabase for
database access, allowing database independence.

Changes: Many features were added, such as database independence using
Metabase, new formatting rules for better customization of layout, and
others. Many bugs were fixed. It now correctly handles magic_quotes and
register_globals in PHP. A bug in page numbering was fixed. The search

[037] - Linux Bandwidth Arbitrator 4.3 (Guide)
  by astormchaser (http://freshmeat.net/users/astormchaser/)
  Wednesday, December 17th 2003 11:07

System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: Linux Bandwidth Arbitrator allows beginning-to-advanced network
administrators to control bandwidth. It is designed to be completely
turn-key in its default configuration. You just plug it into your network
trunk, and it self configures and immediately starts slowing "bandwidth
hogs". It can be configured to target specific applications such as Kazaa,
IMAP, and POP. It also comes with denial of service protection and a
special reservation system for voice and video traffic QOS.

Changes: This user guide has a new section explaining how the default
rules differ from custom rules. It will help arbitrator users analyze and
understand how the bandwidth arbitrator works in turn key mode, thus
differentiating it from many other shaping tools. It is also updated with
changes detailing how to set up the arbitrator to block out going
connections to prevent your network from creating spam traffic or ICMP
storms.

and is ideal for helping to protect your "Other OS" LAN from harm,
especially when used in conjunction with a firewall and other Internet
proxy servers. It is designed to enable scanning of incoming email
messages for viruses, worms, trojans, spam, and harmful attachments.
Because viewing HTML email can enable a spammer to validate an email
address (via Web bugs), it can also provide HTML stripping.

Changes: This release fixes header corruption and viruses getting through
when renattach was enabled, along with other changes.

  Wednesday, December 17th 2003 14:33

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: PDNS is an advanced high performance authoritative nameserver with
a host of backends. Besides plain BIND configuration files, PDNS reads
information from MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL and many other databases.
Backends can easily be written in any language, and a sample Perl backend
is provided. PDNS powers http://express.powerdns.com, a Web-based DNS
maintenance site, and the top level domain .TK.

Changes: 64-bit userland (Opteron) support was added, some annoying bugs
in netmask handling were fixed, and MySQL error logging was improved. The
recursor can now survive prolonged disconnections from the Internet, which
previously caused the root records to expire. The LDAP backend now
supports TLS connections.
