[001] - AltioLive Studio 3.0.4
  by Altio Developer Program (http://freshmeat.net/users/altiodev/)
  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 09:51

Database :: Front-Ends
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: AltioLive Studio enables users to quickly build interactive front
ends to complex Web based applications. Included are a Visual GUI
builder, a backend integration tool, and other development tools, which
allow developers to build the interface for their applications quickly,
remotely, and without touching an XML or Java editor, so that they can
get on with the real nuts and bolts of the business logic on the
backend.

Changes: Text fields of type "I" now accept numbers much larger than 20
billion. Labels that are defined by data now print correctly. The demo
login handler now works in Websphere 4.x as it did in 3.0.2 and previous
versions.

[002] - autopackage 0.3
  by Mike Hearn (http://freshmeat.net/users/mhearn/)
  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 14:46

System :: Software Distribution
System :: Software Distribution Tools

About: autopackage is a package manager for Linux that is intended to sort
out RPM hell by making it much easier to create distribution-neutral
packages that can be downloaded and run, a la InstallShield. It has
several advantages over both the RPM approach and the Windows
installer-stub system. Although the packages are "smart" and can adapt to
the computer on which they are installing, there is minimal overhead
involved on the package itself. Using autopackage, you can create .package
files and link them to the autopackage network for easy installation using
a distributed apt-style system. These packages also have many other
powerful features not found in other systems.

Changes: New in this release is a GTK 2-based front end that gives
graphical feedback on the progress of the installation. Autopackage
.package files can now download the needed support code and GTK front end
on demand, so all your users need to do is run the file; the setup will
happen automatically. There are also new tools to help you build portable
and relocatable binaries. Many bugs have been fixed and features added,
along with the usual spit and polish to make building and installing
packages easier than before.

  by Arnaud DUPUIS (http://freshmeat.net/users/L_Abbe/)
  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 20:01

Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: Battosai.pm allows you to simply open, write, rewrite, and read
configuration files with your Perl scripts.

Changes: The lireConfAdv2() was added, which permits one to specify the
separator between keys and values in the configuration file. The white
lines bug was fixed. The code is now lighter.

[004] - Be4gle 0.9.2
  by dataphile (http://freshmeat.net/users/dataphile/)
  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 05:12

About: Be4gle is a Web services layer for relational databases. It allows
applications to access data via SOAP, without having to program a single
line of code. If the SOAP client is a Web browser, it also serves HTML,
generated from meta-data, in parallel with the XML so that unfamiliar data
can be browsed effortlesly. For updating data, XML templates are parsed
and served as Web forms.

Changes: The null pointer exception error that occurred on null value
fields have been fixed. The connection tree managing persistence has been
changed for the better.

[005] - bigFORTH/MINOS 2.0.11
  by Bernd Paysan (http://freshmeat.net/users/forthy/)
  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 07:58

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries

About: bigFORTH is a native code Forth. It was originally developed on the
Atari ST for the Motorola 68k processor and was recently ported to Intel
386, running under a DOS extender (GO32). bigFORTH is available for Linux
and Windows 95/98/NT in pre-beta-test. This version is available under
GPL. The most striking new feature is the graphical user interface MINOS
and the form editor Theseus. MINOS is a graphic user interface (GUI) for
X, written for bigFORTH-Linux and bigFORTH-Win32. It includes a rapid GUI
developement editor (Theseus).

Changes: This version fixes a few bugs, like FORTH-WORDLIST being
commented out, and problems with read only filesystems (like those used by
Knoppix). The OpenGL bindings were also fixed. A new setup script for Inno
Setup 3.x and a Windows distribution were created. The Makefile and
configure process were fixed so that the Windows version can be compiled
from source with "./configure; make" when Cygwin is installed. The MINOS
version was increased to 1.0.0, as there are few further changes to
expect.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Office/Business :: Groupware

About: Booby is a multiuser, multilanguage, fully themeable Web-based
desktop application which provides online management for bookmarks,
contacts, todos, notes, and news. It is written in PHP and is mostly
database independent by using the database abstraction layer 'ADOdb'. It
is fully themeable (using Smarty). It is based on a generic MVC design
pattern/framework that uses items with a potential hierarchical
relationship as its base.

Changes: This release adds minor bugfixes and support for the Russian
language.

  by Ken Schenke (http://freshmeat.net/users/kschenke/)
  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 20:12

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers

About: BookmarkBridge is a small, easy to use, multi-platform, GUI-based
utility that allows the user to share bookmarks between all their
browsers. The user runs it periodically to synchronize between the
browsers.

Changes: In addition to several minor bug fixes, support for the Konqueror
and Mozilla Firebird browsers was added with this release. BookmarkBridge
now supports merging bookmarks between Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla
Navigator, Mozilla Firebird, and Konqueror. BookmarkBridge will now
preserve the order of bookmarks within each browser before and after a
merge. In addition, separators in Mozilla are now preserved.

  by Chris A. Epler (http://freshmeat.net/users/cepler/)
  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 14:49

Games/Entertainment :: Multi-User Dungeons (MUD)

About: CircleMUD is a multi-user dungeon game system (MUD). It is a
derivative of DikuMUD Gamma 0.0. A MUD (Multiple User Dimension or
Multiple User Dungeon) is a computer program which allows Internet users
from around the world to connect to it, create fictional characters for
themselves, and then interact with other real users as well as
computer-generated entities in a virtual environment.

[010] - Coherent Mail Gateway 0.5.0
  by Thomas Worthington (http://freshmeat.net/users/nagora/)
  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 14:44

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3

About: Coherent Mail Gateway is intended to be a very easy to set up MTA
using SMTP and POP3. Greylisting is used on the SMTP daemon to reduce
spam. In addition, quite a lot of checks on the validity of information
from the SMTP client (such as claimed server name and sender) are carried
out, and anyone caught telling lies is disconnected. As well as
greylisting, black and white listing is also supported. The target market
is small offices and home users with static IPs. Others can use the
system but its value will be limited.

Changes: Sending to Yahoo! and AOL now works. Instant and auto queueing
were sped up. Various bugs have been squashed.

  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 09:47

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

About: Connect Daily, a Web-based calendaring system, allows multiple
users to add and edit calendar events using a Web browser. The calendar
display can be directly integrated into your Web site. It provides
advanced capabilities for managing resources and facilities. The approval
processes allow many users to edit calendars, with the assurance that all
items added are approved. It supports event download to MS Outlook and
Palm OS PDAs. Authentication to LDAP directories is also supported.

Changes: This release fixes an issue which occurred when using Oracle 9i
as the data store. MAILTO HREFs were broken on the item approver page. A
query error was returning the wrong people as item approvers. It also
fixes an issue on the View calendar page, where the link for adding new
items was not consistent with the new security model, and the case in
which an individual had ADD USER, but not EDIT USER. 12 minor defects have
been repaired.

[013] - CxxTest 3.5.1
  by Erez Volk (http://freshmeat.net/users/e1/)
  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 11:57

Software Development :: Testing

About: CxxTest is a JUnit/CppUnit/xUnit-like framework for C++ that
doesn't require RTTI, member template functions, exception handling, or
any external libraries (including memory management, file/console I/O, or
graphics libraries). It is distributed entirely as a set of header files
which makes it extremely portable and usable.

Changes: This release adds TS_ASSERT_SAME_DATA, --include, and
--part/--root. Test runners should now compile somewhat faster and with
more strict compiler warnings. Also, the Win32 GUI is much better now.

[017] - Email address validation component 2003.09.03
  by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 17:52

Internet

About: This is a PHP class that attempts to validate a given e-mail
address at three levels: matching the address against a RFC compliant
regular expression, verifing the existence of the destination SMTP server
by verifying the respective DNS MX record, and connecting to that server
to see if the given address is accepted as a valid recipient. The class
also features a debugging output option that lets you see the remote SMTP
server connection and data exchange dialog to see the real cause why an
apparently valid address may not be accepting messages.

Changes: An SMTP server data transfer timeout value can be set. The
initiation of the SMTP message data sending to get an eventual rejection
of the address being validated has been added.

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: eZ publish is an open source content management system and
development framework. As a content management system (CMS) it's most
notable feature is its revolutionary, fully customizable, and extendable
content model. This is also what makes it suitable as a platform for
general Web development. Its stand-alone libraries can be used for
cross-platform, database independent PHP projects. eZ publish is also well
suited for news publishing, e-commerce (B2B and B2C), portals, and
corporate Web sites, intranets, and extranets. eZ publish is dual licenced
between GPL and the eZ publish professional licence.

Changes: All text strings in eZ publish have been frozen so that they can
be translated for the final release. The admin email address can be
controlled by one ini setting. The new script functionality has been
integrated with all scripts in eZ publish. The old API reference view has
been brought in a similar way as it was in the old SDK. The setup has been
given an overhaul. The search statistics page now has a button to reset
the stats. The WebDAV library has been improved.

[023] - File Service Protocol 2.8.1 beta 12 (Beta)
  by Radim Kolar (http://freshmeat.net/users/hsn/)
  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 18:08

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: FSP is a UDP-based protocol for transferring files. It has many
benefits over FTP, mainly for running anonymous archives. It is usable on
lines with high packet loss ratio (70% WiFi), can go behind firewalls and
unoticed by port scans (because of UDP), does not overload networks when
hosting ISOs or movies, share files on modem lines without eating all of
the bandwidth, and keeps lamers away from your site (they don't know how
to get to it). This project is active continuation of the FSP code base
(abandoned for the last 5 years).

Changes: The port setting in the config file works. The manual pages for
fprocmd, fgetcmd, and fgrabcmd are updated. fstatcmd now uses remote
wildcard expansion. The fgetcmd and fgrabcmd commands are merged. A new
keyid is recorded from a client when a serving session times out.
fget/fgrab can now set file timestamps to remote date. Cygwin now has
different built-in defaults; the default mode of fget/grab changed to
unique fnames.

[033] - General Applet Interface Library 0.5.0pre2

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers :: Window Maker :: Applets

About: The goal of the General Applet Interface Library is to give
programmers a simple yet powerful applet interface. This library supports
both dockapps and GNOME 2 panel applets. The applet programmer doesn't
have to care about if the applet will be used on the Gnome panel or in the
dock. The library handles that. Over 50% of the code in a dockapp and a
GNOME 2 Panel applet does only one thing, setting up the applet window.
With GAI, this can be reduced to just a few lines of code.

[042] - Jack Audio Connection Kit 0.80.0
  by taybin (http://freshmeat.net/users/taybin/)
  Wednesday, September 3rd 2003 18:10

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: JACK is a low-latency audio server. It can connect a number of
different applications to an audio device, as well as allowing them to
share audio between themselves. Its clients can run in their own processes
(i.e., as normal applications), or can they can run within the JACK server
(as a "plugin"). JACK is different from other audio server efforts in that
it has been designed from the ground up to be suitable for professional
audio work. This means that it focuses on two key areas: synchronous
execution of all clients, and low latency operation.

Changes: There is a new transport API, and a new example client for
controlling the transport. The first xrun on jackd startup is ignored. It
is much more portable across processors. jackd -v (--verbose) now prints
useful transport state change information for debugging JACK and clients.
It also reports timeout info in seconds, not microseconds. There is a new
dummy driver. The incomplete Solaris driver has been removed. Support has
been added for asymmetric soundcards (for example, the es1968 chip has
interleaved stereo for playback but non-interleaved stereo for capture).
It now enforces power-of-two-sized buffer lengths. There are many minor
bugfixes.

colorization (customizable) and authentic Vim syntax highlighting. This
program provides an excellent method of presenting
programs/HTML/scripts/etc. on the Web. It fully supports valid CSS and
XHTML-1.0/Transitional or Strict with HTMLtidy.

Changes: The HTML output has been cleaned up. The Latin1 charset is no
longer used; it now detects the default charset and outputs accordingly.
Branding and links have been fixed. The /bin/sh location dependency has
been removed; it now uses /usr/bin/env. A file header has been added to
the tidied output.

Security

About: VPNmonitor is a Java application for observing network traffic.
Its purpose is to stress the deficiency in wireless secure connections.
Messages sent between computer nodes are graphically represented. VPN
connections (PPTP and IPSec) and SSL connections (HTTPS) are shown in
different colors, and messages that are not of the above types are dumped
onto the screen. Connection statistics are collected during the monitor
session.

Changes: This version features a bugfix to recognize the change in
connection type from unsecured connection to secured connection. Static
IP addresses can now be sorted by clicking the column headers. A status
bar was added, as was an "about" menu item. The radius of the graphical
representation of the network will now change according to the program's
window size.

Office/Business :: Financial

About: wallstreet9 is a small home banking application that uses
HBCI4Java for HBCI functionality. It is not intended to become a
high-end home banking application, but can be used as a test application
for your HBCI account or as a demonstration of how to use HBCI4Java.

Changes: This release just integrates all the changes made to HBCI4Java,
so that it should work reliably with HBCI4Java 2.4.3.

About: white_dune is a graphical VRML97 editor. VRML97 (Virtual Reality
Modeling Language) is the ISO standard for displaying 3D data over the Web
via browser plugins. It has support for animation, realtime interaction
and multimedia (image, movie, sound). White_dune can read VRML97 files,
display and let the user change the scenegraph/fields, and load and store
x3d (the next generation VRML XML format) files if configured to work with
the nist.gov x3d translators. It also has support for stereoscopic view
via "quadbuffer"-capable stereo visuals, and support for 3D input devices
like a joystick, spaceball, or magnetic tracker.

Changes: Rotation of controlpoints after primitive to nurbssurface
conversion was added to provide better support for x-symmetric modeling. A
crash caused by false handling of handles was fixed.
