Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players :: MP3

About: abcde is a frontend to cdparanoia, wget, cd-discid, id3, and your
favorite Ogg/MP3/Flac encoder (Oggenc is the default). It grabs an entire
CD and converts each track to Ogg/MP3/Flac, then comments or ID3-tags each
file, all with one command. It supports multiple output in a single CD
read, volume normalization, gapless encoding (with Lame), parallelization,
SMP, HTTP proxies, customizable filename organization and munging,
playlist generation, and remote distributed encoding via distmp3.

Changes: Default behaviour of VAOUTPUTFORMAT output was changed to avoid
multiple directories for a same album. Track wavs are padded with 0 so if
you want to burn those wavs just cdrecord *.wav will do it. "KEEPWAVS" was
added as a variable to keep those wavs. Documentation comments were added
about OUTPUTTYPE, and abcde.conf was cleaned up.

[007] - BBStatus 2.0RC7
  by Tarhon-Onu Victor (http://freshmeat.net/users/mituc/)
  Thursday, April 17th 2003 06:09

About: BBStatus is an IP accounting package, and an SNMP and IP monitoring
tool for Linux. It collects, summarizes, and displays the values from its
database. It can be used for IP accounting (using iptables, you can design
various kinds of accounting filters), SNMP monitoring (collects data
making SNMP requests), IP monitoring (using ping, it stores and summarizes
values like min, avg, max reply time, and packet loss), and client traffic
filtering (using various types of filters). It also provides user based
access so that every user can log in and check the traffic from/through
his/her IP addresses. It requires PostgreSQL, Apache with mod_auth_pgsql,
Perl(Net::SNMP), and RRDTool.

Changes: Database structure changes were made: each SNMP OID has its own
table, three more fields were added to the users table, and there is a
SNMP OID description for each equipment. Other minor changes were also
made; see Migration-HOWTO if you already have a previous version
installed. Various bugfixes, CGI forms changes, and improvements were
made, and permissions in the RPM version have been fixed.

  Thursday, April 17th 2003 11:32

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Office/Business :: Groupware

About: Booby is a multiuser, multilanguage, fully themeable Web-based
desktop application which provides online management for bookmarks,
contacts, todo's, and notes. It is written in PHP and is mostly database
independent by using the database abstraction layer 'ADOdb'. It is fully
themeable (using Smarty).

Changes: This release works without using global parameters, so it will
work with the latest PHP versions that have register_globals off (this is
so by default). The login procedure has been reworked (cookie enabled and
proper error handling). Smarty is now fully configurable and a new theme
is added. The latest versions of ADOdb and Smarty are used.

[015] - DansGuardian 2.6.0 (Stable)
  by Daniel Barron (http://freshmeat.net/users/dansguardian/)
  Thursday, April 17th 2003 23:17

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Security

About: DansGuardian is a Web content filtering proxy that uses Squid to do
all the fetching. It filters using multiple methods including, but not
limited to, phrase matching, file extension matching, MIME type matching,
PICS filtering, and URL/domain blocking. It has the ability to switch off
filtering by certain criteria including username, domain name, source IP,
etc. The configurable logging produces a log in an easy to read format. It
has the option to only log text-based pages, thus significantly reducing
redundant information (such as every image on a page).

Changes: This version fixes a URL cache bug which caused it to stop
caching when not enough different URLs were used, a UDS IPC bug that
could lead to FD resource problems, a bug in the SysV script that could
cause terminal sessions to hang on exiting, and fixes the PICS rating
where more than one rating system was used on the same page, along with
numerous other minor bugs.

[016] - darcs 0.9.6
  by David Roundy (http://freshmeat.net/users/droundy/)
  Thursday, April 17th 2003 07:32

Software Development :: Version Control

About: Darcs is an advanced revision control system along the lines of CVS
or arch. It has two particularly distinctive features which differ from
other revision control systems: each copy of the source is a fully
functional branch, and underlying it is a consistent and powerful theory
of patches (the latter being darcs' most important feature).

Changes: This release adds numerous memory, speed, and responsiveness
improvements. It fixes rather serious bugs that showed up when dealing
with an empty repo and when using the "mv" command.

About: db4o (database for objects) is a client/server Java object
database. It features transactions, automatic class recognition,
query-by-example, callback methods, memory files, cascade-on-delete,
multi-threaded access, and Java Webstart and servlet support.

Changes: This release includes a mechanism to automatically store constant
(static final) objects and to reassociate the stored constant instances
with the ones instantiated in the VM. Special querying functionality can
be plugged in for individual classes, and the release comes with a
built-in implementation of StringBuffer. Some minor bugs were also fixed.

[018] - displayusers 1.3
  by Mark Little (http://freshmeat.net/users/marklittleaus/)
  Thursday, April 17th 2003 07:29

About: displayusers generates a user list based on text files in the
user's area. If the data is present, the user is listed in the directory.
The user may optionally display a photo and biographical information. The
program also generates a default email address and home page, but the user
may over-ride default settings. The entry in the list will disappear if
the files are removed, so deleted accounts are automatically removed,
reducing dead links.

Changes: This release allows the placement of an ICQ paging button, and
also allows the Webmaster to disable fields like the photo, on-line
monitor, etc.

is not for you. Feel free to check out xwrits instead. DrWright monitors
keyboard and mouse activity and displays a small meter in the notification
area on your panel. When it starts blinking, you know it's time to take a

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet
Text Processing :: Filters

About: DSPAM is a server-side anti-spam agent for UNIX email servers. It
masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and filters/learns
SPAM using a Bayesian statistical approach which provides an
administratively maintenance-free, self-learning Anti-Spam service. Each
email is broken down into its most interesting tokens, each assigned a
spam probability. All probabilities are then combined to produce a
statistical probability of spam. This approach, applied to a mature corpus
of email, has the potential to yield a 99.5% success rate with only 0.03%
chance of false positives.

Changes: Many calculation changes have been made. Reversal information is
now embedded into every email so that the previous token statistics can be
reversed if the email is spam. Tokenizing has been enhanced to take
uppercase words into account as well as header information.

About: TextureOps is a set of plug-ins for the GIMP related to texture.
Compositing a feathered layer on top of another layer slightly reduces the
contrast in the the feathered region, noticably modifying the texture.
TextureOps contains a "Sharpen Feathering" plug-in to counteract this
effect. Also in TextureOps is a modified version of the standard "Make

About: VULCAN (Viscous Upwind aLgorithm for Complex flow ANalysis) offers
computational fluid dynamics for subsonic speed through hypersonic
turbulent reacting and non-reacting flows on a variety of serial and
parallel computational platforms. The computational cost of propulsion
flow analysis is reduced through the use of special turbulent wall
treatments, multi-grid methods for elliptic and space marching schemes,
and conditioning of the governing equations to reduce numerical stiffness.
Physical modeling capabilities are improved through the inclusion of
models for compressibility, Reynolds stress anisotropies, turbulent
diffusivity, finite rate chemistry, and turbulence/chemistry interaction
effects. VULCAN can simulate two-dimensional, three-dimensional, or
axi-symmetric multi-block problems.

situations, a crash when deleting eventIn/eventOut from Script nodes, and
confusingly mixing 2 dialogs on "File -> Open". There is an error message
if a directory is chosen on "File -> Open". It will always open the first
level of scenegraph on UPDATE_ALL (this is helpful for beginners).

Oracle. It is internationalized and contains translations for English and
German, and has a wizard for the creation of applications over the Web and
supports direct download from the database to Palm PDAs.

Changes: AllTables now shows all tables of the current database and allows
the creation of a Web-based WWWdb application for this table with one
click. SiteMap now generates a sitemap for the whole navigation structure.
The Tools installation works better now, because some bugs were fixed. Red

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: YABS is a template-based blog system. It uses a file-based template
system, with markers for positioning the YABS elements. This allows users
to place specific elements anywhere on the page. The provided template is
both XHTML and CSS compliant, and all output from the classes is XHTML
compliant. YABS allows uploadable CSS files to be used as subthemes, which
are viewer selectable via a drop down list (again, the template dictates
where this appears). It also allows viewer comments, and these can be
disabled on a site-wide, or per-blog basis. It also supports anti-spam
email display, using Dan Benjamin's email encoder.

Changes: WAP, RSS, and email on comment support are now included, along
with numerous other enhancements and bugfixes.
