[001] - Compact Disc Input and Control Library 0.1
  by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
  Tuesday, April 8th 2003 22:36

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
Multimedia :: Video
Software Development :: Libraries

About: This library encapsulates CD-ROM reading and control. Applications
wishing to be oblivious of the OS- and device-dependent properties of a
CD-ROM can use this library. Some support for disk image types like
BIN/CUE and NRG is available, so applications that use this library also
have the ability to read disc images as though they were CDs. A sample
utility for displaying CD info is included.

  by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
  Tuesday, April 8th 2003 10:49

System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Astaro Security Linux is a firewall solution. It does stateful
packet inspection filtering, content filtering, user authentication, virus
scanning, spam protection, VPN with IPSec (PKI for X.509 certificates) and
PPTP, Wireless LAN, VLAN, PPPoE, PPPoA, and much more. With its Web-based
management tool, WebAdmin, and the ability to pull updates via the
Internet, it is pretty easy to manage. It is based on a special hardened
Linux 2.4 distribution where most daemons are running in change-roots and
are protected by kernel capabilities.

Changes: This Up2Date adds a new config option for unsuccessful WebAdmin

  Tuesday, April 8th 2003 01:04

Software Development :: Code Generators
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: b-frame is a framework for rapid J2EE development. It is based on
the assumption that it is possible to create business (i.e. transactional
client server) applications just from knowing their structure. It defines
sets of XML tags for describing databases and applications operating on
these databases (application layer) and template implementations
(implementation layer), respectively. It provides XSLT-stylesheets (core
layer) for merging the user provided application layer and the template
layer into real applications. By default, it comes with a J2EE
implementation layer.

Changes: It is now possible to join tables to list or display groups and
to customize the user input for the select operation. Some bugs were also
fixed.

parameter measurements to searching for transient signals that go bump in
the night, baudline combines fast digital signal processing, versatile
high-speed displays, and continuous capture tools for hunting down and
studying elusive signal characteristics.

Changes: A piano keys window was added which functions as a chromatic
scale controller for the tone generator and play deck. Sample data can now
be streamed to stdout which will allow the building of sophisticated
command line systems. Five other minor commandline features were also
added. Some performance enhancements were done and a large number of bugs
were fixed.

About: eL DAPo is a PHP-based application for managing and querying LDAP
servers. It can rename, modify, and delete LDAP entries, as well as
modify, add, and delete attributes associated with an entry. Search
filters can be changed while a session is open, so users only have to
bind with the LDAP server once. eL DAPo also includes a configuration
file to make it fit well to your current schema.

Changes: A bug was fixed that reported a protocol error with some LDAP
implementations while a blank search filter was used. A bug in the search
result was fixed where an @ symbol in the cn attribute (default attribute
to display for search results) would cause search results to not be
displayed properly. This also resulted in the inability to follow the link
to the detail entry view. This has been fixed for all HTML entities.

  Tuesday, April 8th 2003 13:51

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: mod_auth_aix is an Apache module which allows the Apache Web server
to use AIX Loadable Authentication Modules as its source of basic
authentication. Due to its generic approach, mod_auth_aix should work with
any AIX Loadable Authentication Module, including DCE. "Loadable
Authentication Modules" are AIX's way to extend the identification and
authentication functions of the operating system. They are, to a certain
degree, the AIX equivalent of the PAM and NSS mechanisms known to many
other systems.

Changes: Authentication modules are now loaded with load() instead of
dlopen(). The identification and authentication functions provided by a
loaded module are now resolved with a call to the module's initialization
function instead of resolving them by name. This should improve
compatibility with third party authentication modules.

About: PHP Open Monitor is a Web-based network monitor written with PHP.
It lets you specify the hosts and ports that you wish to monitor. It can
notify you via email/ICQ each time some host/port goes.

Changes: An uptime.php script was added to show the percentage uptime of
hosts and services. It is now possible to receive e-mail notification only
when changes on the network result in a change of the status of a service.
Alias was added to the ip_list.txt file for easy administration.

[064] - Qpopper 4.0.5
  by SvR Marty (http://freshmeat.net/users/svrmarty/)
  Tuesday, April 8th 2003 22:25

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3

About: Qpopper is a widely used server for the POP3 protocol. It includes
TLS/SSL support, very fast start-up times, and reduced I/O at session
close. This server is fully compliant with RFCs 1939 and 2449, and
supports Kerberos V4, if enabled.

Changes: This version adds a debug trace call with the OpenSSL library
version, a 'tls-options' configuration file option, a 'tls-workarounds'
boolean option, a sample xinetd configuration file, additional checks for
networking libraries, adds '--enable-32-bit' and '--enable-64-bit', and a
patch to fix pathname trimming in standalone mode. It fixes a (non-root)
buffer overflow, '-no-mime' appended to user name, and the response
message when identical MDEFs are defined multiple times. STLS errors
(except for timeout) no longer fatal, and LDFLAGS are picked up from the
environment, if set.

About: rb.log is a full-featured weblogger written in Ruby. It features
file uploads, comments, blog- rolling, side-bar editing, bookmarklets, the
 Blogger API, searching, RSS syndication, and archives. It also performs
well on slower machines by regenerating static pages after posts are

Changes: This is a development release. While 1.1 should work fine, 1.0 is
the officially-supported stable release. This version reworks template
invocation, security policy enforcement, and other internals. Searching
has been restructured. Permalinks are differently formatted (though rb.log
remains backwards-compatible with old permalinks). Authors may receive

[067] - Simple C Expat Wrapper 0.2.0
  by Aleix Conchillo Flaque (http://freshmeat.net/users/aleix/)
  Tuesday, April 8th 2003 00:37

Software Development :: Libraries

About: The aim of SCEW is to provide an easy interface to the XML Expat
library. Expat gives an API based on event handling mechanisms to load
the XML tree structure. SCEW provides functions to load and access XML
elements without the need to create the event handling routines and
without the need to rewrite these functions each time a different XML
tree needs to be loaded. It also lets developers access the internal
Expat parser, which means they can still have all the functionality that
Expat library provides. It has functions to create XML trees from scratch
and save them to files.

Changes: New features were added, including the creation of new XML trees.
A lot of the code was rewritten and cleaned up, and some functions were
renamed.

Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Other/Nonlisted Topic

About: The Cards Community Project is an economic system that does not use
currency. Its software tools are used to typeset little 'cards' (which
look like business cards) from plain-text emailable originals. A person's
card tells others about her or his needs and abilities. Community members
do things freely for one another, without asking for payment, and without
bartering. No one keeps score; each person simply takes care that her or
his own life is balanced and unexploited. This system encourages
cooperation and sharing. People who participate are under no obligation to
provide any service, or to continue playing, and there is no possibility
of debt or obligation.

[096] - xps 4.1
  by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
  Tuesday, April 8th 2003 13:54

System :: Monitoring

About: xps dynamically displays in an X Window the Unix processes as a
tree or forest, the roots on the left and the leaf processes on the right.
The status of each process (running, sleeping, stopped, etc.) can be
indicated by a color. Different users appear as different colors. Process
selection can be made per user, all users or through a regular expression
pattern. A process can be selected to show ps information or to send the
process a signal.

Changes: This release fixes minor building bugs (e.g., in the RPM spec
file) and adds a more idiomatic automake. It works with more non-GNU makes
(e.g., BSD's). Building outside source tree works now.
