Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Ampoliros is an advanced and easy to use distributed PHP Web
applications platform, featuring a powerful XML-RPC and SOAP interface. It
is suitable as an Internet/Intranet development and deployment system. It
has a very strong modular architecture and allows very fast deployment of
Web solutions.

[002] - Anti-Spam SMTP Proxy 0.1.5
  by John Hanna (http://freshmeat.net/users/jhanna777/)
  Thursday, March 27th 2003 13:13

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: The Anti-Spam SMTP Proxy (ASSP) Server project aims to create an
open source platform independent SMTP Proxy server which implements
whitelists and Bayesian filtering to help stop unsolicited commercial
email (UCE). Anti-spam tools should be adaptive to new spam and customized
for each site’s email patterns. This easy to use tool works with any mail
transport and achieves these goals requiring no operator intervention
after the  initial setup phase.

Changes: This release fixes an important bug for pipelining ESMTP servers
where clients saw "354 send data followed by CRLF.CRLF", and has a number
of minor fixes.

[003] - bash programmable completion 20030327 (Stable)
  by Ian Macdonald (http://freshmeat.net/users/ianmacd/)
  Thursday, March 27th 2003 01:36

System :: Shells
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities

About: Since v2.04, bash has allowed you to intelligently program and
extend its standard completion behavior to achieve complex command lines
with just a few keystrokes. Imagine typing ssh [Tab] and being able to
complete on hosts from your ~/.ssh/known_hosts files. Or typing man 3 str
[Tab] and getting a list of all string handling functions in the UNIX
manual. mount system: [Tab] would complete on all exported file-systems
from the host called system, while make [Tab] would complete on all
targets in Makefile. This project was conceived to produce programmable
completion routines for the most common Linux/UNIX commands, reducing the
amount of typing sysadmins and programmers need to do on a daily basis.

Changes: /etc/init.d completion will now properly fail to complete for
stand-alone commands with the same name as the init scripts. A minor gdb
completion bug was also fixed.

[005] - Bifrost Firewall iptables GUI 0.9.3-cb2 (Beta)
  by Martin Forest (http://freshmeat.net/users/mforest/)
  Thursday, March 27th 2003 04:30

Internet
Security
System :: Networking

About: Bifrost is a firewall management interface to iptables (iptables
GUI). The system is inspired by Checkpoint, Cisco PIX, and Watchguard
firewall management. With Bifrost you are able to work with incoming and
outgoing traffic flows rather than focusing on interfaces. The system
supports both IPSEC and High Availability. It is even possible to manage
HA from the GUI. Bifrost has an advanced anti-spoofing function. There is
also a very easy-to-use log watch function where you can apply filtering.
Logging is controlled per rule. You can turn on/off logging for a rule on
the fly, and there is built-in protection against log flooding. All
firewall changes are made without interrupt already established
connections. There is also support for traffic marking (mangle), very
useful when you are working with QOS (bandwidth management) and advance
routing such as policy-based routing. If you for some reason need
something extra, it is possible to add your own commands.

Changes: This release adds a few more cosmetic changes. Most Show/View
functions now have either shading or spanning to improve the look. Rule
editing now has data in all table cells.

  Thursday, March 27th 2003 06:02

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Archiving

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs with a
CDR/CDRW recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications. It
supports CD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc- and
ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include
IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed
CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), TAO, DAO, RAW, and
human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote SCSI support and
can access local or remote CD writers.

Changes: The program now tries to catch SIGHUP to avoid hung recorders
after people close X11 by accident. The program also tries to print hints
if the SCSI error looks like a buffer underrun. The first attempt to
support QNX SCSI was implemented. A better SCSI adaptation layer was
written for SCO Unixware. schckeck now tries to check if multiple
scg_open() requests work. An initial (hacky) implementation of a way to
meter the read speed for gnuplot was made. A Rock Ridge Bug in mkisofs was
fixed.

Changes: X font handling and other issues in the dosemu script and make
install were fixed. A vga11x19 font was added, some minor manpage and
documentation fixes were made, and the makefiles was fixed. Debug output
now goes to ~/.dosemu/boot.log by default for dosemu.bin. $_dosmem is now
allowed in ~/.dosemurc, and a warning is given if more than 640K is used
for X or console graphics. midid is now installed by default. Compiler
warnings in msdos.h and comcom.c were fixed, as was a freeze when

[013] - Efisto 0.1.0 (qtefisto)
  by Nils Juergens (http://freshmeat.net/users/nilsjuergens/)
  Thursday, March 27th 2003 19:53

Communications :: Email
Communications :: File Sharing

About: Efisto (Easy File Send To) enables users to send files to anyone
who has email and Web access. When the sender uploads files with the
efisto client, the recipient gets an email with an URL that can be used to
download the files. It features automatic creation of compressed archives,
download notification, expiration of files, and expiration notification.

Changes: This is the first release of a new, QT-based efisto client. It is
not yet complete functional but already quite useable. Most important is
probably support for custom email messages instead of the default message.
It also features file, container, and session manipulation instead of just
file sending.

[014] - File cache class 2003.03.27
  by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
  Thursday, March 27th 2003 19:05

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries

About: File cache class is a PHP Class that can cache arbitrary data in
files in order to reduce the time necessary to regenerate pages or other
types of data that do not change every time they are requested. It
features safe locking of cache files to avoid data corruption caused by
simultaneous accesses during cache file updates, portable locking schemes,
and the ability to set a cache expiry date or timeout period. Cache files
can store user-defined headers besides the cached data, and also standard
headers used in HTTP like content-length:, date:, expires:, etag:, etc. It
has been tested under Linux, SunOS and Windows.

Changes: This release can cache headers which contain special values to be
used to generate the cache. These values are verified to determine if the
cache is up-to-date. Several bugs have been fixed.

  Thursday, March 27th 2003 01:17

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: FreeMarker allows Java servlets to keep graphic design separate
from application logic, by encapsulating HTML in templates. Templates
generate HTML dynamically, using data provided by the servlet. The
template language is powerful and intuitive, the compiler is fast, and the
output approaches the speed of static HTML pages.

Changes: This stable release adds major new functionality, including more
powerful macros, namespaces, and support for third-party JSP taglibs.
Template variables can now contain the full range of Unicode letters, such
as Cyrilic or accented characters. There are also new directives for fine
control over whitespace.

Security
System :: Monitoring

About: FTimes is a system baselining and evidence collection tool. Its
primary purpose is to gather and/or develop information about specified
directories and files in a manner conducive to intrusion analysis. It was
designed to support the following initiatives: content integrity
monitoring, incident response, intrusion analysis, and computer forensics.

Changes: Generally, code was cleaned up and refined as necessary. The
configure/build process has been updated, and several new configure
options were added. The major event for this release was the addition of a
number of new Dig, HashDig, and Map utilities. These tools were designed
to support various workbench activities such as extracting DigString
context, resolving MD5 hashes, and constructing MAC/MACH timelines. The
primary focus of the work effort was to refine these utilities to the
point where they could be released in beta form.

Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: The glrParser template library is a programmer's tool for creation
of syntactical analysers which works with the GLR(0) algorithm. The
library can handle wide ambiguous grammars containing the epsilon-rules.
GLR is generalization of the LR algorithm (published by Marasu Tomita)
which can handle ambiguous grammars. The library implements the GLR(0)
algorithm but defines neither the method of reading input nor the actions
to make when making reductions. The format of the grammar files is defined
but it is easy to make the parser to handle different ones without
modifiyng the library itself.

Software Development
Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Pre-processors

About: Hat (Haskell Tracer) is a tracing and debugging system for Haskell
that can be used for comprehending working programs, and debugging an
incorrect one. It consists of hat-trans, which transforms a program into
one that traces itself using your normal compiler and a runtime library,
and a set of browsing tools that explore the trace after execution of
the program has completed.

Changes: This release adds support for Haskell's hierarchical module
namespaces, includes a tracing version of the base package of standard
hierarchical libraries, supports several common type-system extensions
such as MPTC, fundeps, and existentials, and also has a significant speed
improvement of 20-40%. There are many minor bugfixes and user interface
enhancements.

[066] - TextureOps 0.1
  by Paul Harrison (http://freshmeat.net/users/pfh/)
  Thursday, March 27th 2003 19:56

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: TextureOps is a set of plug-ins for the GIMP related to texture.
Compositing a feathered layer on top of another layer slightly reduces the
contrast in the the feathered region, noticably modifying the texture.
TextureOps contains a "Sharpen Feathering" plug-in to counteract this
effect. Also in TextureOps is a modified version of the standard "Make
Seamless" plug-in that produces a more uniform result, based on similar
principals. Finally, TextureOps provides a simple script for synthesizing
a tilable texture of arbitrary size from a sample using the Sharpen
Feathering plug-in.

  by Valéry Febvre (http://freshmeat.net/users/valos/)
  Thursday, March 27th 2003 13:06

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers :: Window Maker :: Applets

About: wmDrawer is a dockapp which provides a drawer (button bar) from
which applications can be launched.

Changes: A large piece of code was rewritten. It's now a little easier and
the app uses less memory. Several new features: drawer's
pseudo-transparency and adjustable border size, the dockapp's instance
name so the window manager can differentiate between multiple instances,
and a new highlight type (shading). An auto-hide bug and a highlight bug
for horizontal directions were fixed. The buttons' press/release animation
was improved. Support for long options in command line options was added.
The window manager now grabs the command line args with which wmdrawer was
started. This is helpful for WindowMaker.

Software Development :: Libraries

About: XmlBlaster is XML based MOM (Message oriented Middleware) with a
lot of features. It is a publish/subscribe and point-to-point MOM server
which exchanges XML-encoded messages. Communication with the server is
based on CORBA (using JacORB), RMI, XML-RPC, native socket, or a
persistent HTTP plugin. Subscribers can use XPath expressions to filter
the messages they wish to receive and add their own MIME-based filter
plugins. C/C++, Java, Perl and PHP client demos are included in the
xmlBlaster test suite, and Tcl and Python demo clients are scheduled.
XmlBlaster also provides a browser callback framework, allowing browsers
(Netscape, Mozilla, MSIE) to receive instant callbacks over a persistent
http connection. A security plugin framework allows
authentication/authorization in many ways. Currently there are LDAP- and
passwd-based plugins available.

[080] - XPA Messaging 2.1.4 (Stable)
  by Eric Mandel (http://freshmeat.net/users/emandel/)
  Thursday, March 27th 2003 13:05

Communications
Internet
Software Development :: Libraries

About: XPA Messaging provides seamless communication between Unix
programs, including X, Tcl/Tk, and generic select() loops. It provides an
easy way for users to communicate with these XPA-enabled programs by
executing XPA client commands from a shell. Because XPA works both at the
programming level and the shell level, it is a powerful tool for unifying
any environment, offering flexibility in choosing the best level at which
to access XPA services. A program becomes an XPA-enabled server by
defining named points of public access through which data and commands can
be exchanged with other client programs (and users). Using standard TCP
sockets, XPA supports both single-point and broadcast messaging to and
from these servers.
