[001] - abcm2ps 3.4.1 (Development)
  by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
  Monday, March 3rd 2003 08:50

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: A critical bug that affected EPS generation was fixed.

[005] - ARSC Really Simple Chat 2.3
  by Manuel Kiessling (http://freshmeat.net/users/pgod/)
  Monday, March 3rd 2003 05:55

Communications :: Chat

About: ARSC Really Simple Chat is a Web chat system that uses PHP and
MySQL. It works with every browser in existence, even text-based ones, and
it uses the server push technique or, if possible, its own socket server.
It is very simple to install and use ARSC. It includes some important
features, such as operators, kick-ing, whispering, and more. Multiple
rooms and different languages are available. To run ARSC on your site, you
need a Web server that understands PHP, and can connect to a MySQL
database.

Changes: A serious bug that stopped the socket server from responding if
contacted by a client that sends no data was fixed.

Software Development
Software Development :: User Interfaces

About: Axualize is a tool for creating applications by actualizing Java
objects using XML. Axualize is based on JSR-57, and is intended to allow
developers to create Java applications dynamically using XML. To
understand how this could be useful, imagine a J2EE application with
multiple client UIs being generated from Web applications. Using Axualize,
you can present multiple form-based GUI front ends to your application by
dropping in a Web application which builds your GUI applications using
Axualize XML generated with JSP and whatever application framework you
please.

Changes: BSF engines for "Ruby", "JavaScript", and "BeanShell" were added.
"BeanShell" is supported both through BSF and in the default model type. A
"MrRoboto" class was added, which creates documents which implement simple
java.awt.Robot actions. This MrRoboto class implements KeyListener and
MouseListener, and is simply added to each component which will be
recorded. A new BSF schema was created to aid creating documents which
utilize both standard and BSF namespaces. ProcessHandler has been
refactored to behave more like HttpHandler.

  Monday, March 3rd 2003 14:14

Communications :: File Sharing
Database
Internet

About: Babeldoc is a framework and set of applications to process
documents for business-to-business and other Internet/integration
applications. It is primarily intended for text documents, especially XML,
but supports a wide range of operations and data types. It has a
sophisticated journaling system that supports replaying and reprocessing.
Babeldoc is pipeline based and supports numerous ways to combine the
pipeline stages in a dynamically reconfigurable fashion. It has a GUI and
a Web-based console for document processing and monitoring, and comes with
tools for the tranformation of flatfile data to XML, archival, and
cryptography. Additionally it is able to scan various data sources based
on sophisticated constraints.

Changes: The build and runtime system have been completely redone.
Babeldoc is now modular. The build system will scan available modules (in
a path or set or paths) and will build all modules in the dependency
order. Similarly for the runtime system, babeldoc will configure and
initialize the modules at runtime. All functionality is present.

[017] - CyberNeko HTML Parser 0.7.4

  Monday, March 3rd 2003 19:17

Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: NekoHTML is a simple HTML scanner and tag balancer that enables
Java application programmers to parse HTML documents and access the
information using standard XML interfaces. The parser can scan HTML files
and "fix up" many common mistakes that human (and computer) authors make
in writing HTML documents. NekoHTML is written using the Xerces Native
Interface (XNI) that is the foundation of the Xerces2 implementation. This
enables application programmers to use the NekoHTML parser with existing
XNI tools without modification or rewriting code.

Changes: Fixes for several null pointer exceptions caused by passing null
resource identifiers and namespace contexts out to Xerces parser classes,
changes to balancing behavior for several elements as requested by users,
replacement of generic catch exception blocks to help developers using
IDEs that break at Exception, and a new FAQ item to explain how to insert
custom filter components into the pipeline before the tag balancer.

About: DigitizeIt digitizes scanned graphs and charts. Graphs can be
loaded in nearly all common image formats (including gif, tiff, jpeg, bmp,
png, psd, pcx, xbm, xpm, tga, pct), pasted from the clipboard, or imported
via a screenshot. Digitizing of line and scatter plots occurs
automatically, and manual digitizing via mouse clicks is also possible.
Data values are transformed to a specified axes system and can be saved in
ASCII format, ready to use in many other applications such as Microcal
Origin or Excel. Axes can be linear, logarithmic, or reciprocal scale.
Multiple data sets can be defined and edited. Tilted and distorted graphs
can be handled. Comprehensive online help is included. Java 1.4 is
required.

[054] - Postfix 2.0.5 (Stable)
  by Patrick Lenz (http://freshmeat.net/users/scoop/)
  Monday, March 3rd 2003 23:51

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents

About: Postfix is an attempt to provide an alternative to the widely-used
Sendmail program. Postfix attempts to be fast, easy to administer, and
hopefully secure, while at the same time being sendmail compatible enough
to not upset your users.

Changes: The SMTP server's hard and soft error limits are no longer off by
one. With "smtpd_hard_error_limit = 1", Postfix now disconnects after the
first error instead of the second one. The proxymap server no longer
deadlocks when the mydestination parameter setting includes a proxy-mapped
lookup table. Some fixes were made to the documentation.

[061] - RTLab 0.65.0
  by Calin Culianu (http://freshmeat.net/users/cculianu/)
  Monday, March 3rd 2003 19:41

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.

About: RTLab is an RTLinux/RTAI-based data acquisition and control
application. It is designed to help experimenters design and implement
their hard realtime control experiements using higher abstractions than
the services offered by RTAI or RTLinux. It is split into two parts. One
is a user-space series of C++ classes (written for Qt) which implement a
reference application called DAQSystem which is designed to acquire analog
input voltage data and display it on the screen. DAQSystem communicates
with rtlab.o, the realtime kernel module which is the second part of
RTLab. The rtlab.o realtime kernel part is a kernel module that loads into
RTLinux or RTAI and is responsible for driving COMEDI hardware for the
purposes of data acquisition and realtime control. The module is
extensible and features a 'plugin' architecture so that scientists who are
savvy C programmers can easily leverage the existing framework for their
own custom experiment logic. Experiment logic is specified by writing a
kernel modules that gets called back for each scan rtlab.o acquires from
the COMEDI hardware. In addition, data visualization and storage
facilities exist in user space so that experimenters can instantly see
graphical plots of their analog input data as it comes in from the
hardware.

Changes: A non-Realtime build and running option was added, which means
that DAQSystem can run by itself without a Realtime rtlab.o kernel module
to drive data acquisition. While this makes control impossible, for
straight Data Acquisition, it is actually quite good. All acquisition is
done via the threaded class ComediCoprocess, implemented via userspace
COMEDI Commands. Basically, this means you can run RTLab without RTLinux
or RTAI.

encryption and digital signature creation can easily be performed through
a GUI and Key Management operations can easily be carried out through an
intuitive interface.

Changes: The File menu has changed to the Key menu. A context menu for
keys has been added. You can sign an entire key and add a revoker to a
key. A bug when setting ASCII Armor Preferences has been fixed. The File
Manager has been replaced with file operations in the Tools menu, and Key
pairs are initially listed first. There are performance improvements with
large key rings, especially in loading preferences, along with a progress
display at startup for listing of keys. You can delete subkeys of non
