  by twall (http://freshmeat.net/users/twall/)

Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing

About: Abbot is a framework for testing Java GUIs. Using simple XML-based
scripts or Java code, you can launch a GUI, play back arbitrary user
actions on it, and examine its state. It also includes the Costello editor
which facilitates creating, debugging, and modifying scripts. The editor
supports recording arbitrary user semantic actions into a script,
exploring the component hierarchy, running the script, and other features
you'd expect from a script editor. Test scripts may be run as a JUnit
TestCase.

Changes: JTextComponent input (such as cut/copy/paste) is now recorded as
abstract actions, enabling cross-platform support for these functions.
Image capturing and comparing has been added (useful for widgets with
custom graphics). Scripts are now more easily extended with new step
types. More ComponentReference constructors have been added to facilitate
hand-written tests. Many bugs have been fixed.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion

About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.

Changes: Crescendo/diminuendo that end at the start of a line and page
numbering were fixed in this release. An upper voice's dynamics are now
printed above the staff.

[026] - GNATS 4.0 beta 2 (Development)
  by Yngve Svendsen (http://freshmeat.net/users/yngves/)
  Monday, December 2nd 2002 07:32

Software Development :: Bug Tracking
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing

About: GNATS is a portable incident/bug report/help request-tracking
system which runs on UNIX-like operating systems. It easily handles
thousands of problem reports, has been in wide use since the early 90s,
and can do most of its operations over e-mail. Several front end
interfaces exist, including command line, emacs, and Tcl/Tk interfaces.
There are also a number of Web (CGI) interfaces written in scripting
languages like Perl and Python.

Changes: A myriad of bugfixes were made. A new standard field
"Notify-List" was added, replacing the v3 X-GNATS-Notify field. The unused
fields Quarter, Keywords, and Date-Required were removed from std.
dbconfig. Password matching and the gnats-pwconv tool were broken in beta
1, and have been fixed. It is now possible to require fields to be
nonempty on initial PR submission and also to specify that certain fields
can never be empty. The manual has a new chapter called "dbconfig recipes"
with usful dbconfig customizations that also illustrate the great power of
dbconfig. The manual is now complete. Gnatsweb 4.0 beta 4 is included.

[027] - GNU MP 4.1.1
  by egmont (http://freshmeat.net/users/egmont/)
  Monday, December 2nd 2002 15:15

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: GMP is a free library for arbitrary precision arithmetic, operating
on signed integers, rational numbers, and floating point numbers. There is
no limit to the precision, except for the ones implied by available
memory. It has a rich set of functions, and the functions have a regular
interface. It is designed to be as fast as possible, both for small
operands and for huge operands. The speed is achieved by using fullwords
as the basic arithmetic type, by using fast algorithms with carefully
optimized assembly code for the most common inner loops for a lot of CPUs,
and by a general emphasis on speed (instead of simplicity or elegance). It
is believed to be faster than any other similar library. The advantage
increases with the operand sizes for certain operations, since GMP in many
cases has asymptotically faster algorithms.

Changes: This release has some bugfixes and adds support for NetBSD and
OpenBSD SPARC 64.

About: libferris is a virtual filesystem that exposes hierarchical data of
all kinds through a common C++ interface. Access to data is performed
using C++ IOStreams and Extended Attributes (EA) can be attached to each
datum to present metadata. Ferris uses a plugin API to read various data
sources and expose them as contexts and to generate interesting EA.
Current implementations include Native (kernel disk IO with event updates
using fam), xml (mount an xml file as a filesystem), edb (mount a berkeley
database), ffilter (mount an LDAP filter string) and mbox (mount your
mailbox). EA generators include image, audio, and animation decoders.

Changes: This version adds support for reading network headers and async
IO, the HTTP module now supports download-if-modified-since EA and mtime,
there is a size EA, fcat now allows conditional cating based on mtime,
there is a new tool, gfdl, for async downloads, there is HTTP date format
support for ParseTimeString(), the ferris-config.in now uses the prefix
that ferris was configured with, and Context::isSubContextBound() now
delegates to over-mounter if there is one.

very high level of flexibility. It was originally designed to monitor
network protocols (like HTTP or DNS), but is now able to analyse many
other operating system events.

Changes: In this version, the program's features have evolved only a
little, but most of their implementations were completely reworked.
Several features concerning flexiblity have been added, including the
ability to reconfigure the entire system dynamically. Many new components
have been written and the configuration file formats have been completely
modified.

[092] - Zope Weather applet 1.50
  by Jerome Alet (http://freshmeat.net/users/jalet/)
  Monday, December 2nd 2002 07:58

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: The Zope Weather applet allows people to display weather
information for a particular location in Zope, by automatically retrieving
datas from the NOAA's Metar servers from time to time. Highly inspired by
the GNOME Weather applet and Ximian's Evolution MUA, it also displays a
nice icon depending on the current weather conditions.

Changes: Aesthetic changes were made. The add form now features a Metar
Station Code selector. The images which represent the weather conditions
are now cacheable by Web browsers. Minor bugfixes were applied.
