[010] - Code striker 1.4.3
  by David Sitsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/sits/)
  Thursday, May 9th 2002 08:59

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries Software
Development Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: Codestriker is a Perl CGI script that is used for performing code
reviews in a collaborative fashion, as opposed to using unstructured
emails. Authors create code review topics, the nominated reviewers being
automatically notified by email. Reviewers then submit comments against the
code on a per-line basis, and can view comments submitted by the other
reviewers as they are created. Emails are sent to the appropriate parties,
as an alert mechanism, when comments are created. The author is free to
submit comments against the review comments. Once all reviewers have
finished the author has all review comments available in a structured
fashion, instead of a pile of unstructured emails.

Changes: A new popup viewing mode was added. This shows the contents of the
original file from CVS and the proposed new file, side-by-side using
colored diffs. The "-p" and "--show-function-line" flags for diffs and CVS
diff reviews are now supported. URLs in the description or a comment will
be automatically hyperlinked. The bug field upon topic creation can now
handle multiple bug IDs. The tab width can be set dynamically by the user.
There is now a configuration file to make upgrades easier.

  by Pixel (http://freshmeat.net/users/pixel/)
  Thursday, May 9th 2002 14:21

Database :: Front-Ends Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content Software
Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: dev/con php base is a library that contains useful authentication,
date, file, string, and network functions, an event driven application
server with safe link generation, and subsession support that allows you to
combine many modules seamlessly. SQL abstraction layers can generate simple
SQL queries and manipulate nodes in doubly-linked lists and tree
structures. A widget set frees you from writing HTML code, and can be mixed
with your own templates. All of these features are integrated into an
easy-to-use interface, with toolkits for automatic form generation, SQL
search, and more.

Changes: This release moves fulltext search arguments into a new query
object. A limit and offset can be specified for result sets to enable
browsing (admin_panel/tk/dbisearch/). Cursors now know the number of
results they contain (size() in cursor/cursor.class.php). The layout of
database result objects changed (fetch_array() was renamed to get()). The
text color of message boxes is configurable (admin_panel/widgets.php).

[032] - log4j 1.2
  by Ceki Gulcu (http://freshmeat.net/users/cgu/)
  Thursday, May 9th 2002 19:15

Software Development :: Libraries Software Development :: Libraries :: Java
Libraries System :: Logging

About: Log4j is a logging package written in Java. Log4j allows you to log
to a file, a java.io.Writer, a remote server, or a syslog daemon. The
package is designed so that log statements can remain in shipped code
without incurring a high performance cost. One distinctive feature of log4j
is the notion of hierarchical categories. Using categories, it is possible
to select (at runtime) which log statements are output at arbitrary
granularity. Users can choose to implement their own log formats and output
strategies.

Changes: In addition to performance improvements, bugfixes, and other
enhancements, this release adds JMX support, Mapped Diagnostic Contexts,
JDBC logging, a graphical log viewer, and buffered IO capability. One
important change is the replacement of the Category class with the Logger
class and the Priority class with the Level class in order to facilitate
migrating from the JDK 1.4 logging API to log4j. For most practical
purposes, this version can be considered a drop in replacement for 1.1.3.

efficient C programs that generate audio when executed. MP4-SA is a
standard for normative algorithmic sound, that combines an audio signal
processing language (SAOL) with score languages (SASL, and the legacy MIDI
File Format). Under Linux, sfront supports real-time, low-latency audio
input/output, local MIDI input from soundcards, and networked MIDI input
using RTP and SIP. A SIP server hosted on the Berkeley campus manages
sessions. The documentation includes a book about SAOL programming.

Changes: This release adds full support for the March 2002 MPEG Corrigenda
changes to Structured Audio, and also includes many bugfixes. In addition,
the distribution now contains a copy of the SAOL programming book, which
has been re-licensed under the GFDL.

Software Development :: Libraries Software Development :: Widget Sets

About: Todays applications tend to be skinnable: cdplayers, email
notifiers, even operating systems. SkinLF provides a skin system for Java
programs.

Changes: Fixes were made for incoherent Button rendering, a skinned
JToggleButton problem, lack of HTML support in JCheckBox, JMenu Background
problems, painting issues when jprogress bar was used as a renderer in
table/list, and a problem where the Scroll Bar handles were missing when
there were too many values. Buttons with focus now look different, and the
controls for the ToolBar and MenuBar are now different. Support for
SplitPane divider and for JSeparators was added. Themepack properties were
enhanced with integers, strings, and borders. SkinRegion now supports
JRE1.4.

[059] - tinyproxy 1.5.0
  by Robert James Kaes (http://freshmeat.net/users/rjkaes/)
  Thursday, May 9th 2002 14:31

Internet :: WWW/HTTP System :: Networking

About: tinyproxy is a lightweight HTTP proxy designed to do the job with a
minimum of system resource use. It's ideal for small networks in which a
larger HTTP proxy such as Squid might be overkill or a security risk. This
simplicity also makes tinyproxy an ideal candidate for customization; it
takes very little time to read and understand the tinyproxy source, and you
can start adding your own desired features in short order.

Changes: The DNS caching system has been removed. HTTP standards compliance
has been improved, and and all websites should work properly (for example
www.heise.de). There are new security related directives for the CONNECT
method. A ton of memory leaks were fixed, as well as a problem where memory
would be freed twice. A bug in the log rotation code which could cause log
file corruption has been fixed. Code which closed a socket twice (leading
to undefined errors) has been removed. A SEGFAULT in the tunnel code has
been fixed.
