[001] - abcde 1.1.2 (Stable)
  by Robert Woodcock (http://freshmeat.net/users/rcw/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 20:24

abcde is a frontend to cdparanoia, wget, cd-discid, id3, and your favorite
Ogg/MP3 encoder (Oggenc is the default). It grabs an entire CD and converts
each track to Ogg/MP3, then comments or ID3-tags each file, all with one
command. It supports parallelization, SMP, HTTP proxies, customizable
filename organization and munging, playlist generation, and remote
distributed encoding via distmp3.

Changes: Correct handling of nonsensical data when asked which cddb entry
to use, and graceful handling of the lack of CDDB connectivity.

[002] - adsl.sh 2.3 (Default)
  by Captain Blood (http://freshmeat.net/users/captainblood/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 00:57

adsl.sh is a Bash script to easily manage an ADSL pptp connection (most
French "France Telecom" ADSL equipment uses this). It's pre-configured for
this kind of connection, but you can easily edit the script to make it suit
your needs. It can also update your IP adress on dhs.org and/or dyndns.org,
and gracefully restart Apache (if you use VirtualHosts, it's mandatory when
IP changes).

Changes: Checking if your IP adress has changed, and if it didn't, it
doesn't try to update dhs or dyndns, confirmation of a successful update,
checking if the Virtual Hosts really work after an update, and if not, it
keeps gracefully restarting Apache, considering a connection established as
soon as an IP is given even if pppd doesn't say "Login OK" in the logs, and
code cleanups.

[003] - AGT 0.84 (Stable)
  by Andy (http://freshmeat.net/users/ajg/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 00:07

AGT is a simple frontend to iptables. It allows all options to be specified
in a few configuration files, letting you to make complex changes to a
firewall in a few seconds.

Changes: Detection of which netfilter options your kernel has, only running
NAT/mangle if your kernel supports it, and other misc. code cleanups.

  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 20:34

Amaya is a complete web browsing and authoring environment and comes
equipped with a WYSIWYG style of interface, similar to that of the most
popular commercial browsers. With such an interface, users do not need to
know the HTML or CSS languages.

Changes: Amaya includes a collaborative annotation application based on
Resource Description Framework (RDF), XLink, and XPointer.

[005] - AutoInstaller 0.08.4e (Default)
  by Quixy (http://freshmeat.net/users/quixy/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 05:46

AutoInstaller can install and uninstall programs based on the decisions of
plugins. These could include by schedule, at user demand, or a more complex
scenario. It uses plugins to handle tar.gz, tgz, zip, and rpm files through
external programs like zip, tar, unzip, etc., and uses INF files to manage
its settings.

Changes: Some bugfixes and new submenus (with no content). You have to run
the patch.sh script or you can't compile the program.

[006] - BASHISH DR7.2 (Default)
  by arne (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnognulf/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 16:10

Bashish is a theme-engine for bash and other shells (zsh, tcsh, rc, akanga,
ksh and other POSIX-style shells) that will customize nearly all aspects of
the terminal: title, colors, prompt, font, background, etc. With its
scalable design, Bashish aims to create a developer- and user-friendly
theme engine.

Changes: More XTerm extensions are now supported, a BSD cut bug has been
squished, a termsize bug has been fixed, a fvwm2 bug has been killed, a
newline startup bug has been fixed, detection of a MacOS X/NeXTStep
Term.app is now possible, it's possible to use bashish as a separate now
library when writing shellscripts, and speed optimizations and the
obligatory size decreases have been made.

[017] - eZ publish 2.0.0 (Stable)
  by Paul K Egell-Johnsen (http://freshmeat.net/users/pkej/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 11:32

eZ publish is a web based application suite. It delivers functionality
ranging from publishing of news, web logs and diaries, through web shop
functionality like shopping carts and wishlists and forums to intranet
functions like contact handling and bug reporting. The software uses
caching and other optimization techniques to speed up page serving. It
handles users, user preferences and user tracking through a user database
and both cookie-based and non-cookie sessions. It supports statistics for
page views, links followed and banner ads, both images and HTML with
presentation logic.

Changes: Version 2.0 introduces several new modules, better integration
between existing and new modules, and a lot of feature enhancements to the
existing modules. Highlights are: better permission handling, a vastly
improved eZ trade module for online shops, installation tips and
instructions for several different OSes and distros.

[018] - FilterProxy 0.29 (Default)
  by Bob McElrath (http://freshmeat.net/users/mcelrath/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 00:56

FilterProxy is a Perl script that acts as a generic Web proxy. It is unique
in that it allows you to install modules that can perform arbitrary
transformations on HTML (or any other MIME-type) and HTTP headers. It
filters ads by stripping HTML from the page, anonymizes requests by
removing Referer and User-Agent headers, compresses HTML content, and
de-animates animated gifs. Configuration is done via Web-based forms or
editing a Perl data structure.

Changes: More powerful/intuitive Rewrite syntax including "qualifying
predicates" such as 'inside' and 'containing' to require a particular
relationship among tag matches, new matchers ('attrib' matches a single
attribute in a tag so that it may be rewritten, 'encloser' to grab a block
that encloses the initial match, 'tagblock' grabs an entire block,
'balanced' adds in balanced tags, and 'alternate' adds in noscript blocks
to script blocks), HTTP protocol fixes, more helpful error messages from
Rewrite, and a fix for the Rewrite hang on YAHOO rule.

[019] - FTP File System 0.2.1 (kernel 2.4.x)
  by Florin Malita (http://freshmeat.net/users/mali/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 11:54

FTP File System is a Linux kernel module that transparently implements the
file transfer protocol under the VFS layer. It enables the "mounting" of
FTP volumes locally, and offers the full advantage of local file ops for
remote FTP-based resources.

Changes: Sanity checks on mount parameters were added to prevent overflows.
The connecting routine that was failing on some servers was fixed. Other
small fixes were made.

  by Rainer Weikusat (http://freshmeat.net/users/rwkst/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 11:24

ftpd-ssl (formerly linux-ftpd-ssl) is a hacked-up version of Debian's
OpenBSD ftpd port that supports control connections via SSLv3. It is useful
for building tunnels.

Changes: The name was changed to ftpd-ssl. This version is based on 0.17-2
(Debian unstable). It is now distributed as a tarball instead of deb. The
glibc dependancy was eliminated. It was ported to NetBSD-1.5. The OpenSSL
layer is now cleaner.

  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 15:51

Gnopstree is a GNOME application that dynamically displays the currently
running Unix processes as a tree or forest, with the roots on the left and
the leaf processes (with no children) on the right. The status of each
process (running, sleeping, stopped, etc.) can be indicated by a color.
This is a port of xps to GNOME/GTK.

[022] - Hoard Memory Allocator 2.0.4.1 (Default)
  by Emery Berger (http://freshmeat.net/users/emeryberger/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 00:24

Hoard is a scalable memory allocator (malloc replacement) for multithreaded
applications. Hoard can dramatically improve your application's performance
on multiprocessor machines. No changes to your source are necessary; just
link it in. Hoard scales linearly up to at least 14 processors. It works on
Linux, Solaris, IRIX, BeOS, AIX, and Windows NT.

Changes: Conversion of the source to UNIX text format to compile under both
UNIX and Windows.

[023] - Hotkeys 0.5.2 (Default)
  by Anthony Wong (http://freshmeat.net/users/ypwong/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 20:42

The HotKeys daemon listens for the "special" hotkeys that you won't
normally use on your Internet/Multimedia keyboards. The buttons perform
their intended behaviors, such as volume up and down, mute the speaker, or
launch applications. It features an XML-based keycode configuration file
format, which makes it possible to define the hotkeys to launch any
programs you want.

Changes: A fix for the BadValue X protocol error, MX1998 and MX2500
keyboard support, and the amount of volume up and down can be defined.

HPE provides a configurable way of building news boxes collected from many
sources into your site. It is developed in PHP and uses MySQL to store
information. News items are collected from many sources around the Web in
formats ranging from XML/RSS to raw HTML. Users can select news sources,
arrange them on a number of pages, and even browse themes.org themes.

Changes: Many updates in the handling of the news items in the database,
many exports (including RSS.92 and XML-RPC), and many internal fixes.

  by Gabriele Bartolini (http://freshmeat.net/users/angusgb/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 11:40

ht://Check is a link checker derived from ht://Dig. It can retrieve
information through HTTP/1.1 and store it in a MySQL database so that after
a "crawl", ht://Check can return broken links, anchors not found,
content-types, and HTTP status codes summaries. A PHP interface lets the
user to query and view the results directly via the web.

Changes: HTTP Cookies support is now enabled. A new type of link result
was added: 'Not authorized'. A configuration error for the
load_mysql_defaults function was fixed. A disable_cookies attribute was
added in the configuration. The HtDateTime class was updated according to
that in ht://Dig. The PHP interface now features better output, added
images for link results, a bugfix in qryurls.php and listlinks.php, a CSS
file for content visualization, and dynamic language detection (only
English or Italian for now). Small bugs fixes were made.

[032] - Linux trustees 2.4 (Default)
  by Vyacheslav L. Zavadsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/zavadsky/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 16:17

The main goal of the Linux Trustees project is to create an advanced
permission management system for Linux. The solution proposed is mainly
inspired by the approach taken by Novell Netware and the Java security API.
Special objects (called trustees) can be bound to every file or directory.
The trustee object can be used to ensure that access to a file, directory,
or directory with subdirectories is granted (or denied) to a certain user
or group (or all except user or group). Trustees are like POSIX ACLs, but
trustee objects can affect entire subdirectory trees, while ACLs a single
file.

Changes: The main change in this release is that trustees now have very
basic support of the proc filesystem, which leads to a setrusee binary
independent of the syscall number and kernel version. This version supports
2.4.2 and 2.2.18 kernels.

[041] - Net::Server 0.53 (Devel)
  by Paul T Seamons (http://freshmeat.net/users/rhandom/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 16:00

Net::Server is an extensible class-oriented Internet server written in
Perl. The base Net::Server class contains the bulk of the functionality but
can easily be extended with subclasses, process hooks, or overridden
methods. The subclasses included with the distribution include single
process, forking server, pre-forking server, and inetd server. All
subclasses (except for inetd) allow for binding to and accepting on
multiple ports. It has the ability to read a conf file, take command line
arguments, chroot to a different directory, become another user, become
another group, maintain a pid file, and specify log file. Subclasses
contain extended functionality such as min_servers, max_servers, and
spare_servers. Written to be light but powerful, Net::Server is intended to
be the back end layer of FTP, SMTP, HTTP, ad serving, POP3, and other
services, with protocol-specific functions layered on top.

Changes: This release allows a host to be set to '*', allows the server to
bind on all addresses at the box, makes passing of host and proto on the
commandline taint clean, adds setsid functionality, adds a syslog_facility
option (the default is daemon), changes Fork and PreFork to handle
$SIG{CHLD} in a more reliable fashion, and adds parent_read_hook to the
PreFork server.

Pocesti is filter which allows printing of (certain) iso-latin-2
(iso-8859-2) characters from Mozilla. It converts Unicode Postscript output
generated by Mozilla to more conservative iso-latin-2 Postscript. It has
been tested with a GhostScript installation using iso-latin-2 fonts. It can
be also used to replace the ogonkify utility when printing iso-latin-2
pages from Netscape 4.x. As a side effect, it also allows stripping of
unwanted header and footer lines from Postscript output and printing using
other font faces than the default Times-Roman. It is just quick and dirty
temporary solution which should become obsolete when Mozilla is improved to
allow advanced configuration of its internal HTML-to-PS converter.

[068] - VA SystemImager 1.4.0 (Default)
  by Brian Elliott Finley (http://freshmeat.net/users/brianfinley/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 20:30

VA SystemImager automates the installation of Linux to masses of similar
machines. Software distribution, configuration, and operating system
updates are made easy, including updates from one Linux release to another.
It can also be used for content management on Web servers. SystemImager is
most useful in environments with large numbers of identical machines. Some
typical environments include: Internet server farms, high performance
clusters, computer labs, and corporate desktop environments where all
workstations have the same basic hardware configuration.

Changes: Functionality across systems with different-sized disks, improved
support for Debian and ext3, support for Red Hat 7 and LABEL= syntax in
/etc/fstab, inclusion of a kit for modifying initrd.gz, many bugfixes, and
when using DHCP, the imageserver can be a different machine from the DHCP
server.

[069] - ViperDB 0.9.8 (Default)
  by Peter Surda (http://freshmeat.net/users/shurdeek/)
  Wednesday, March 14th 2001 15:56

ViperDB is a file checker. It is meant to be run from cron on a regular
basis in order to monitor strange activity on a system. It supports
checking of size, mtime, privileges, UID/GID, added/deleted files, and (as
of 0.9.3) MD5 checksums. Data isn't stored in a single archive as in
tripwire, but is split among all the monitored directories. This ViperDB is
in fact a fork of the original, as the original authors seem unreachable.

Changes: Config file option parsing and process locking were broken.
Upgradingg is recommended.
