[001] - Arb-Scan 0.4.6 (stable)
  by Maik Pfeil (http://freshmeat.net/users/arbon/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 18:09

Arb-Scan is a remote banner scanner written in bash and Perl. It supports
11 different services banner checks (daytime, ftpd, sshd, smtpd, domain,
finger, httpd, pop2, pop3, imapd, and nntp). It features IP file reading,
logging, random IP scanning, ftp anonymous login checking, and VRFY/EXPN
smtp checking.

Changes: Fixes for many bugs and added some new features (VRFY/EXPN smtp
check, anonymous FTP login check, and an NNTP banner check).

[002] - Aria 0.8.1 (Default)
  by SlotGazer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slotgazer/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 08:02

Aria is a download tool similar to Reget or GetRight. It downloads files
from the Internet via HTTP or FTP. The transfer can be paused, resumed,
queued, and saved. It has a friendly GTK-based GUI and useful log consoles.
It supports URL list importing, CRC checking, an HTTP proxy server, HTTP
recursive downloads with various useful options, and cut-and-pasting. It
also can handle annoying CGI fake download pages.

Changes: This release mainly focuses on bugfixes for a numeric download
bug, a double clicking bug in the download list, and a time related (cookie
expire time and local file modification time) bug.

[003] - Astaro Security Linux 1.797 (Default)
  by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 06:15

Astaro Security Linux is a new firewall solution. It does stateful
inspection, packet filtering, content filtering, virus scanning, VPN with
IPSec, and much more. With its Web-based management tool and the ability to
pull updates over the Internet, it is pretty easy to manage. It is based on
a special hardened Linux 2.4 distribution where most daemons are running in
change-roots and are protected by kernel capabilities.

Changes: This release fixes a wrong nexthop calculation for VPN.

  by Sean Middleditch (http://freshmeat.net/users/elanthis/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 04:41

AweMUD is a MUD server for use with fantasy-settings. Features include
skill-based character development, fully dynamic objects and characters,
and custom worlds. The engine will eventually have completely interactive
rooms (items can be placed under benches, doors can be destroyed), complex
magick, and interactive NPCs.

Changes: This release includes a new NPC AI, improvements to the
extensions, and numerous minor bugfixes and feature additions.

  by Murray Cumming (http://freshmeat.net/users/murrayc/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 09:34

Bakery is a C++ Framework for creating GNOME applications using Gnome-- and
Gtk--. It provides a Document/View architecture, but it doesn't force you
to use the whole architecture. It makes it easy to start developing GNOME
applications by inheriting and overriding.

Changes: This release adds document extensions, Bakery::FileSelection with
a run() method, File|Open which opens a doc in a new instance if the
document is in use, updated dialog memory management for Gnome, and several
other minor functionality and implementation fixes.

[009] - BRL 2.1.23 (Default)
  by brlewis (http://freshmeat.net/users/brlewis/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 12:03

BRL is a language designed for server-side WWW-based applications,
particularly database applications. It is based on Scheme, which makes the
syntax extremely simple yet powerful. This implementation is a Java Servlet
using the Kawa Scheme compiler.

Changes: In the course of making code more readable, performance was
accidentally improved by about 20%. New HTTP-related functions have been
added, and previously undocumented functions have been documented. The
manual has also been made more newbie-friendly with simpler examples.

  Monday, March 12th 2001 04:40

cal_up.sh watches the Caldera FTP site for new updates to whatever version
of OpenLinux you are running and automagically downloads them. It then
optionally installs the updates, optionally reboots, and mails you with a
complete log of its actions.

Changes: This release includes absolute paths to a couple of commands that
managed to sneak into the script, and changes to the pid filename to allow
for multiple instances of the script to run if they are for different
releases of OpenLinux.

[013] - class.gzip_encode.php 0.62 (Default)
  by Leknor (http://freshmeat.net/users/leknor/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 19:28

class.gzip_encode.php is a class that will gzip content from a PHP script
before it is sent to the Web browser if the browser supports gzip
Content-Encoding. This can significantly decrease load time for pages over
a slow connection. On some operating systems it can scale the compression
level as the system load average increases.

Changes: File type detection is more like how the "file" command detects
file types and will prevent the output from being compressed more than
once.

  Monday, March 12th 2001 13:38

Class::Date provides a date datatype for Perl. You can create new
Class::Date objects with a constructor from different scalar formats, array
refs, and hash refs, and then you can easily manipulate it by the builtin
"+" and "-" operators (e.g., $date=date([2001,03,15])+'3Y 1s'). Relative
date types also available.

Directory administrator is an application, written in C with the GTK+
toolkit, designed with the only focus of being a tool to easily manage UNIX
users and groups in an LDAP directory, corporate information, access
controls, and LDAP mail routing.

Changes: When removing, this release doesn't kill and reload the list, just
removes the selected icon. Organizational attributes can now be used.

  Monday, March 12th 2001 00:00

Doxygen is a cross-platform, JavaDoc-like documentation system for C++,
Java, C, and IDL. Doxygen can be used to generate an on-line class browser
(in HTML) and/or an off-line reference manual (in LaTeX or RTF) from a set
of source files. Doxygen can also be configured to extract the
code-structure from undocumented source files. This can be very useful to
quickly find your way in large source distributions.

[019] - Easysoft dbExpress ODBC Gateway 0.0.11 (Development)
  by Nick Gorham (http://freshmeat.net/users/lurcher/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 16:07

The Easysoft dbExpress ODBC Gateway provides an interface between Kylix and
any ODBC 3 compliant driver or driver manager. When used in combination
with a bridge driver, such as the Easysoft ODBC-ODBC Bridge, the gateway
can provide access to MS SQL Server, MS Access, or any other database which
has a Windows ODBC driver.

Changes: The driver is now up to date with the released Kylix. New features
include support for tracing callback and support for fldDATETIME parameters
types. The possibility for BCD parameters to get truncated was eliminated.
SQL_REAL is now mapped to fldFLOAT instead of fldBCD. TIMESTAMPs are now
reported as fldDATETIME instead of fldTIMESTAMP. A change for NULLs was
added. Empty strings in metadata calls are now converted into SQL_NULLs in
ODBC calls. An extra column on output of ProcedureParams was added.

  Monday, March 12th 2001 04:45

Freedups searches for identical files in the directories you specify and
hard-links them together, freeing up drive space without losing
performance.

Changes: This release now allows for command line parameters, and temporary
setting of options via environment variables. The documentation has also
been updated to include a list of apps and more verbose answers to
questions, the GPL text block has been added, and some other minor fixes
and clean-ups aswell.

command-line interface and makes it easier for users to use these programs.
It is made in the style of Win31's PGP Shells that were GUI-based wrappers
around PGP2's command line interface.

Changes: The project compiles under KDE 2.1 with KDevelop 1.4, and
regression testing is beginning to verify that all functions work as they
did with KDE 1.x. The license was also changed to LGPL 2.0.

[028] - Ghemical 0.41 (Default)
  by TH (http://freshmeat.net/users/thassine/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 06:32

Ghemical is a molecular modelling software package with a GUI (one for the
GLUT library and another for GNOME) and some nice 3D-visualization tools.
It can do all-atoms molecular mechanics and dynamics, athough the current
parameter set is still experimental. It can also be used as a graphical
front-end for the quantum chemistry program MPQC. Ghemical is written in
C++, and hopefully offers a good framework for a generic freeware molecular
modelling tool.

Changes: This release includes several minor bugfixes and enhancements, a
user's manual, and support for version 1.2.5 of the MPQC program.

[029] - Gnofract 4D 1.5 (Default)
  by Edwin Young (http://freshmeat.net/users/edwiny/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 00:52

Gnofract 4D is a Gnome-based program to draw fractals. What sets it apart
from other fractal programs (and makes it "4D") is the way that it treats
the Mandelbrot and Julia sets as different views of the same
four-dimensional fractal object.

Changes: This version is dramatically faster than the previous release, and
supports multi-threaded calculations to take advantage of SMP computers. It
also has many small user-interface improvements.

[030] - GNOME Workstation Command Center 0.9.3 (Default)
  by Brent Ely (http://freshmeat.net/users/sfbrent/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 00:48

GWCC allows users to execute network utilities (ping, nslookup,
traceroute), workstation commands (netstat, df, lpr), and do cool things
like process grep from a single tabbed window. Command flags are highly
configurable, results windows are savable and printable, and there is a
System Stats tab showing you process info, current users, Apache server
status, Samba status, and more.

Changes: Changes to the Users textbox to Clist widget on System Stats tab,
a fix for a bug in Network Utils tab that caused user-entered commands to
be garbled, and other small fixes.

[032] - GNU Visual Debugger 1.1.0 (Default)
  by Arnaud Charlet (http://freshmeat.net/users/charlet/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 16:24

GVD is a general purpose graphical debugger frontend. It features advanced
data display and visualization capabilities, and allows the debugging of
multi-process/multi-threaded applications in the same debugging session.
GVD works with native and cross-debuggers and can handle several languages
in the same debugging session and the same application. C and Ada are
supported. GVD can run on a host different from the machine where the
debugger is running and provides friendly support for cross-debuggers
(VxWorks, Lynx, etc.). For instance, you can use Linux or Windows to debug
an application running on a Power PC board with a debugger running on a Sun
workstation.

Changes: Binaries are now available for most Uni*es and Windows, as well as
complete documentation. The new option --pargs sets program arguments on
the command line, and the new option --dargs specifies additional debugger
arguments. The startup time for big programs has significantly improved.
Support for preferences was added, with many user-configurable options.
Scrolling the assembly window outside of displayed range is now possible.
The Data window can now be separated from the main window. The Memory View
now handles editing in non-Hex mode, and it is also can display data in
ASCII and another format at the same time. The window settings are now
remembered from one session to another. The new command line option
--editor-window provides much better integration with external editors. A
graphical list of processes is now displayed when attaching to a process.
The option to view memory at the address of a given variable is now
available in the data and source editor contextual menus, and the option to
print a dereferenced variable was added to the source editor contextual
menu. Many bug fixes were made.

[036] - Helpdesk::Mail 0.5 (Default)
  by lukas (http://freshmeat.net/users/lertl/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 18:10

The Helpdesk::Mail System is a Perl application intended to assist
Helpdesks and Support Centers in organizing their email communication with
their customers. Especially if there is one email address and several
people who reply to those emails and answer questions, Helpdesk::Mail can
come in handy. It is not just another webmail application; one can assign a
"user-id" for an e-mail (e.g. an account number) to track how often one
user asks for help. It also has an additional "Knowledge Base" feature: if
your customers ask the same questions over and over again, you can save the
answer in the Knowledge Base and prefill a reply with this answer by simply
typing in some keywords and click on a link. There's also a public
interface to the Knowledge Base.

[037] - Image::Size 2.92 (Default)
  by Randy J. Ray (http://freshmeat.net/users/rjray/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 18:14

The Image::Size module for Perl provides a clean interface for fetching
image dimensions (and type, when unknown) from graphics files in a wide
variety of common formats. It is a pure Perl extension (no C or XS linking
required) that has been tested on a variety of UNIX, Linux and BSD systems,
as well as MacPerl and Windows ports of Perl. It was designed around and
tuned for use in CGI application development, but is useful in other areas
as well.

Changes: A fix for a bug that was leaking file-descriptors; if used in
persistent environments (such as Apache + mod_perl), this could eventually
eat up all available fd's.

[046] - Linux 2.4.2-ac18 (2.4-ac)
  by Patrick Lenz (http://freshmeat.net/users/scoop/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 11:44

Linux is a clone of the Unix kernel, written from scratch by Linus Torvalds
with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the Net. It aims
towards POSIX and Single UNIX Specification compliance. It has all the
features you would expect in a modern fully-fledged Unix kernel, including
true multitasking, virtual memory, shared libraries, demand loading, shared
copy-on-write executables, proper memory management, and TCP/IP networking.

Changes: Debian has another location for db3. A duplicated flush_tlb_page

LUCI, written in Python, is a Universal Configuration Interface. It
provides a GTK+ interface to edit any configuration file. You just have to
write a little text file to describe the configuration file you want to

[051] - MID 1.10 (Default)
  by WesMo (http://freshmeat.net/users/wesmo/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 19:33

The Machine Inventory Database (MID) is a Perl-based CGI interface to
manage the machines on and off your network. On top of acting as a
front-end to a simple MySQL inventory database, it handles IP assignment
and acts as a front-end to the configuration files for BIND, YP, and/or
DHCPD to reduce the chance for typos in the configuration files which tend
to bring down service.

Changes: This release breaks apart and rebuilds the administrative
interface to include user/password management (including the building of
all the pages for the interface and all of the code to handle the password
management), updates the admin config to allow for addition and deletion of
OSes in the environment, moves the DNS serial number calculation out of the
actual file and into the database (where it belongs), fixes some minor
typos, realigns some database fields into a new table, updates the online
docs, and includes some rudimentary DNS, YP, and DHCPd config file headers
in the distribution.

[052] - mmtcpfwd 0.7 delta (Default)
  by Matthew Mondor (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmondor/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 00:35

mmtcpfwd is a secure port forwarder superserver for Linux firewalls. It
starts a standalone, non-root daemon per service, and supports transparent
proxying and proxying of FTP passive connections. It also includes embedded
mmidentd. It has the ability to limit connections on how many IPs and
connections per IP, to auto-DENY IPs upon an exceeded connection threshold,
and to fake services a la portsentry. It uses a single configuration file
and uses pthreads for efficiency.

Changes: A fix for a bug which caused the RootServer process (the deny
handler) to die when undenying an address, which resulted from one of 0.7b
speed optimizations. This did not prevent the forwarder to run properly but
affected the auto-DENY system. The RootServer code and undeny handler were
rewritten. Some security enhancements were also made; it will only accept
to be started by the superuser, and better sanity checking on the data sent
to the RootServer via the internal pipe.

[064] - Net::Server 0.51 (Devel)
  by Paul T Seamons (http://freshmeat.net/users/rhandom/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 08:02

Net::Server is an extensible class-oriented Internet server written in
Perl. The base Net::Server class contains the bulk of the functionality but
can easily be extended with subclasses, process hooks, or overridden
methods. The subclasses included with the distribution include single
process, forking server, pre-forking server, and inetd server. All
subclasses (except for inetd) allow for binding to and accepting on
multiple ports. It has the ability to read a conf file, take command line
arguments, chroot to a different directory, become another user, become
another group, maintain a pid file, and specify log file. Subclasses
contain extended functionality such as min_servers, max_servers, and
spare_servers. Written to be light but powerful, Net::Server is intended to
be the back end layer of FTP, SMTP, HTTP, ad serving, POP3, and other
services, with protocol-specific functions layered on top.

Changes: This release includes a pipe type to the serialize option which
allows for child serialization to function using pipes in the PreFork
server.

[082] - pysync 1.7 (Default)
  by abo (http://freshmeat.net/users/abo/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 04:43

Pysync is a demonstration implementation of the rsync algorithm in Python.
It is not fast and is not optimized, however it does work and is very
simple. The primary aim is to provide a simple implementation of the
algorithm for reference and experimentation, thus code clarity has been
given a higher priority than performance. It includes a combination of
ideas taken from libhsync, xdelta, and rsync.

Changes: This release includes support for xdelta style deltas (optimized
deltas calculated directly from the sourcefile, not a signature),

[085] - Rolodap 0.70 (Default)
  by wintermte (http://freshmeat.net/users/wintermte/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 19:40

Rolodap is a multiuser contacts managment system that uses an LDAP server
to store all user, group, and contact information. It was developed using
PHP, HTML, and Javascript so that it can be accessed from any OS with a
Javascript capable HTML browser. The Web-based interface provides an
easy-to-use front end to the contacts directory, which allows users to
search and organize their contacts into user-created Address Books. A
single contact can appear in any number of Address Books, yet each contact
only exists in the database one time. This means data for each contact only
needs to be updated one time in order to affect change in all user's
Address Books.

Changes: There is now an admin section if you login as an admin user.
Admins have extra rights to do things like truly delete contacts and books
(versus just marking them for deletion). A simple ldif file can now be
imported into rolodap quickly. This works well when bringing in a large
number of contacts from other sources (such as the Netscape address book).
These simple ldif files don't need any organizational information in the
records (no need for an ou or dn); during the importation process, these
organizational attributes will be added automatically (and if you do put
them in, they are just ignored anyway). The user prefs section now saves
any changes made by a user in the user's LDAP record, so they aren't lost
between rolodap sessions. There are now some installation instructions and
an extras directory which contains a sample ldif file that can be modified
for your company and imported to get you started using rolodap right away.
There is also a Perl script that can be used to convert a csv file that was
created by the Win32 Netscape address book export utility to an ldif that
is usable by rolodap.

[089] - Shared Mailbox 0.1 (Alpha)
  by Richard Kay (http://freshmeat.net/users/copsewood/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 17:06

Shared Mailbox processes messages sent to multiple
prefixes@a.particular.domain handled through a single mailbox. This is
useful for those running mailing lists or low budget mail facilities for
multiple users and aliases through a single domain but where a static IP
address is not available and POP3/IMAP or similar mailbox availability is
limited. It is installed in a pseudo-user's .forward or .qmail file and
provides an alternative to fetchmail for the local distribution function.
Unlike fetchmail, externally aliased addresses (e.g., for remote mailing
list owner or approval addresses) are handled. Mail loop detection is
provided through a header unique to each installation and by counting
Received: headers.

  Monday, March 12th 2001 13:53

SILC (Secure Internet Live Conferencing) is a protocol which provides
secure conferencing services in the Internet over insecure channels. SILC
superficially resembles IRC, although they are very different internally.
The purpose of SILC is to provide secure conferencing services. Strong
cryptographic methods are used to secure all traffic.

Changes: Fixes for some bugs from the previous major release, and fixes for
WHOIS and IDENTIFY command reply handling in the Client Library.

[091] - skel 0.1 (Release)
by exa aka Eray Ozkural (http://freshmeat.net/users/exa/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 16:45

The skel package contains various skeleton projects for C/C++. Their common
feature is that they try to be generic, consistent, minimal, and portable
using only standard libraries. They are intended to be good starting
points to write pure C/C++ programs under GNU/Linux systems. Thus, they
assume a recent version of GNU tool chain.

Changes: An eval function was introduced in the makefiles. The cxx
skeleton is finally giving some taste of how an automake-like build will
look like.

[092] - SMS Server Tools 1.2 (Default)
  by Stefan Frings (http://freshmeat.net/users/sfrings/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 13:55

The SMS Server Tools were made to send and receive SMS from one or many GSM
modems. They include two simple commandline-driven tools, a daemon, and
sample scripts to build an SMS email gateway. The daemon waits for files
in an outgoing spool directory and sends them. It puts all received SMS in
an incoming spool directory, and can call any external program for incoming
or outgoing notification.

Changes: Support for binary SMS (useful to send operator logos, ring tones,
etc.), and removal of support for YAPS.

[094] - STklos 0.51 (Default)
  by Erick Gallesio (http://freshmeat.net/users/erickgallesio/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 16:37

STklos is a free Scheme System conforming to R5RS. The implementation is
based on an ad-hoc Virtual Machine. It can also be compiled as a library,
so that one can easily embed it in an application. Its features include an
efficient and powerful object system based on CLOS, a simple-to-use module
system, implementation of the full tower of numbers defined in R5RS, and
easy connection to the GTK+ toolkit. STklos is the successor of STk, a
Scheme interpreter tightly connected to the Tk toolkit.

Changes: R5RS hygienic macros were added. Compatibility with Aubrey
Jaffer's SLIB was added. SRFI-0 and SRFI-1 were added. A new port to
Alpha/Linux was created. New primitives were added and bug corrections were
made.

[095] - Tachyon Multiprocessor Ray Tracer 0.93.2 (Default)
  by John Stone (http://freshmeat.net/users/tachyon/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 05:58

Tachyon is a multiprocessor ray tracing system which can be used as a
standalone program, or as a library within other programs. It is written in
C, uses POSIX Threads and/or MPI for using multiple processors, and can
also run on uniprocessor machines. It supports almost any Unix-like system,
Windows, and BeOS, as well as several embedded systems and high end
supercomputers. Tachyon is easy to port to new machines, and is very fast,
using a number of ray tracing acceleration schemes to achieve good
performance on very complex scenes. (It easily handles scenes containing
more than 100,000 objects, and does so without taking a long time to
render)

Changes: This release includes several improvements to the scene parser
improving its error reporting information significantly. The implementation
of include files has been improved, some previously hard coded limits on
the number of textures in the parser have been removed, and the parser code
has been significantly reorganized to allow for more advanced capabilities
as well as improved modularity. This version also now supports PNG files
through the use of libpng when enabled in Make-config, some performance
improvements to the shading code, improved source commenting, new code to
implement a simple orthographic camera (although it is not exposed to the
scene description language yet), improvements to the OpenGL windowing code,
and updated Microsoft Windows project files.

[099] - Tsinvest 1.2 (Default)
  by John Conover (http://freshmeat.net/users/conover/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 05:21

Tsinvest computes the optimal gains of multiple equity investments. The
program decides which of all available equities to invest in at any single
time, by calculating the instantaneous Shannon probability of all equities,
and using statistical estimation techniques to estimate the accuracy of the
calculated Shannon probability. Entropic techniques are used throughout. A
tutorial is presented in the man(1) pages and a companion equity market
simulation program is included. Additionally, there is a fragment of the US
exchange daily closes for demonstration.

Changes: This release includes the addition of the -a command line option,
which allows you to dynamically determine the optimal asset allocation in
an equity portfolio.

[103] - vtxboerse 0.32 (Default)
  by Andre Giere (http://freshmeat.net/users/agiere/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 12:22

Vtxboerse is a tool to capture the rates of stocks from teletext in a MySQL
database. Vtxboerse reads the stocks automatically at intervals. They can
then be analyzed by the GUI in a chart with average lines, and some other
functions. A multiuser market game that uses the fetched quotations is
included. The market game lets you realistically simulate buying and
selling stocks.

Changes: Password handling was changed, and null-passwords are supported.
Some colors were changed. Some bugs were fixed. The stock-handle in the
searchstocks-widget was changed. Routines were added to drain bad values
made by bad TV-signal.

[104] - WabaJump 0.3 (Default)
  by kedge (http://freshmeat.net/users/kedge/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 04:44

WabaJump is an API which allows applications written for Waba to be
compiled to a PalmOS executable via Jump. This removes the application's
dependence on the WabaVM, so that only one file needs to be installed on
the user's device, instead of four. This also speeds up the application,
because it's now a native application instead of an interpreted
application.

Changes: Images and Timers are now fully functional, and several UI
improvements including fixed selected text on Edit controls have been
implemented.

XCmail is a MIME and POP3 capable mailtool for X11 using the Xclasses X11
layout library. Its main purpose is to read and write mail, allowing any
kind of data to be attached. It can handle MIME types, has helpers to show
different types, and can encode and decode binary data into ASCII to allow
it to be transported as mail over the Internet. It has many built-in
functions such as 2 vCards, POP3, SMTP, SMTP after POP3, addressbook,
encoders, filters, a special spam filter, spell checker, and xface. It also
uses external programs to enhance its feature set. XCmail can be extended
through a plugin interface.

  Monday, March 12th 2001 09:24

XGlobe is a toy that displays a globe on your X desktop. Unlike xearth it
uses a texture which is mapped on the globe and still works when switching
virtual desktops in KDE.

Changes: This release uses autoconf (but not yet automake) using aclocal.m4
from kdetoys, changes things to avoid loading the markers list twice
(basically changing marker_list in EarthApplication to a pointer and
testing it), cleans the code a bit to avoid char * cast by using
QString::latin1() (this has the side effect to have Label work again under
QT2.2; it should re-cast to work back in QT1.x), modifies marker.xpm to
avoid warnings (const now), and corrects a bug in renderer.cpp:1447 which
prevented markers from being painted due to the alpha channel QT2[.2].

[113] - xmlBlaster 0.79b (Default)
  by Marcel (http://freshmeat.net/users/marcelruff/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 00:03

XmlBlaster is XML based MOM (Message oriented Middleware) with a lot of
features. It is a publish/subscribe and point-to-point MOM server which
exchanges XML-encoded messages. Communication with the server is based on
CORBA (using JacORB), RMI or XML-RPC with a persistent HTTP plugin.
Subscribers can use XPath expressions to filter the messages they wish to
receive. C/C++, Java, and Perl client demos are included in the xmlBlaster
test suite, and Tcl and Python demo clients are scheduled. XmlBlaster also
provides a browser callback framework, allowing browsers (Netscape,
Mozilla, MSIE) to receive instant callbacks over a persistent http
connection.

Changes: A new J2EE connector resource adapter for xmlBlaster which makes
publishing through xmlBlaster an easy task in any J2EE environment, a
Python hello world demo, and many bugfixes and enhancements.

xmms-crossfade is an output plugin for XMMS. Its main feature is automatic
crossfading. It also removes the gaps between tracks, to play whole MP3
albums without any audible interruption. xmms-crossfade supports OSS via a
builtin driver, and any other platform by using existing output plugins.

Changes: This release adds fading in/out at the beginning/end of playback.
Optimizations for latency and quality have been included. It also fixes
some bugs, including a major one which caused inserting pauses to almost

[115] - Yet Another SQL*Plus Replacement 1.65 (Default)
  by Nathan Shafer (http://freshmeat.net/users/nshafer/)
  Monday, March 12th 2001 19:46

YASQL is an open Oracle command line interface written in Perl. YASQL
provides a much kinder alternative to SQL*Plus's user interface. It
features full ReadLine support, alternate output methods, query editing,
basic SQL scripting, and top row_num commands.

Changes: More robust restoring of the terminal, use of the 'stty' program
to dump the settings of the terminal on startup so that it can restore it
back to those settings (if it's not installed then YASQL will rely on
ReadLine to restore the terminal correctly), and the output of the query in
the error message is an option that is off by default.
