[001] - AllCommerce 1.2.2 (Default)
  by Lee (http://freshmeat.net/users/LeeHerron/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 19:13

AllCommerce is an e-commerce application based on Perl and SQL92 databases.
Targeted at Linux, MySQL, and Apache, it will run on a wide range of OS,
DBMS, and Webserver options. In addition to a shopping cart, it provides
tools for content, merchandise, statistics, vendor, order, and inventory.
Its modular design allows it to be used as a complete or partial solution.

Changes: A new Promotions Manager allows site admin to initiate and execute
special, time-sensitive promotions from a Web interface. It includes the
following promotion types: Discount (e.g., 20% off), Coupon, Free Shipping,
and Free item.

[002] - Apache Toolbox 1.5.13 (Default)
  by IO (http://freshmeat.net/users/bandrews/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 20:26

Apache Toolbox provides a means to easily compile Apache (IPv4/6) SSL,
PHP(v3/v4), MySQL, Jakarta, a large number of modules (54 3rd party modules
and 36 default Apache modules, static or as DSOs), and GD libraries with
PNG+JPEG+Freetype2+zlib support. It is fully customizable and menu-driven.
Everything is compiled from source, and wget is used to download any
missing modules. It can also check for RPMs that might cause problems and
create an RPM with your selections.

Changes: This release fixes a menu problem with mod_ssl, adds a bunch of
bugfixes, and updates mod_layout.

[003] - Astaro Security Linux 1.795 (Default)
  by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 19:10

Astaro Security Linux is a new firewall solution. It does stateful
inspection, packet filtering, content filtering, virus scanning, VPN with
IPSec, and much more. With its Web-based management tool and the ability to
pull updates over the Internet, it is pretty easy to manage. It is based on
a special hardened Linux 2.4 distribution where most daemons are running in
change-roots and are protected by kernel capabilities.

Changes: Source NAT (translates the source IP address from a private
(internal) IP address to a public (external) IP address and keeps a table
of these translations), logfile cleaning, software updates, fixes to known
bugs in the ICMP, VPN, and DNAT functionality, and updates to WebAdmin and
the online help.

[004] - bind 9.1.1rc4 (Bind9-Beta)
  by Gael MARTINEZ (http://freshmeat.net/users/gaelik/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 04:02

The Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) implements an Internet name server
for Unix operating systems. The BIND consists of a server (or `daemon')
called `named' and a resolver library. A name server is a network service
that enables clients to name resources or objects and share this
information with other objects in the network.

Changes: This is a release candidate for BIND 9.1.1. It contains fixes for
a number of bugs in BIND 9.1.1rc3 but no new features.

[006] - BlueJ 1.1.2 (Default)
  by bruceq (http://freshmeat.net/users/bruceq/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 04:07

BlueJ is an interactive Java development environment. It provides a unique
user interface that presents a graphical display of the application classes
and their relationships, and it lets users interactively create objects of
any class. Once objects have been created, users can interact with them
directly. This interaction mechanism allows for much greater testing and
experimentation than in conventional environments. BlueJ is suited for
teaching and learning OO and Java.

Changes: The editor is now modular and open source, integration of javadoc,
generation of UML class diagrams, an improved installation, and many
bugfixes.

[028] - Kannel 1.0.2 (Default)
  by Peter Grönholm (http://freshmeat.net/users/gronholp/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 15:32

Kannel is an Open Source WAP gateway that also works as an SMS gateway for
GSM networks. You can use it to provide content and services to mobile
phone users.

Changes: If a WML file uses single quotes (instead of double) around the
character set name and the HTTP result headers also specified a character
set, the WML compiler tried to use both. This has been fixed. The wapbox
will now suppress server-generated error pages if they are in a format
(such as HTML) that the client does not accept. When suppressing an HTTP
result body, the Content-Length header is also adjusted. The Kannel 1.0.2
WAP gateway has received the official WAP 1.1 certification by WAP Forum.

[029] - Linux 2.4.2-ac13 (2.4-ac)
  by Patrick Lenz (http://freshmeat.net/users/scoop/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 06:29

Linux is a clone of the Unix kernel, written from scratch by Linus Torvalds
with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the Net. It aims
towards POSIX and Single UNIX Specification compliance. It has all the
features you would expect in a modern fully-fledged Unix kernel, including
true multitasking, virtual memory, shared libraries, demand loading, shared
copy-on-write executables, proper memory management, and TCP/IP networking.

Changes: Cleaned up mad16 detection stuff, fixed epca unload, changed null
apic handling, aicasm now uses db3, fix aic7xxx cross compile, merged small
net driver fixups/config fixes, updated symbios drivers, Rusty has moved,
3c509/3c515 compile fixes, console locking updates, merged the serial.c
5.0.5 update, merge SiS framebuffer updates, updated ctrlfb, and added
epson 640U scanner to the USB scanner list.

[032] - Marbles 010307 (Default)
  by kulkanie (http://freshmeat.net/users/kulkanie/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 20:32

Marbles is very similiar to Atomix and was heavily inspired by it. The goal
is to create a more or less complex figure out of single marbles within a
time limit to reach the next level. Sounds easy? Well, there is a problem:
If a marble starts to move, it will not stop until it hits a wall or
marble. Teleports, arrows, and crumbling walls make it even more
interesting.

Changes: This release adds an "experimental" levelset with a move limit
instead of a time limit (please let the author know what you think of
this), minor bugfixes, a manual page, and fixes for all "-Wall" warnings.
The script "missing" is now executable. On a graphic, a marble now blinks.

[033] - MasqMail 0.1.10 (Default)
  by Oliver Kurth (http://freshmeat.net/users/okurth/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 07:47

MasqMail is a Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) designed for hosts that are not
permanently connected to the Internet. It handles outgoing messages
specially and delivers them only when explicitely told to do so in the
ip-up script. It can also retrieve mail via pop3. It has support for
multiple providers. When offline, it behaves like any MTA (like, for
example, sendmail, though it's not as powerful as sendmail).

Changes: This release compiles with glibc 2.2.2 and support of IP

[034] - mkrdns 2.0pre2 (Default)
  by Theo Van Dinter (http://freshmeat.net/users/felicity/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 03:45

mkrdns is a small Perl script which reads your named.boot or named.conf
file to find all domains/networks for which you are authoritative. It will
then read all of the forward zone files and generate the PTR records which
it inserts in the reverse zone maps. mkrdns will also do a few "lint"-like
checks and report oddities to you.

Changes: Zone statements were required to have whitespace between the
zone's closing quote and the brace (zone "foo.com"{), but this wasn't
mandated by bind. The regexp was modified to be simpler and to handle this
case. One of the debugging output lines was displayed even if nothing
happened at that point in the code.

[036] - MyBaD 0.6.3 (development)
  by Benjamin F. Keil (http://freshmeat.net/users/bkeil/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 15:31

MyBaD is an MP3 player which aims to be a rewrite of Mike Oliphant's
DigitalDJ. Details about songs are stored in a MySQL database, and
playlists are generated by SQL queries through a simple interface.
Compatability with the database format of Grip will be maintained. The
goals of the rewrite include a more flexible user interface, more modular
code, and a faster release cycle.

Changes: This release adds compile fixes for RH 7, optimization of artist-
and disc-list interaction (this should involve far fewer DB accesses now),
and the ability to reverse playlist ordering (i.e., fastest to slowest,
reverse album order, and most recently listened to).

[041] - Nmap 2.54BETA20 (Default)
  by eRationer (http://freshmeat.net/users/skapfham/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 18:52

Nmap is a utility for network exploration or security auditing. It supports
ping scanning (determine which hosts are up), many port scanning techniques
(determine what services the hosts are offering), and TCP/IP fingerprinting
(remote host operating system identification). Nmap also offers flexible
target and port specification, decoy scanning, determination of TCP
sequence predictability characteristics, sunRPC scanning, reverse-identd
scanning, and more. Console and X-Window versions are available.

Changes: A Darwin (Mac OS X) 1.2 portability patch, showing the actual
IPID, TCP ISN, and TCP timestamp values in XML format output rather than
just the cooked results, suppressing the IPID and TCP ISN predictability
report unless you use -v (which needs -O), and better detection and

of the project to mouse-select 'partial' rendering zones. The stamp image
is rendered directly in small format or extracted from last full render

[056] - Smarty PHP template engine 1.3.1 (Default)
  by Monte Ohrt (http://freshmeat.net/users/mohrt/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 15:37

Smarty is a template engine for PHP. Many other template engines for PHP
provide basic variable substitution and dynamic block functionality. Smarty
takes a step further to be a "smart" template engine, adding features such
as configuration files, template functions, and variable modifiers, and
making all of this functionality as easy as possible to use for both
programmers and template designers. Smarty also converts the templates into
PHP scripts, eliminating the need to parse the templates on every
invocation. This makes Smarty extremely scalable and managable for large
application needs.

Changes: This release adds and documents the first, last, index_prev, and
index_next section properties, splits the compiling code to separate class
for faster template execution time, fixes minor PHP warnings, adds and
documents the unregister_modifer and unregister_function API calls and the
fetch and math template functions, adds the ability to index looped
variables by section properties, and fixes a bug with PHP code executing
from literal tags.

[060] - TrinityOS 03/07/01 (Default)
  by David Ranch (http://freshmeat.net/users/dranch/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 06:30

TrinityOS is a step-by-step, example-driven HOWTO on building a very
functional Linux box with strong security in mind. TrinityOS is well known
for its strong IPCHAINS ruleset, Chrooted and Split DNS (v8-9), secured
Sendmail (8.x), performance tuning, and the automated TrinityOS-Security
implementation scripts.

Changes: Support for Bind 9.1.0, errata for the IPCHAINS ruleset, updates
to the root-hints DNS update script, and updates to the TrinityOS-security
scripts.

[061] - VNC Tight Encoder 1.1p8a (Windows version)
  by Const Kaplinsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/const/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 16:22

VNC Tight Encoder adds low-bandwidth optimizations and other improvements
to VNC, the great free remote desktop solution. Compression ratios achieved
by Tight Encoder are usually 5-75% higher than pure zlib compression.
Additionally, this encoder is often much faster than zlib at both the
server and client sides. Modified servers and viewers are fully compatible
with the original VNC software.

Changes: Debugging code has been removed from WinVNC; it tried to write a
lot of debugging garbage directly to d:\winvnc.log regardless of the
logging modes and the (non)existence of the d: drive. The source code has
finally been ported to the "free" Borland C++ 5.5 compiler. Proper
cooperation between threads in the "local cursor" code has been
implemented. The JPEG encoder now works correctly in 16bpp mode. Other
minor fixes and code cleanups have been added.

[063] - vsftpd 0.0.14 (Development)
  by Chris Evans (http://freshmeat.net/users/cevans/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 03:29

vsftpd is an FTP server written from the ground up to be free of security
holes, whilst providing safeguards so the impact is low if it isn't. It is
also very small and fast.

Changes: Fixes for nasty bugs whereby the data connection timeout went off
incorrectly, per-user chroot(), a banned anonymous email address list, PASV
range restriction, minor performance enhancements, a vsftpd.conf.5 man
page, and non-PAM local authentication.

[069] - Xdelta 2.0beta4 (Default)
  by Yann Dirson (http://freshmeat.net/users/ydirson/)
  Wednesday, March 7th 2001 07:52

Xdelta is a complete system for managing delta-compressed storage and
network transport. Using the Xdelta system, you can easily incorporate this
functionality into your application. The system offers improvements over
the use of RCS for back-end delta-compressed storage, common in version
control systems, and also provides primitive support for delta-compressed
transport in a manner similar to CVSup.
