[001] - Advanced TFTP 0.3 (Default)
  by Remi Lefebvre (http://freshmeat.net/users/remi1/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 23:48

atftp is a client/server implementation of the TFTP protocol that
implements RFCs 1350, 2090, 2347, 2348, and 2349. The server is
multi-threaded and the client presents a friendly interface using
libreadline. The current server implementation lacks multicast and ipv6
support.

Changes: Fixes for a format string bug, an uninitiliased variable, and
other minor fixes.

[002] - Averist 1.3.1.1 (Development)
  by Henrik Edlund (http://freshmeat.net/users/henrik/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 03:27

Averist is a module that adds an authentication layer to any CGI
application written in Perl. It supports initial authentication through CGI
(form), and it can use CGI (hidden form fields) or cookies for
reauthentication after a configurable timeout. It can also use an SQL
database or DBM file for storing session tickets for increased security.
The username and password check at the initial authentication can be done
via a DBM file, an LDAP directory, NIS, an SQL database, or a passwd-style
file. Averist is written in Perl for easy customization and expansion.

Changes: Fixes for some bugs in the vacuum function.

[003] - Balsa 1.1.2 (Development)
  by Pawel Salek (http://freshmeat.net/users/pawsa/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 16:56

Balsa is a Gnome e-mail client supporting POP3, IMAP, and local mail
delivery. It can be compiled with multi-threading support for faster
response, and can do nifty things like read your GnomeCard address book,
use LDAP, and render HTML mail.

Changes: Multi-threaded mailbox opening, and several IMAP bugfixes.

[004] - Benson Distributed Monitoring Tool 0.73 (Default)
  by btribit (http://freshmeat.net/users/btribit/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 23:43

The goal of the Benson Distributed Monitoring Tool project is to make a
distributed monitoring tool with the extensibility and flexibility of
mod_perl. The end goal is for system administrators to be able to script up
their own alerts and monitors into an extensible framework which hopefully
lets them get sleep at night. The communication layer uses CORBA
(specifically MICO), and the scripting language for the handlers is Perl.
It includes command line utilities for sending, listing, and acknowledging
traps, starting up the MICO system and benson objects. There is also a Perl
module interface to the benson CORBA object methods.

Changes: M90autoack has been added to the monitor directory to fix an abort
core dump bug in trap.cc., M10diskmon is configurable for usage reporting
by mount point, and Monitor.pm is documented (it respects different run
intervals for different monitors). A 2 second sleep was added to bensonctl
during CORBA boot strapping for bensond phase, M10diskmon was fixed so
that it actually reports information, and basic copyright notices were
added to most of the C++ source files. Monitor.pm only runs once a minute
for monitor testing, and INSTALL.quick instructions were added.

[009] - CvsGraph 1.1.0 (Default)
  by CvsGraph (http://freshmeat.net/users/CvsGraph/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 17:20

CvsGraph is a utility for generation of graphical representation of
revisions and branches from a CVS/RCS repository.

Changes: This is a major rewrite of a lot of code. CvsGraph reads the
repository file directly, which enables the proper evaluation of the tree
structure in the repository when revision numbers are not in order.
Branches are compacted horizontally so that a tree with many branches
doesn't take too much space. Branches with no revisions are shown.
Branches and revisions which are not in sequence or do not start at 1.1 are
properly plotted. Minor configure updates, implementation of imagemaps, an
ability to generate HTML that allows linking in the form of imagemaps,
changes to some configuration parameters, and an ability to add custom
expansion string from the command-line using -[0-9]. The executable has
become significantly larger because of table optimization in flex. You can
disable the optimization in configure with '--disable-speed'. This will
slow the execution, but reduce the size.

[010] - Diablo 3.0 (Default)
  by Gael MARTINEZ (http://freshmeat.net/users/gaelik/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 13:50

Diablo is a backbone news transit system, designed to replace INND on
backbone machines. The transit part of Diablo is well established and
should work flawlessly. Note that diablo now has a reader part, since
version 1.15.

Changes: This release features vastly improved stats gathering for both
reader and feeder, efficient (optional) NEWNEWS support in reader, group
restrictions per reader definition, new reader authentication types, a hook
for C filter for local posts, many bug fixes, and many other minor
enhancements. It also includes a completely rewritten spool system that
allocates articles to spool objects (directories/partitions) with a very
flexible expiry mechanism that allows different expire methods and times
based on newsgroups, article size, article type, etc. This also includes an
experimental compressed spool type. The filtering mechanisms were vastly
improved with 3 different filter types and full configuration of which
articles are sent to each type of filter with the same options as
newsfeeds.

Dillo is a fast, small Web browser that's completely written in C. It is a
graphical browser built upon GTK+ and renders a good subset of HTML (no
tables, no frames, no JavaScript, and no JVM).

Changes: This release includes a brand new widget scheme, image rendering
through GdkRGB, and more documentation.

[012] - Extended Attributes and ACLs for Linux 0.7.8 (Default)
  by Andreas Grünbacher (http://freshmeat.net/users/a.gruenbacher/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 14:05

Linux, in the tradition of UNIX-like operating systems, implements file
system permissions using a rather coarse scheme. While this is sufficient
for a surprisingly large set of applications, it is too inflexible for many
other scenarios. For that reason, all the major commercial UNIX operating
systems have extended this simple scheme in one way or the other. This is
an effort to implement POSIX-like Access Control Lists for Linux. Access
Control Lists are built on top of Extended Attributes, which can also be
used to associate other pieces of information with files such as Filesystem
Capabilities, or user data like mime type and search keywords.

Changes: This release contains support for the 2.4.2 kernel, and for
fileutils-4.0.41. Several bug fixes were made in the kernel patches and ACL
utilities.

[017] - gimp-print 4.1.5 (Default)
  by Robert Krawitz (http://freshmeat.net/users/rlk/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 19:25

gimp-print is the Print plug-in for the GIMP, which is now being maintained
as a separate package. Stable releases are integrated into the GIMP source.
The plugin has been restructured to permit the core dithering and rendering
engine to be split out and used as a driver, and a new GhostScript driver
has been written to support Epson Stylus printers using this core.

Changes: This release adds a fix for all PCL printers, a fix for quality
regression on Epson printers, improved Debian packaging, and other
improvements. There is a regression in the Canon BJC-8200 driver; users of
that printer may wish to stay at 4.1.4 for now.

[025] - Iridium Firewall 1.49a (Default)
  by Ryan Edwards (http://freshmeat.net/users/karynova/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 04:46

Iridium Firewall is a very strong ipchains-based firewall with support for
18+ network services (including DHCP, NFS, SMB, HTTP, FTP, TELNET, etc.),
masquerading, online gaming, multicasting, TOS flags, and specific port and
IP blocking. Protections include twelve different types of IP spoofing,
stuffed routing/masqerading, DoS, smurf attacks, control of the full range
of ICMP datagrams, and many more. The script is configured completely
through the use of a configuration file; no code hacking is required, but
it is written so that users that know what they are doing can easily
configure the script themselves. Iridium Firewall is heavily commented with
instructions and explanations on various topics.

Changes: This release includes fixes to the blocking of packets from
reserved IANA IP Addresses, new rules to cover missing block, removal and
consolidating of existing incorrect or redundant rules, and removal of
blocking on the outbound because it poses no security risk.

[029] - jedstate 0.5.2 (Default)
  by Klaus Alexander Seistrup (http://freshmeat.net/users/mutende/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 17:29

Jedstate is some sort of an extended mind for John E. Davis' splendid text
editor jed. Using jedstate together with jed's startup_hook() and
exit_hook() as glue, jed remembers the cursor position of all visited files
and will automagically jump to that position again when the files are
revisited. The database, which is gdbm based, is purgeable on a "time since
last view" criterion. Jedstate comes with two sample hooks for easy
integration with jed.

[044] - MiniGUI 1.0.00Pre3 (Default)
  by WEI Yongming (http://freshmeat.net/users/weiym/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 14:04

MiniGUI is a mini graphical user interface (GUI) support system for Linux
which provides an event-driven API for applications. By using MiniGUI, one
application can create multiple windows in multiple threads, and can draw
in these windows without interfering with each other. MiniGUI 0.3.xx has a
Graphics Abstract Layer (GAL) and an Input Abstract Layer (IAL), so MiniGUI
can run on many Graphics Engines, including SVGALib and LibGGI. By using
GAL and IAL, MiniGUI applications can run on X Windows aswell. This makes
debugging of applications and porting to other hardware easier. MiniGUI
provides native support for many image types including GIF, JPG, PCX,
LBM/PBM, and BMP, support for TrueType and Adobe Type1 fonts, and support
for GB2312 and BIG5 charsets.

Changes: The White Paper was updated and some articles about MiniGUI were
added. The README and some manpages were updated. SIGSTOP and SIGCONT are
now used to help virtual console switching. A function called
get_sock_fd2srv was added for clients to return the socket fd connected to
the server (MiniGUI-Lite). The default handling of message MSG_SIZECHANGED
was changed. The values of KS_* macros were changed, and some bugs about
the status of shift keys and mouse button were fixed. Moving child windows
when handling message MSG_PAINT of the parent is now possible. The
MiniGUIExt library was added (see ext/README for more information). EUCKR
and UJIS charsets support was merged. MiniGUI now reads window metrics and
element colors from MiniGUI.cfg. Flat style is now enabled for main
windows and some other controls. Transparent bitmap support was added.
The appearances of some window elements were changed.

menulevels as you want. It lets you use templates and subtemplates without
the need for a database. It is search engine-friendly and proxy-friendly,
which means that both search engines and proxies won't distinguish the
pages generated with phpCMS from static HTML pages. phpCMS is
cross-platform, so you can use it on Windows and Unix. Caching of parsed
pages and gzip compression speed up your server. The Web site for this
program is in German, but the documentation is in English.

Changes: This release fixes the visability of the password in the login
screen, the sitemap under PHP3, a template bug, and a bug in parsing of
normal HTML files.

Ratpoison is a simple window manager with no large library dependencies,
fancy graphics, window decorations, or flash. It is largely modelled after
GNU Screen, which has done wonders in virtual terminal market. All
interaction with the window manager is done through keystrokes. ratpoison
has a prefix map to minimize the key clobbering that cripples EMACS and
other quality pieces of software.

Changes: This release adds lots of fun stuff including runtime keybindings,
a screen-like command interface, better shell command execution, colormap
support, and improved keyboard input processing.

network services (including VTUN, DHCP, NFS, SMB, Napster, proxies, etc.),
masquerading, port forwarding, online games, and IP accounting. All
services are self-contained modules which can be prioritized easily in the
ipchains stack. Protections include spoofing, stuffed routing/masqerading,
DoS, smurf attacks, outgoing port scans, and many more. rcf also supports
multiple private and public interfaces with unique rules for each
interface/service. Masqed De-Militarized Zones (DMZs) are also supported.

Waterfall is a visualization plugin for XMMS. It's yet another spectrum
analyzer, but it presents the data better, which makes it more interesting
to watch. Most analyzers show a changing 2D bar graph of frequency vs.

[079] - webplay 0.95b (main)
  by david reuteler (http://freshmeat.net/users/reuteler/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 05:24

webplay creates, from a collection of mp3s (directory or MySQL database), a
Web-based jukebox with support for multiple independent streams. If lame is
available, it can change the bitrate of an mp3 in real time to a selectable
value. Each user controls their stream via a Web interface and can skip
back, forward, or to a specific track, increment or decrement the bitrate,
and check the current playlist, song, or bitrate. Playlists can be looped,
randomized, played locally on the webserver, edited, deleted, reused, or
renamed.

Changes: This release includes support for id3 v2 tags via MP3::Info, song
length information in the playlist window, filemasks as a way of extracting
track information from the path, a new method for importing mp3s that does
not require a defined directory hierarchy, and an id3 tag cache to speed up
retrieval.

[083] - xmmsinfo 0.3.3 (stable)
  by 32x (http://freshmeat.net/users/32x/)
  Sunday, March 4th 2001 18:51

xmmsinfo displays information about the song that is currently playing in
XMMS. It is able to read ID3 tag information from MP3 files, and it is able
to display artist, title, album, genre, total time, time elapsed, time
remaining, track number, year, comment, and play statisicts. It can also
output it all to a file, a sample perl script is included which gets the
info out of that file. The perl script can be used at your website to show
people what you're listening to right now. xmmsinfo can also run in silent
mode which only enables the file output.

Changes: This release fixes the ID3 tag genre function which sometimes
displayed the wrong genre, a segmentation fault which occured when there
was no genre present in the ID3 tag, and the output function (which now
updates itself better). The xchat plugin has been improved.
