[001] - Apache Toolbox 1.5.3 (Default)
  by IO (http://freshmeat.net/users/bandrews/)
Tuesday, February 20th 2001 02:21

Apache Toolbox provides a means to easily compile Apache SSL, PHP, MySQL,
Jakarta, a large number of modules (52, static or as DSOs), and gd
libraries with PNG support. It is fully customizable and menu-driven.
Everything is compiled from source, and wget is used to download any
missing modules. It can also check for RPMs that might cause problems and
create an RPM with your selections.

Changes: mod_python is now 100% automated, tarballs are automatically
checked for corruption, and configure/compile/install functions are checked
for errors.

[002] - Babylon Java Chat 1.2 (Default)
  by Andy McLaughlin (http://freshmeat.net/users/andymcl/)
Tuesday, February 20th 2001 10:31

Babylon Java Chat is a client and server combo that allows groups to chat
and draw over any TCP/IP connection. It features answering-machine style
messaging, console paging, regular and private (whisper mode) chatting, and
multi-colour graphics drawing abilities, including freehand, lines,
rectangles, ovals, and fonted text up to 120 pts.

Changes: The Babylon Java Chat client is now applet-enabled, so that it can
be easily embedded in WWW documents (as a pop-up window). The user name,
server address, and TCP port can be specified in the HTML applet tag, and
the client can connect without any additional user intervention.

period of inactivity (on any console), and have your own ignore list. It
can also associate events with sounds.

Changes: Some interface related changes have been made, two additional
sound events added, long messages fixed, "remember icq password" now is an
option, "anti-spam" feature added, and several segfault bugs were fixed.

[027] - integrit 1.06.06-stable (Default)
  by ecashin (http://freshmeat.net/users/ecashin/)
Tuesday, February 20th 2001 07:49

integrit is an alternative to file integrity verification programs like
tripwire and aide. It helps you determine whether an intruder has modified
a computer system. integrit's major advantages are a small memory footprint
and simplicity. It works by creating a database that is a snapshot of the
most essential parts of your computer system. You put the database
somewhere safe, and you can then use it to make sure that no one has made
any illicit modifications to the computer system. In the case of a break
in, you know exactly which files have been modified, added, or removed.

Changes: The byte-order problem was solved, allowing integrit to run
properly on big-endian machines. An RPM spec file was added. The report
includes more information and is more readable. More error checking and
code enhancements were added. Portability has been improved after
abandoning readdir_r.

[028] - ipfmeta 1.3 (Default)
  by cam (http://freshmeat.net/users/camield/)
Tuesday, February 20th 2001 02:25

ipfmeta is used to simplify the maintenance of an IPfilter ruleset. It does
this through the use of 'objects'. A matching object gets replaced by its
values at runtime. ipfmeta is specifically geared towards IPfilter, but
may also be used for other firewall packages (iptables). It is
line-oriented: if an object has multiple values, the line with the object
is duplicated and substituted for each value. It is also recursive: an
object may have another object as a value.

Changes: Initial release.

  by Konstantin L. Metlov (http://freshmeat.net/users/metlov/)
Tuesday, February 20th 2001 18:48

JEL (Java Expressions Library) is a library for evaluating a simple single
line expressions in Java. The key feature of JEL is the fact that it is a
compiler. The language of JEL expressions resembles the Java Language
expressions as close as possible. JEL supports all Java primitive types and
classes (even in form of constants), allows to call both static and virtual
methods of Java classes (with no additinal runtime costs and no wrappers),
and performs evaluation of constant subexpressions at a compile time.

Changes: Fixes for a number of bugs (some critical), improved compilation
performance, and reduced library size.

[031] - JFlex 1.3.1 (Default)
  by lsf (http://freshmeat.net/users/lsf/)
Tuesday, February 20th 2001 08:04

JFlex is a flex-like lexer generator for Java with emphasis on speed and
full Unicode support. It works as a standalone tool or together with the
LALR parser generators CUP and BYacc/J. JFlex has support for some not so
usual features like negation in regular expressions and nested input
streams. It can also read JLex specifications unchanged.

Changes: All bugs reported for 1.3 (bugs #32-#36) have been fixed. Two new
example scanners (binary scanner, small cup example) have been added. A new
manual section about encodings, platforms and Unicode was added, along with
a switch for skipping the minimization step (still alpha), and a switch
for generating graphviz dot files for graphical representation of generated
DFA (still alpha). The code has changed to the --style command line
switches (single - still recognized). New sourceforge mailing lists
jflex-announce and jflex-users are available.

[038] - makepp 1.10 (Default)
  by Gary Holt (http://freshmeat.net/users/holt/)
Tuesday, February 20th 2001 06:59

makepp is a syntax-compatible reimplementation of make designed for more
reliable builds and simpler makefiles. Additional features include
automatic scanning for include files (which can be extended for other
languages), much simpler and more reliable builds involving multiple
directories, transparent variant build/repository support, ability to use
cryptographic checksum excluding whitespace and comments instead of date,
rebuilding if the build commands change, logs build decisions for
debugging, wildcards match files which don't exist yet but can be built,
and extensibility by embedding Perl code in the makefile.

Changes: makepp's compatibility with GNU make has been significantly
improved. By default, makepp now uses a checksum ignoring whitespace and
comments when compiling C/C++ sources, so you can reindent or recomment
your code without causing recompilation.

mnoGoSearch (formerly known as UdmSearch) is a full-featured Web search
engine which you can use to build search engines over HTTP, FTP, and NTTP
servers, local files, and database big text fields. It supports Oracle,
MySQL, PostgreSQL, miniSQL, Solid, Virtuoso, InterBase, SAPDB, iODBC,
EasySoft ODBC, and unixODBC database backends. mnoGoSearch is also known to
work with MS SQL, SyBase, and Oracle through ODBC. C, CGI, PHP, and Perl
WEB search frontends are included in the package.

Changes: A new feature (crosswords) that allows you to assign words between
HTML a tags and also to a document this link leads to; it works in SQL
database mode and is not supported in built-in database and cache mode.
Phrase support in cache mode, a new $ndocs template variable (displays the
total number of documents in the database), a fix for a bug that absolute
path where not work in $if() search.htm include directive, and a fix for a
minor bug where fields category and tag were not filled in "INSERT INTO url

[061] - VNC Tight Encoder 1.1p9 (Unix version)
  by Const Kaplinsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/const/)
Tuesday, February 20th 2001 18:48

VNC Tight Encoder adds low-bandwidth optimizations and other improvements
to VNC, the great free remote desktop solution. Compression ratios achieved
by Tight Encoder are usually 5-75% higher than pure zlib compression.
Additionally, this encoder is often much faster than zlib at both the
server and client sides. Modified servers and viewers are fully compatible
with the original VNC software.

Changes: This version is a release candidate for 1.2 stable release and
includes a number of bandwidth optimizations, performance improvements,
bugfixes, and code clean-ups. The most important bugfix corrects a problem
in Xvnc Tight encoder: the code to split large rectangles behaved
incorrectly; this caused compression ratios to be worse than expected and
potentially could result Xvnc crashes.

wgrab is a Perl script for for retrieving Web documents from the command
line. It allows you to use date-based and/or number-based patterns to
specify the documents to download. Regular expressions can be used to
restrict which references are to be followed when performing recursive
retrieval.

Changes: An option was added to print the text (found via regexp) instead
of interpreting it as the URL to get and save. wgrab can now be used to
extract texts such as news headlines from foreign websites.

[063] - wizard like dialog 0.5.2 (Default)
  by Luis E Limon (http://freshmeat.net/users/luiselimon/)

Wdialog is a project to standarise xdialog and cdialog as one tool, adding
compatibility between them. It features a Wizard-like interface (a la
Windows), multi-edit dialogs (ability to use dialogs with more than one
input field at a time on the screen), and support for other nice features,
like automatic filtering for rpm --percent.

Changes: Now wdialog supports multiple rpms (rpm -i *.rpm) on the gauge
dialog. The inverted input and label on inputbox2 and inputbox3 have been
fixed. The dynamic reading of the label on the gauge was also fixed.
